Dawn of a New Day

by rayozzie

It’s been quite a week, and it’s been quite touching and overwhelming to have received such an outpouring of thoughts & emotion.  Thank you!

This week is the anniversary of a widely-publicized memo that I wrote, intending to frame the company’s opportunities in a manner that would catalyze action at a time of great industry change.

Now, five years later, things have changed sufficiently that we’ve reached what feels to be yet another industry inflection point.

An extraordinary new wave of opportunity lies before us; it’s the Dawn of a New Day.

I’m back.

by rayozzie

As my old Windows Live Spaces blog was in the process of being migrated to WordPress, it occurred to me that this is opportunity to share something with you that I happened to stumble across some weeks ago when straightening out a bit of the mess that’s my home office.

Inside a sealed packet I found a wonderful artifact from decades ago – a folder of collaterals from the Windows 1.0 launch event.  It was possibly handed to me at that time by Pam Edstrom, whose business card was enclosed.

I’ve scanned and posted this artifact at docs.com, which as of today has introduced, among other features, “browser-based PDF reading” support.  Congratulations to the team!

The document is great fun to read, and all-in-all it’s a tremendous reminder of how far we’ve come as an industry.

It’s also a reminder that we’re nearing a key milestone:  November 20, 2010, the 25th anniversary of Windows.

UPDATE:  Your response to my previous post was overwhelming; thanks.  While on the subject of 1985 nostalgia, I’ve uploaded one more final scan – some personal notes of mine from that era related to Windows.  I frequently traveled to Microsoft because I’d known Bill since my Software Arts days.  Our startup, Iris Associates, had also been doing very early work with Windows as one of its first ISV’s.
