Largest Cuts in Local Jobs in 30 Years
Though unemployment held steady at 9.6 percent, the economy shed 95,000 jobs. At the local level, almost 50,000 jobs were lost in education alone. All in all, the September data showed no evidence that unemployment is structural rather than due to a lack of demand. For more, see CEPR's Jobs Byte.
