Still wading in and out of our childhood memories with Julie Andrews and Sound of Music, we also can’t forget two other people who have given us some critically-acclaimed entertainment. Danny Elfman and Tim Burton are two peas in a pod when it comes to making some of the most credible films of our generation. With Burton bringing us some of the darkest yet surreal and enticing cinematography and Elfman providing us with his innovative and out-of-this-world musical arrangements (he was the front man of Oingo Boingo after all!), we were lucky enough to experience their collaborations on films such as Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and plenty more.
There is good news for Elfman-Burton fans. Paying tribute to this great partnership, will be a magical, in-depth, detailed 25th anniversary music box. It’s about time, too. They’ve been spoiling us fans with great films and scores for over two decades now!

If Julie Andrews isn’t actually a household name in your house, then shame on you. You, your kids, your nephews and nieces should all know who this multi-talented actress and singer is. For most of us, she was the face and voice of Rodger and Hammerstein’s film version of Sound of Music as well as the charming and magical nanny in the film, Mary Poppins. However, if you’re one of those youngin’s who tragically have no clue who this woman is, she is the grandmother and queen from the Princess Dairies films and the voice of Princess Fiona’s mother in the second Shrek movie.

With much buzz floating around the internet after two surprise appearances with The Felice Brothers, there was no way we were going to miss out on the chance of seeing Nebraska’s very own Conor Oberst play a set with an amazing set of musicians as a backing band. The suspense in the Echo built up as fast as the tiny venue filled with fans. What set of songs would he be playing? Would it be a set of new songs or the Bright Eyes classics that haven’t been played in so long? After coming on stage with an 11-song setlist, we were about to find out.

October is here, and it appears that the quality of music we’ve got lining its opening weekend is competing for attention, like whoa. A little bit of electronica, the always dependable singer/songwriter mix, and combined working of genre that we’re not quite sure how to label. Nothing but good stuff. Quick; put down what you’re doing… you’ve got five important decisions to consider.

How’s this for a meeting of minds: a collaboration between Edward Norton, Robert De Niro and… Radiohead? Yep—as it turns out, Norton and Radiohead are pals, and the actor requested the band’s help on his upcoming film, Stone, which also features (an apparently I’m-back-in-my-actually-caring-about-acting-mode) Robert De Niro:

Gotta hand it to Glastonbury festival organizer Michael Eavis. The man is a pro at the art of (musical) seduction. Spinner.com reports that Eavis will announce the three Glastonbury headliners for 2011 once tickets for the festival are sold out.
There are rumors swirling that U2 might be invited back to the festival, especially since they had to cancel last time around due to Bono’s back problems.
“We don’t know yet,” Eavis told BBC Newsbeat about U2. “We’re obviously planning all sorts of things.”

As we’ve told you in our previous giveaway, electro-folk pop star Ellie Goulding was getting ready to make a great first impression with her first show in Los Angeles let alone in the US. She went beyond these expectations on Tuesday night when she played to a packed house at The Roxy by proving that only talent can transform a shy acoustic singer-songwriter into a dazzling electro pop star. Although her voice may have started out small, her songs victoriously boomed with vitality and style.
