Frequently asked questions

How can I protect myself from a scam?

From time to time websites are used for posting fake property listings and other scams. These types of scams are a breach of realestate.com.au’s Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Use, and may also be against the law.

You should be cautious of:

  • any listing which seems too good to be true
  • refusal to allow you to inspect the property
  • the prospective landlord is overseas
  • being asked for any money upfront without inspecting the property
  • being asked for any money upfront in order to secure the property or an inspection
  • being asked to provide your personal details

You should always inspect a property in person. A drive by inspection is not enough, as the property listing may use a real address but the property is not for rent or sale.

Do not disclose personal or financial information, or make any payment before viewing the property.

An advertisement looks suspicious. What can I do?

Report it to us immediately by contacting our Customer Care Centre on 1300 134 174 (8.30am - 5.30pm ESDST) or customercare@realestate.com.au

If you think you have fallen victim to a scam contact us, contact your local police and report the matter to SCAMwatch (http://www.scamwatch.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/693900).

Why are there additional property feature fields? How have these fields been chosen?

The additional property feature fields have been created to provide richer content and an improved and better targeted search functionality for our users.

These fields have been chosen based on current consumer search terms and feedback from emails to the site. We will review these features on an ongoing basis based on customer and consumer feedback.

Why does my property not include particular features when I do a compare property?

If you have a property feature that is not shown on the site, please go into Agent Desktop and select the appropriate feature from the list builder. This is under listing details (search stocklist, select property, click on listing details) just under the property details section.

XML providers have already been notified to include this in their development programs and changes should have been made. If not please contact your XML provider for further information.

Why doesn’t my feature property have a red border?

Based on consumer feedback we have updated the look and feel of our site to ensure it is clean and easy to use. Feature Properties retain their priority above standard listings in the search results, we have changed the border from red to grey so the focus is on your brand and your listing. Feature properties now have strong branding in the map flyout and are also featured on mobile.

What size logo do I require?

Agent logos can display on more places on the enhanced site, increasing your agency's brand exposure.

The following logo sizes are required for each product:

Platinum

  • Small (Map, Gallery and List View, Open For Inspection)
  • Medium (Find an Agent, Property Details Page)

Feature Property

  • Small (Map, Gallery and List View, Open For Inspection, compare pages)
  • Medium (Property Details Page)

Exclusive Agent Showcase

  • Medium (Map, List and Gallery View)

How are the Feature Agents sorted on the results page?

  1. Feature Agent purchased by an office located in the suburb (in alphabetical order)
  2. Feature Agent purchased by an office not located in the suburb (in alphabetical order)
  3. Agents located in the suburb (in alphabetical order)
  4. Agents located in surrounding suburbs (in alphabetical order)

Feature Agent Example:

If the consumer searches for Richmond, the following agents are returned:
Agent A - Richmond (physically located in Richmond) featured for Richmond
Agent B - Collingwood (physically located in Collingwood) but featured location for Richmond
Agent C - Richmond (physically located in Richmond) featured for Richmond

The results for this search will be sorted in the following order:
