The thing about poetry

I’m changing. It’s been a long process, but it makes me a different man. I’ve opened up to new experiences and find joy. Take poetry for example, as a youth I read only what was required of me. As a young adult I avoided verse. At nearly 50, I search old book stores for poetry collections and works by my favorite poets. I listen to a new poem every day during my drive to work. And, I’ve started writing my own verse.

I’ve branched out recently and opened up to spoken word poetry. It’s been a slow process. I found that I must confront my own prejudices before I could enjoy the performance. My prejudices are not racial – I’ve always thought of the spoken work set as posers (for lake of a better word). I’ve come to think differently. In fact, the word authentic comes to mind. I thank YouTube for that as I’ve watched hundreds of performances in a just a few months, a feat that was nearly impossible only a few years ago. Spoken word combines the poet’s rhythm, pacing, and verse into a medium I find appealing. When I hear a good performance, it moves me. I may not understand the poet’s point of view, like in the performance shown above, but I am still moved. I’ll think about his performance for days and when sated, I will hunt for more.

More charges for Pastor Dino Cardelli

It looks like former Calvary Chapel pastor Dino Cardelli is in for more trouble as a second sexual assault victim was indentified. He’s already been arrested for the habitual sexual abuse of a child in his care.

Prosecutors charged Dino Cardelli on Wednesday with three additional counts of committing lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14. The 49-year-old widower and foster parent already was charged with recurring sexual abuse on the girl who lived with him.

Cardelli was also rearrested on suspicion of violating a court order for allegedly contacting his first victim.

FCKH8 – you might be offended

Are you a hater? I doubt my readers will be offended. Except my mom – who might not want to watch this video. I wonder if they make a 4x tall version of that shirt? FCKH8.com

Christine O’Donnell, “My beliefs are irrelevant”

Christine O’Donnell dodged the a question about her beliefs in evolution by stating, “My beliefs are Irrelevant.” Then went on to say the local communities should be able to teach creationism as an  theory equal to evolution. This woman is dangerous. What she believes is the very essence of the problem. What she believes is crazy, therefore she is unfit for office.

Oh… and then she accused Chris Coons of being a Marxist.

Pastor Michael Campbell arrested

MichaelCampbell Pastor Michael Charles Campbell was arrested for molesting a teenage girl and photographing another in the nude.

The day police say he accosted the 15-year-old girl at a beachside motel in Daytona Beach in the spring of 2007, Campbell first picked up the girl at her residence. He was driving a hearse with a body in it, one he was supposed to deliver to Daytona Beach International Airport, a police report shows. Investigators said Campbell told the teenager's father that he needed the girl to help him do some work at the funeral home. The youngster's parents agreed and Campbell went to get the child.

If these allegations are true, Campbell is freak. His story reads like that of the worst sort of sexual predator. How does one acquire the title of pastor? No, the right question is, why does one acquire the title of pastor? In this case it was for access to kids. How sick is that?

Pedophile priest commits suicide

Convicted pedophile and former Roman Catholic priest Dale Crampton killed himself up in Canada on Tuesday.

For nine years, Father Dale Crampton served at Nepean's St. Maurice Church and was a school trustee in the late 1970's.

In 1986, he pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting seven altar boys, between the ages of 10 and 14, from 1973 to 1982.

He served eight months in prison after his suspended sentence was appealed in 1987.

I bet suicide looks real good when you realize that you devastated the lives of innocent children and dishonored your vows. He was old and alone, and guilty as hell. It was a just end to a corrupt life.

Pastor Steven Welty is Guilty

Pastor Steven Welty sat through two days of testimony and offered no defense. He was found guilty by Superior Court Judge Brook Taylor and was convicted on a bunch of charges.

Former Sequim pastor Steven Welty was found guilty of six counts of child rape, six counts of child molestation and six counts of incest…

And so it goes. Welty will die in prison.

Pastor Billy McCurdy sees a judge

Pastor Billy McCurdy pleaded not guilty to charges he molested two boys. The local press is reporting that one of his alleged victims changed his story.

Fifty-seven-year-old Billy McCurdy pled not guilty to 11 counts of sexual assault and gross lewdness. 8 News NOW has learned one of the alleged victims has changed his story. According to members of the church and McCurdy's attorney, that alleged victim made the whole story up simply out of revenge.

Revenge for what?

He’s continuing to minister

The words haunt me. Pastor Laneer Fisher of the Miracle Church of God in Christ is still preaching, even after being accused of molesting two boys. He was in court recently, and his lawyer had this to say.

"He’s holding up well. He has the support of the church, he has the support of his family and friends and he’s continuing to minister," said Defense Attorney Dirk Goodwald. "As our system states, he is innocent until proven guilty and we are prepared to defend that."

In the majority of churches across America, normal behavior would be to remove the pastor from his leadership role until the situation is resolved. In this case, Laneer is the only pastor of a church that he probably runs as his own business (I’m guessing here, but it looks right.). Of course Fisher would still be preaching – he’s got to pay the bills. But It is not right, and he should know better.

Pastor Monk pleads not guilty

DanielMonk How does a pastor admit to a crime and then plead not guilty? Pastor Daniel Monk, whose supporters are numerous and active, had his first day in court.

A former Millersport pastor pleads not guilty to two counts of sexual battery and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor Monday.

Monk stands accused of raping a girl who he was counseling during her parents divorce. Which, if true, make him sound like a real jerk.

Pastor Steven Wetly guilty

Pastor Steven Wetly, of the Glory House Church in Sequim, was found guilty of a ghastly array of child molestation charges. Wetly’s victim was between the ages of 4 and 10.

A former pastor of a Sequim (Skwim) church has been found guilty of 6 counts of child rape, six counts of child molestation and six counts of incest.

Rape, incest, and child molestation – that should be good for 50 years behind bars. At least I hope so.

Pastor Ben Johnson charged

Pastor Ben Johnson was charged with third-degree sexual assault for allegedly having sex with an underage girl who attended his church.

The Paragould Daily Press reported Thursday that 26-year-old Ben Johnson faces two counts of third-degree sexual assault. Police were notified after the victim's parents found a text message by their daughter in which she discussed sneaking out to see Johnson. The girl told police that she and Johnson twice had sex in the parsonage at the church. She said Johnson once gave her liquor.

Johnson worked at First United Methodist Church in Paragould.

Youth pastor Ronald Williams convicted

What does I do when insomnia strikes? I write posts about pedopastors.

Youth Pastor Ronald Williams pleased guilty to his crimes and is on his way to prison for 4 years. He was a typical internet freak.

The Clark County prosecutor said Williams was a youth minister at several area churches in Clark County. Officials said Williams was caught asking young girls to perform sexual acts through chat rooms online. In one case, Williams was intimidating a 15-year-old to perform sexual acts.

Williams lived on the internet and spent hours hunting his victims.

Based on the condition of his room, authorities believe Williams spent extended hours online, WLKY reported. There were beer bottles and numerous empty food containers — including about 20 2-liter plastic bottles filled with urine.

Good riddance.

Atheist James Doyle murdered in Iowa

16-year-old James Doyle was shot in the chest by 14-year-old Daniel Nadler on June 27, 2010. Doyle was an Atheist, Nadler a Christian. They were arguing about religion at the time of the murder. Apparently, Christian + hormonal teen + argument about religion + shotgun = murder, but does not equal a hate crime. The case has been under reported in the press. Plus, it was not an accident.

“The kids were up all night messing around with the gun and then there were some angry words and the victim was shot,” said Indianola Police Chief Steve Bonnett.

The killing was motivated, Bonnett said, but he declined to release specific details: “This wasn’t a case of kids playing with a gun and it accidentally went off.”

Nadler’s motivation should be examined. If he killed Doyle because he was an Atheist, this crime becomes a hate crime and should be handed differently. They way it is going Doyle will walk out of jail when he turns 18. How is that justice?

The family wants justice, but it looks like Daniel Nadler will not be held accountable.

The family of an Indianola teen who was shot to death last summer says the boy charged with the crime is getting off scott free. Fourteen year-old Daniel Nadler was originally charged with first degree murder for the shooting death of 16-year old James Doyle.

The charge has since been lowered to second degree murder, and a plea agreement could lower it even further. That possibility isn't sitting well with Doyle's family.

Read the comment thread – it will break your heart.

You can help. Tell the people who are in charge of the case what you think.

A boy was murdered because he was an Atheist. The Christian who murdered him will escape justice. The case is under reported in the press. Please help by contacting the people prosecuting the case:

You can also help by spreading the word.
