BACKGROUND: The Orchid Society of the Royal Botanical
Gardens were established in 1981. The orchid
Society exists for the education of members and conservation of orchids.

The Orchid Society has greenhouse space within the Royal Botanical Gardens that houses a collection of approximately 1200 species and hybrid orchids. The Annual Spring Orchid Show at the Royal Botanical Gardens is organized and staffed by the members of the Orchid Society. There are currently 100 Society members.

GREENHOUSE GROUP:
There is an opportunity to work with the New World Species Orchid Collection at the Royal Botanical Gardens. This group meets Saturday morning in the greenhouse. Please let Jim Brash know if you will be attending

FLASKING GROUP:
Monthly meetings are held in the Alexander Parker Orchid Propagation Lab. Meetings consist of discussion and propagation from seed of rare and unusual orchid species from around the world. Meetings are held the 4th Wednesday of each month starting at 6:30pm

NATIVE ORCHID STUDY GROUP:
This group meets on a regular basis to study Native Canadian Orchids and organize field trips to view these orchids in their natural habitat. In conjunction with the flasking group, this group aims to propagate native orchids from seed.

ANNUAL SHOW:
The Annual Spring Show at the R.B.G. is our opportunity to showcase the beauty and diversity of orchids. Judged by the American Orchid Society, it features orchid displays by societies and growers from across Canada and the USA. There are also exhibits of flower arrangements, painting, photographs and plant sales.
Our society also participates in fellow Orchid Society Shows by entering displays.

MEETINGS:
They are held on the 3rd Sunday of each month starting at 2:00pm in the Royal Botanical Gardens Headquarters building at 680 Plains Road West, Burlington.
