1.) DEATH OF 100th BRITISH SOLDIER PROTEST

The death toll amongst British soldiers in Iraq is creeping towards 100. The 98th death was announced this week. Tens of thousands of Iraqis have died as a result of the invasion and occupation. To mark the British death toll reaching 100, and the continuing rise in Iraqi casualties, Bristol Stop The War Coalition is calling on its supporters to join the Peace Vigil on the Centre on the day they hear that number has been reached. It is planned that similar protests will take place in at least 100 towns and cities across the country.

Thursday 8th December, 7.30 pm Redland Friends Meeting House, Hampton Road.

3 Quaker Peace and Social Witness activists from the former Yugoslavia will visit Bristol in December as part of their nationwide tour. Quakers have been working in the Balkans through QPSW since 1991, beginning with assistance offered to local peace groups. In 1998 they opened an office in Sarajevo. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Quaker peace workers currently give support to conscientious objectors who apply to undertake civilian work as an alternative to military service. The QPSW activists publicise examples of the co-operation between members of warring groups, that went on in the Balkans even during wartime. They are also involved in projects aimed at establishing justice for victims of the war from all sides. The three coming to Bristol should have many stories to tell.
