MACON, Ga. -- A day after making headlines by announcing he would not support Nancy Pelosi for another term as Speaker, Rep. Jim Marshall said he hopes more Democratic Members will join him in calling for new leadership in the party.
For politicians and campaigns on the wrong side of public opinion as Election Day approaches, desperation yields unfortunate results. Campaigns, candidates and even elected officials who should know better find themselves saying and doing bad things.
When you're short on cash, spending more isn't usually the best idea. But for national Republicans, an aggressive program of early spending helped soften the Democratic landscape. And now, a massive spending plan by a coalition of outside groups could allow Republicans to compete dollar for dollar in the final weeks of the campaign.
