The Beginning Of A Long Struggle In Notts - Sunday, February 21, 2010

On Sunday, February 21, 2010 fellow workers from Notts IWW joined trades unionists, community campaigners, service users and members of left Parties in a protest against the forthcoming Notts County Council cuts programme on Saturday 20th February. The small but angry protest in Mansfield Market place appeared to attract a crowd of between 1 and 2 hundred (not bad for a small market town) but speakers were keen to stress that this is just the start of a campaign of resistance and protest against the Tory Council's attacks on jobs and services. The idea of a County wide anti-cuts campaign was floated, to work alongside the Trades Council and unite the various concerned groups. A second protest took place outside the Council budget agreement meeting at County Hall, West Bridgford, Nottingham on Thursday 25th.

With "The Target Shoots First" [1999, 70min], Chris Wilcha documents his two-year stint working at music mail-order giant Columbia House's corporate headquarters. The result is a wry, personal examination of corporate culture. What does it feel like to go from alternative punk kid to corporate marketer?

West Midlands at the National March for Jobs, Birmingham

West Midlands IWW made an appearance at the Unite organised National March for Jobs in Birmingham city centre on May 16th. Reports from the weekend suggested the event was the usual TUC demo affair with plenty of hot air bellowed from the platform. Yet again, another expensive PR exercise for a corporate partnership union to act as though it has some muscle. Nevertheless, the IWW is proud to stand along side the thousands of working class people who made the effort to come out on Saturday.

Bullying at Work Survival Guide

Spotting Bullying

Bullies tend to surround themselves with supporters and spies while cultivating allies in senior management. They create rivalries in the workplace, bringing out the worst in people as they try to be ‘in’ with the bully. Being bullied makes people feel vulnerable, isolated and frustrated, and may lead to stress related illnesses. It affects relationships with family and friends.

Lets get organising!

When the fat cat city ‘bankers’, stock broker, financial whiz kids and economists: the people who really run the country, the people who determine government policy on the economy and public spending (or lack of) and taxation, the people who cream off obscene personal fortunes for them selves and their rich buddies, when they get into a crisis as is inevitable, all of a sudden we have a bottomless pit of tax payers money available to bail them out.
