Here's Heat by sexisherri. Certainly made me hot!

I'm not sure why I like this one or what attracted me to this shot! Honest!

Maybe it's the lovely blueness of the pool or the colourful towel!!

Possibly the beads of sweat!

Actually, it's a very well composed shot and the colours are great. So too is the sprawled booby blonde.

The Clash - London Calling (2005 Japan Pressing)

The Clash - London Calling (2005 Japan Pressing)
Original LP release: 1979
This CD released: 2005-11-23
Label: Sony Japan / Epic / Catalog #: MHCP-889

EAC Secure Rip (test & copy) > FLAC
Mp3's are encoded using All2Lame @ preset V0 VBR

More details on this release here:

From Ink Blot magazine:

Here The Clash shake off punk's straightjacket and try on every musical zoot suit they take a fancy to; yet despite the manic ambition, it's all wound tight as a golf ball. Nineteen tracks, 66 minutes and it never blinks. Where many double albums sprawl and stumble, London Calling gets more focused with every track, until the ferocious hidden kiss-off "Train In Vain" sends you back to side one.

Jones and Strummer's lyrics (and Simonon's, on the fantastic skank "The Guns of Brixton") certainly do, not least because you can't make out what they're saying most of the time. But muddle through the cockney thug vocals and you'll find sharp characterizations, funny storytelling and righteous enthusiasm. Like most pop lyricists, their politics are really shallow sloganeering, but here they're so interesting. Andalucian revolutionaries, washed-up movie stars, Yardies and Welsh gangsters - London Calling invites them all to the apocalyptic rally.

Of course, the soundtrack is even more extraordinary. The title track is rock pounding on reggae's door, and "The Guns of Brixton" is what happens when it breaks down. "Rudie Can't Fail" and "Hateful" are joyous blasts of Bo Diddley gone ska, while "Clampdown" and "Death or Glory" are pure anthems on the flip side of "Jimmy Jazz" and its low-key year-zero rock.

London Calling does so much, so well, it's really required listening. If you don't like this album, you probably don't like rock 'n' roll.

Swans - Omniscience (1993)

The image “http://i26.tinypic.com/x5qzvb.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. This is a great live album, and somewhat hard to find.

Swans, a great, yet totally unheralded, band.

From Allmusic:

Beginning with the surging, sweeping crunch of "Mother's Milk," with some great Jarboe vocals over it all, Omniscience is a live album which benefits from the inclusion of some otherwise unrecorded or unreleased Swans tracks.

Taken from dates on the 1992 Love of Life tour, the album showcases a newly solidified touring lineup of Gira, Jarboe, Steele, returning veteran Kizys, and Vincent Signorelli, drummer on the two previous albums. The sound is clear and sharp, a distinct change from the sometimes muddy official bootlegs of years past.

Most of the familiar tracks are unsurprisingly from Love of Life, including "Her," "The Other Side of the World," and that album's title track in an extended take with a wholly new and incredibly dramatic instrumental coda. However, interesting choices like a version of Nick Drake's "Black Eyed Dog," originally done by Jarboe and Gira for the third Skin album, appear as well.

"Will Serve" is a fantastic number appearing only here, starting with a delicate guitar intro and swiftly turning into a cinematic, soaring piece — a lovely demonstration of Swans now at their newly inspiring best. "Amnesia" gets a particularly fierce take on the disc, with woodwind-like keyboards providing delicacy as the song rips along with further sonic touches like howling winds and breaking glass.

Ending with a fine version of "God Bless America" and the new, slow-grinding "Omnipotent," Omniscience is yet another excellent addition to Swans' body of work.

The Monkees - Live in Japan 1968

In the early days of The Monkees, there was some fuss over the fact that session musicians played on their first couple of albums.

Add to this the fact that they had been brought together for a TV series, any thought of artistic integrity or status was a definite no.

However they were fun, their fan base included The Beatles, and repeats of the TV series, still appear time and again on cable and satellite channels.

However by 1968 the TV series was over, the band completed a Far East tour, the last with Peter Tork as part of the band at that juncture, and their very alternative and psychedelic film 'Head' was released.

This is from the 'Far East' tour, and captures a band that at least live, probably still had something to prove.

You can also enjoy a couple of 'hot rocking' Japanese DJ's whose voice overs, bring a huge smile to my face, somehow I think this was pretty serious stuff for them.

Clearly from a radio broadcast of the show - FM thankfully - but remember this was 1968, so don't expect audio heaven, that said it is highly listenable, after the initial intros.

This boot is apparently called 'Made In Japan - 1968' and the actual concert was at the Budokan Hall, Tokyo, Japan, on the 4th October 1968.

Set list is:

01 - Last Train To Clarksville
02 - I Wanna Be Free
03 - DW Washburn
04 - Daydream Believer
05 - Cuddly Toy
06 - Salesman
07 - It's Nice To Be With You
08 - Mary, Mary
09 - Cindy, Cindy
10 - Peter Percival Patterson's Pet Pig Porky
11 - Johnny B Goode
12 - Gonna Build A Mountain
13 - I Got A Woman
14 - I'm A Believer
15 - (I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone

As you would expect the band line up was:

Micky Dolenz: Drums, Vocals
Davy Jones: Percussion, Bass, Vocals
Michael Nesmith: Guitar, Vocals
Peter Tork: Bass, Organ, Banjo, Vocals

The Submarines - Honeysuckle Weeks (2008)

John Dragonetti and Blake Hazard recorded HONEYSUCKLE WEEKS, their second album as THE SUBMARINES, as summer vines blossomed and the sun coaxed green grasses up around the stones leading from their East LA home to their garage-turned-home-studio.

Honeysuckle Weeks weaves together themes drawn from their immediate surroundings and experience: the garden outside, and the push and pull of life and love inside.

Van Morrison - The Inner Mystic Remastered [2CD legendary boot]

Van Morrison - The Inner Mystic Remastered [2CD boot]

Here's the remastered edition of what is, for most Van Morrison fans, the boot that should have been released as a bona-fide double album.

This is what one Russell Parkinson wrote at The Van Morrison Website ;

“This show was recorded live in the studio before a small audience. The band is essentially the Caledonia Soul Orchestra.

This show is probably the most booted recording out there and for good reason. Van is on fire from the very start with a slow burning Into the Mystic which is, in my books, the best version I’ve heard. A frantic I’ve Been Working is next. Six minutes of pure funk ending with Van whispering “you send me” to a fade out. Awesome and once again, the best version of this song there is.

“The small audience couldn’t have believed their luck to strike Van on this sort of form. To reinforce this Van strikes out with a wonderful version of the Them song Fridays Child and follows it up with Elvis Presleys Hound Dog. Van doesn’t quite bring the sexual innuendo that Elvis does to this song but it rocks and is a lot of fun.”

The double album has been predominately circulated as 'The Inner Mystic' and was recorded live at the Pacific High Studios, CA, USA, during September 1971.

The remastered version, brings the quality up to CD/digital standards.

Interesting and hilarious response below to one of Daryl Cagle's great cartoons!

This angry Conservative guy says "It's ok to insult someone as long as they are not a Minority."

Fucking hell! I thought these conservative freaks were a minority now!!

Let's hope for the day when these conservative types are a minority everywhere!

This angry dumb Conservative guy says "Why don't you call my number and call me a Monkey to my face?"

Erm, moron, if Cagle calls you on the phone, unless you've got some Star Trek type technology, he won't be seeing your dumb face when he calls you "monkey"!!

Let's hope for the day when these moronic types are a minority everywhere!

=======================================

From: John Evans
Subject: Why

So you characterize me as a "Monkey" because I don't like someone's political beliefs.

How disgusting of you.

Typical Liberal Democrat - It's ok to insult someone as long as they are not a Minority. It's still an insult and you should apologize. You are a racist, just because we are conservative and not agree with you, you make us into Monkeys????

What's wrong with you, where is your open mind, where is your compasion and caring for others?

John

Why don't you call my number and call me a Monkey to my face, don't you believe in what you do?

I wouldn't say the conservative character in my cartoon is a "monkey" - I'd say he is "evolutionally challenged." - Daryl Cagle

The Seven Deadly Offset Credits

The Seven Deadly Offset Credits

by Daryl Cagle

The Vatican just announced a brand new, modern set of seven deadly sins to supplant the old seven sins which have grown pretty tired through the years. The old seven deadly sins: lust, wrath, gluttony, sloth, greed, pride, and envy were proclaimed by a sixth century pope and were made famous by Dante in his "Divine Comedy" and by Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman in the movie "Seven," which was a pretty darn scary movie.

The new sins are:

1. Genetic engineering

2. Drug abuse

3. The disparity between the very rich and the very poor

4. Pollution

5. Abortion

6. Pedophilia

7. Causing social injustice

The church describes the new sins as social in nature and "a corollary of the unstoppable process of globalization." Societies have experience regulating social issues, like pollution, and that experience gives us a great leg up on regulating the other sins.

California's Governor Schwarzenegger likes to fly his jet home, from Sacramento to Los Angeles, each night after work, so he can spend time with his family. Schwarzenegger creates a lot of pollution in his daily commute, but the governor buys carbon-offset credits from businesses that are more environmentally friendly than they need to be, selling their eco-surplus back to the governor. Al Gore does the same thing, reducing his big carbon footprint from his private flights and his big houses by buying carbon-offset credits. It's cool. Offsets work. It's the free-market solution and the system works for other sins too.

"The disparity between the very rich and the very poor" is another great sin for offset credits. Very poor people could sell their "poor-people-offset credits" to very rich people who need to relieve their guilt about being rich and reduce the size of their very rich footprint. "Poor-people-offset credits" would create a free market of guilt-reduction exchanged for income redistribution that would work every bit as well as the carbon-offset credits work to reduce the guilt of polluters.

In fact, the system applies to all of the deadly sins. This afternoon I watched New York Governor Eliot Spitzer squirm, under the glare of his dowdy wife, at a one-minute press conference about his being caught as the customer of a high-priced hooker. I've never used the services of a prostitute myself, and I think I deserve some credit for that credits that I should be able to sell to Governor Spitzer at a time when he really needs the "hooker-offsets."

In fact, I personally fare much better with this new set of seven deadly sins than I did with the first set. As an editorial cartoonist, I create very little pollution I even use those curly light bulbs. Given the number of pencils I use, I probably haven't killed any more than one tree in my whole career. Two at the most. Not counting the paper.

I don't cause social injustice (not much anyway); I'm not a pedophile; I don't have abortions; I don't abuse drugs or do any genetic engineering. I score so well on the new sins test that I should be awarded plenty of offsets that I could sell back to the Vatican to offset their pedophile priest problem.

I'll be rich! (But not "very rich," because that would be a sin.)

Spiritualized - Songs In A&E; (2008)

Spiritualized - Songs In A&E (May 20, 2008)

Always great to hear from Jase the Space! And he's back!

Yes, Jason Pierce is back with his sixth studio outing under the Spiritualized banner, 'Songs In A & E', a record that has consumed its creator's life even more than any of its predecessors.

Song's in A&E, the first LP in half a decade from J. Spaceman and his Spiritualized, will be released May 19 in the UK and Europe on Universal/Spaceman !

It has all the flow of previous Spiritualized classics, only here there is no hiding behind studio effects, or screaming tornados of guitar feedback.

As Jason says, "There’s is no need to over-complicate things, to be wilfully strange in music. These songs are simple in their construction, but they're honest."

The result, then, is a record true to Jason's original tenet of simplicity, but completely unlike any of his others, thanks to its naked, unelaborate sound.

In other Spiritualized news, bandleader Jason Spaceman will provide the score for the forthcoming Harmony Korine film Mister Lonely.

This Mortal Coil - Box Set 1983-1991

This Mortal Coil - Box Set 1983-1991

Ripped at 320 Kbps with scanned artwork included.

This is a wonderful collection of great music from the moving-feast of great artists that was TMC!

All credit to cosmos65 for this trove!

Yap, we sure loved TMC back in the day! These were the days of vile cassette tapes etc. I don't think television, let alone the internet, had been invented! BTW, maybe someone can advise me what to do with about 5 crates of fucking useless cassette tapes!!

Anyways, TMC made some amazing and ethereal music - both in their incredible and radical versions of established classics as well as original compositions.

What was originally intended as only a side project soon became the flagship for the wonderful 4AD label.

Of course, along with the great music, came the amazing artwork which was a hallmark of 4 AD.

"What dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause"

—Hamlet : Willy the Shake

This Mortal Coil was a project dreamed up by Ivo Watts-Russell, founder of the great Brit label 4AD Records.

The project brought together key 4AD artists, as well as others not signed to the label, under an umbrella name.

Among others, This Mortal Coil featured contributions from Howard Devoto, Colourbox, Dead Can Dance and, pivotally, Cocteau Twins.

Between 1983 and 1991 This Mortal Coil released three albums—It'll End in Tears, Filigree & Shadow, and Blood—each of which consists largely of atmospheric interpretations of songs by 1970s artists such as Alex Chilton, Chris Bell, Roy Harper, Gene Clark, and Tim Buckley.

Two tracks from the first album, It'll End In Tears, feature vocals by Elizabeth Fraser of the Scottish group Cocteau Twins, who also recorded for 4AD. The better-known of these is the ethereal cover of Tim Buckley's "Song to the Siren", which created considerable renewed interest in Buckley at a time when his albums were not widely available.

The image “http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/e4/ItllEndinTearsalbumcover.png/200px-ItllEndinTearsalbumcover.png” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

It'll End In Tears - 1984

Released in 1984, It'll End in Tears featured musical efforts from 4AD staples like Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde (Cocteau Twins), Steven Young and Martyn Young (Colourbox), Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance), and Mark Cox (The Wolfgang Press), among others, with vocals from Fraser, Sharp, Modern English's Robbie Grey, and Howard Devoto (Buzzcocks/Magazine).

Watts-Russell and Fryer handled any additional instruments or programmed loops as needed. The track listing featured two songs from Big Star's Third/Sister Lovers, plus numbers by Roy Harper and Wire's Colin Newman, in addition to band originals. It'll End in Tears helped crystallize 4AD's emerging signature sound, and helped win a wider audience for their stable of artists.

http://www.delcarodiavolo.com/iTunes/Images/this_mortal_coil/filigree_and_shadow.jpgFiligree & Shadow - 1986

Fryer and Watts-Russell put together a follow-up album, Filigree & Shadow, which was released in 1986.

A sprawling and more varied collection, Filigree & Shadow covered songs by Tim Buckley, Colin Newman, Talking Heads, Pearls Before Swine, Gene Clark, Judy Collins, and Van Morrison in between the original compositions.

The Cocteau Twins' Simon Raymonde was still a significant presence, and string player/arranger Martin McCarrick took a bigger role this time around; Steven Young and Mark Cox both returned, and members of Dif Juz were also prominent. Most vocals were by Dominic Appleton (also of Breathless), Deirdre Rutkowski and Louise Rutkowski, and a pre-dance diva Alison Limerick.

Watts-Russell had announced that he would retire the This Mortal Coil name following Blood, and remained true to his word.

In 1993, he issued this limited-edition Box Set, 1983-1991, which packaged all three of the group's albums, plus a bonus disc featuring original versions of many of their covers.

This box set comprises 4 CDs, "It'll End in Tears", "Filigree & Shadow", "Blood" and the last disc contains the Original Versions of some TMC covers.

In 1998 Watts-Russell released another album in a similar vein to his TMC projects, "...smile's OK", under the name The Hope Blister.

VA - Plum (Thrill Jockey Compilation) [2007]

VA - Plum (Thrill Jockey Compilation) [2007]

A great release from Thrill Jockey - one of my favourite labels and one on which I've spent a shitload of moolah down the years!

This is a limited edition boxed set featuring 20 Thrill Jockey artists covering classic Thrill Jockey material from the archives.

Some amazing artists are featured here!

Fifteen years ago, Thrill Jockey Records was founded on the Lower East Side of New York City. In other words, it was 1992, so Thrill Jockey did as many new labels of those days did and released a number of 7” singles, with now-familiar names like Tortoise and Freakwater, and some now-less-familiar early Thrillers like Sugarshock and Gorilla.

In the fifteen years since 1992, the 7” singles have been fewer and farther between, but with some definite gems from time to time. Brokeback made its debut with a fine delight of a single called Returns to the Orange Grove. The Lonesome Organist bended minds with his 7” and its pop-up deluxe cover, and The National Trust made it happen with a 7” tribute to The Raspberries.

Now Thrill Jockey is looking back to that tradition for a way to celebrate fifteen years of making records for our favorite bands. Inspired by the delicious Devil’s Jukebox 7” box set released in 1989 by Blast First, Thrill Jockey will release a limited edition, heavy weight vinyl 7” box of our own: Thrill Jockey bands covering their favorite Thrill Jockey songs.

The collection is planned as a set of 10 singles. The bands were allowed to cover any song by any Thrill Jockey band, and here’s some of what they chose.

Tortoise chose to cover “Falls Lake” by Nobukazu Takemura, a Japanese musician whose ground breaking albums are delicate combinations of live instrumentation (largely played by Takemura himself), analog synths and computer manipulated or simulated voice recordings (on one record he used a computer program designed for those who are speech impaired).

Arbouretum recorded “Bus Stop,” a dark beauty by Thalia Zedek, a Boston musician also known for her work in the bands Come and UZI. Thalia will be recording her second Thrill Jockey record this fall for release in early 2008, and also makes a contribution to the box set. Special guest on Arbouretum’s recording is Victoria from Beach House, with whom Arbouretum are touring Europe this fall.

The Sea and Cake recorded “Spider’s House” by Califone from their most recent album, Roots and Crowns. The vocal styles of The Sea and Cake’s Sam Prekop bring an entirely new feeling to the song. Califone and The Sea and Cake are touring this fall and will both be performing at Thrill Jockey’s Anniversary shows in London and Chicago.

Pit er Pat selected a gem by The Lonesome Organist, “Flew Out my Window,” from his album “Cavalcade,” re-interpreting it with a killer calypso feel. Pit er Pat’s Butchy Fuego recently performed as drummer number 7 in Boredoms’ 77 Boadrum performance in New York. Pit er Pat are touring in North America this fall with The Fiery Furnaces.

Directions in Music covered “Toy Boat” by Jeff Parker, reminding us very much of the first Tortoise singles when Bundy Brown was in the band. Also, Pullman covered “3 am” by the Chicago Underground Quartet.

David Byrne covered “Ex Guru” by The Fiery Furnaces.

Archer Prewitt covered “Mrs. Turner” by The National Trust.

Bobby Conn, Califone and Thalia Zedek covered Freakwater songs - “Washed in the Blood,” “Jewel” and “ Flat Hand,” respectively.

Freakwater covered “Passengers” by The Zincs.

The Zincs covered “Blue Marble Girl” by Giant Sand.

Howe Gelb covered “Boxers” by John Parish.

John Parish covered “Vampiring Again” by Califone.

Sue Garner & Rick Brown covered “ UMO” by OOIOO.

Adult. covered “Underwater Wave Game” by Pit er Pat.

Angela Desveaux covered “Two Moons” by Arbouretum.

Eleventh Dream Day covered “I Like the Name Alice” by Sue Garner.

Mouse On Mars covered "Middlenight" by The Sea and Cake.

We hope you all enjoy this box set as much as we do and that it inspires you to chase down and listen to the originals - they are killer too! These songs will not be released on CD, and the box set will be pressed in a limited edition.

[URT Vol. 1] is the CD that turned the entire record industry on it's ear. In the late '80's, this (and it's companion, Vol. 2) appeared in record stores in Europe, then the USA, and it contained absolute perfect studio session outtakes of many of the Beatles hits.

Nothing of this quality had EVER appeared for any artist.

Naturally EMI was furious.

But more URT editions continued, as well as the BackTrack series, the Unsurpassed Masters series (allegedly from the same thief who purloined this set) and many more.

A case can clearly be made that the notoriety and excitement by URT caused the emergence of archival releases, box sets and other rarities packages that might never have come otherwise. URT is likely one of the most historic and important bootleg releases ever.

Oh ... and it's really fucking Great too!!

Ultra Rare Trax Volumes One and Two may well have been the first two Beatles boot CD's released in Europe.

They had previously been on vinyl and allegedly originates from master tapes "borrowed" from Abbey Road, which obviously upset some EMI exec's.

Released by prolific bootleggers Swinging Pig records on CD and made in Luxembourg, they were certainly in circulation by 1988.

These are a selection of studio outtakes, and similar to material released on the official Anthology series.

They are another piece of Beatles history, and make fascinating listening.
