This week THE ZRO HOUR salutes one of the illest groups in hip hop- THA ALKAHOLIKS. Tha Alkaholiks repped with party music full of crazy flows and banging production. After making an appearance on KING TEE's "Tha Triflin' Album", Tha Liks (J-Ro, Tash and E-Swift) released their first album "21 & Over" in 1993. As one of the first groups to sign with Loud Records, they were among the most influential groups to come out of that era as well as label mates with some of the finest in hip hop music including Big Pun, Wu-Tang and Mobb Deep. Their catalog consists of 5 albums with a couple of solo projects by Tash and J-Ro respectively. Tha Alkaholiks' emcee Tash calls in to talk about the formation of the Likwit Crew, studio sessions with Ol' Dirty Bastard and current tours. Tash also introduces me to rapper Black Silver and they speak on a new supergroup featuring Prince Po from Organized Konfusion! Enjoy the show! PLAYLIST DAAAM!

2010 is shaping up nicely for hip hop music. I have been hearing some great stuff lately and of course I had to share. The show begins with a Golden Era MASTA ACE and his "alter ego" BIZ MARKIE on "Me and The Biz" and rides through new joints by GUILTY SIMPSON, JOE BUDDEN & ROYCE DA 5'9", BLACK POET, MEMPHIS BLEEK, LUPE FIASCO, JOELL ORTIZ(!) and ETERNIA. CAMP LO gets love this week as well as CANNIBAL OX and KILLAH PRIEST. Super producer TY FYFFE calls in to speak about his RAW N UNCUT project and contest. THE ZRO HOUR is back with more heat for 2010! Black History Month is in effect and I set the show off with a classic from "The Teacha" KRS ONE- "You Must Learn". I also rock new joints by OBIE TRICE, DRAKE, BEKAY, WU-TANG and REFLECTION ETERNAL. This week's classics include selections from MOBB DEEP, XIBIT, DE LA SOUL and SLUM VILLAGE (R.I.P. Dilla and Baatin). This week's show also features a dope interview with the Bay Area's own, BASH BROS., as they make their first appearance on THE ZRO HOUR. I have been following members PISEAS and LEFTY (aka UZI SCOTT) for about 2 years and have been impressed with their hard edged flows and consistent output. The Bash Bros. have been dropping heat for several years and have released a flurry of mixtapes and street albums along with 3 official releases. We speak on their journey from hustling cassettes out of their cars to flooding the digital airwaves of the net in the present. Their newest mixtape, "INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS: The Features", is a collection of some of their best work with a diverse group of the finest on the independent hip hop scene.

THE ZRO HOUR is back with a new episode devoted to one of the most diverse artists in hip hop, MOS DEF. Mos Def is an amazingly gifted emcee, poet, actor and musician. Be it the broadway stage, silver screen, recording studio or smoky club, Mos has always challenged expectations with his craft. His lyrics are laced with wit, insight and an outspoken candor. Mos Def can be bohemian and hood at the same time. He has collaborated with many of his idols and peers and their reverence for his lyricism is duly noted. I have selected some of his best solo tracks as well as some of the hottest collabos and freestyles. One selection of note is his live performance of "Quiet Dog", a song featured on his current CD "THE ECSTATIC". The live set was taken from a recent "Late Night with David Letterman" where Mos played the kettle drums and rapped simultaneously, never losing the beat. Mos' film and television roles showcase his confident acting ability. He makes you forget that this is the same "true school" artist that rocks with Talib Kweli, De La Soul, Pharoahe Monch, The Roots, The Black Keys and many more. This show was a long time coming and I guarantee that you will rock this on "repeat"! PLAYLIST THE RAPE OVER

THE ZRO HOUR is back with a tribute to one of the most talented, pioneering and trendsetting emcees- GRAND PUBA. Grand Puba has long had legendary status with over 20 years in hip hop. From message driven raps centered around the philosophy and teachings of the 5% Nation of Gods and Earths, to party jams that stay on repeat, Grand Puba has long been a favorite of fans and peers alike. Puba has lengthy production credits dating back to his work with Positive K and has always produced music for his own projects. He has returned to recording and dropped a 4th solo album this year titled "Retro-Active". I had the pleasure of meeting and briefly interviewing him this summer at his listening party in NYC.
