A graphic language for touch
Laws are codified social standards; but in the future, codified technical standards will be just as important as laws. As networks mature, and make the transition from ad hoc prestandard free-for-alls to fluid hot spots of innovation, and then into full-fledged systems with deeply embedded standards, standards increasingly ossify into something like laws.
We are really very much smarter on the inside than on the outside. Our firmware is very, very good.

Microchip-equipped sensors can be designed to monitor and measure not only motion, but also temperature, chemical contamination or biological changes. The applications for sensor-based computing, experts say, include buildings that manage their own energy use, bridges that sense motion and metal fatigue to tell engineers they need repairs, cars that track traffic patterns and report potholes, and fruit and vegetable shipments that tell grocers when they ripen and begin to spoil.
Eventually everything connects – people, ideas, objects. The quality of the connections is the key to quality.
