CrimethInc. Coming to Your Town. Maybe.

An enthusiastic and delightful circus of outlaw engineers and charming maniacs are going on a nation-wide tour traveling from the Pacific Northwest across the country, down the East Coast and ending up at the 6th annual CrimethInc. Convergence—and they need your help to make it happen (see below). A dissected and rewired bus, resurrected by Winona Minnesota’s faction of the CrimethInc. Madass Scientists Guild will be converted into running on vegetable oil. Literally living off the fat of the land, this unstoppable veggie-oil guzzlin’ task force could be headed your way.

The purpose of this tour is to stimulate the magic and intimacy already present in the communities we plan on visiting.

DA Guide Goes to Second Printing

datrashsmall.jpg

We just got back from doing the press check for the second printing of our A Civilian’s Guide to Direct Action. After a first printing of 20,000 vanished in just over a year, we decided to crank out 30,000 this time, and made one minor design change on the back that really ties the whole thing together. You can grab the PDF right here. One more pic after the jump.

Post-Bookfair Report

bookfairtablesmall.jpgOur 7th annual trip to the Bay Area Bookfair was our most successful yet. We gave away every free item we brought: 1200 pamphlets, 3200 posters, 18000 stickers (really!), and had many great conversations with y’all. We sold some books too. There’s nothing like the energy coming from two days of interacting with all kinds of great people from all over and turning so many passersby onto the ideas we all hold so dear. As far as my panel discussion—all 8 people who were there (excluding my roomates) thought it was great. Another photo beyond the jump.

Far East Cell at SF Anarchist Bookfair

bookfair.jpgJust wanted to drop a quick note saying the Far East Cell will have a table (two tables, in fact!) at the 12th Annual Bay Area Anarchist Bookfair, going down next weekend (March 17th & 18th) in San Francisco. This year, our seventh straight, we’ll have our usual stacks of free posters, stickers and papers, as well as the new Rolling Thunder #4, and all of our other books and magazines. I’ll also be on a panel, about which I know nothing more than the name, “The Future of Independent and Radical Bookselling.” But, most importantly, we’ll be debuting our new display/shelf creation, made from leftover wood from our table project. See ya there.

Babel, Children of Men, and Pan’s Labyrinth

At base, these three Hollywood movies by Mexican directors share the same chilling fixations and questions. All three derive their edge from focusing on grievous threats to children while dwelling upon whether adult humanity deserves to—or even can—survive its self-inflicted catastrophes.
