If there is anything that makes me happier in this world than watching other people dance, I haven’t found it yet. Here, an intrepid Stormtrooper and two CGI buddies “cut a rug” to the tune of “Singin’ in the Rain”.

After leaving The Antlers to focus his own work, Justin Stivers has finally put his solo career into motion, with two full albums sitting under his belt. The first release will be his own winter variations EP, set for release on September 14.
According to Justin, “winter variations is a product of schizophrenia. After nearly a year of tracking and mixing Pet Ghost Project’s newest LP Shelf Life (set for release in 2011), focus meandered. The slow process of releasing an album just wasn’t sitting right. (We) were constantly waiting – waiting for the label, waiting for funds, waiting for others to give the go ahead. Enter winter variations, an album born of urgency and immediate gratification. Re-arranging one song off of each album they’ve done in the past and recorded in just 3 short hours (all in one or two takes) at Serious Business Records in New York City. This EP is Pet Ghost Project stripped of all pretension and excess.”
Pet Ghost Project will celebrate the release of winter variations with a special hometown show on September 10 at Cameo Gallery in Brooklyn with Miniboone, Quiet Loudly, and Gunfight!

Kids of 88 – Downtown (Official Video) from Dryden Street on Vimeo.
A few days ago, our good buddies at The Music Slut premiered this clip, but we like it to, so we’re all about sharing it with you all.
Kids of 88 describe their music as a “whimful combination of dirt spitting kicks and feathering grit. An overdose of nightlife; the lubricated moan of spilt vodka. The hard realization of concrete and the happiness of blurry vision. An alleyway gangbang between Grandmaster Flash and The Knack.”
That’s intense, we like it – please enjoy, homies.
If you haven’t heard much of the AV Club’s Undercover series, you’re an idiot. Ha, just kidding. This week, there’s finally a relevant piece for those Neutral Milk Hotel fans that go nuts every time we write up something on the band – with only four weeks to go on the show, The Swell Season chose to cover NMH’s “Two-Headed Boy” for the sessions, which despite the usual fears about covers of the band, was pretty awesome.
In case you forgot, The Swell Season are Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová from Once, winners of Best Original Song Oscar in 2008.
The White Panda are a mash-up/remix duo (Tom Evans (aka Procrast) and Dan Griffith (aka DJ Griffi)) based out of Chicago and the city of Angels. The duo released their debut album, entitled Versus, on December 28, 2009 and just released their latest album Rematch, on July 2nd, 2010. I want them to remix my office — take the humdrum noise of, well, nothing, and replace it with a bit o’ nothing sprinkled with more rad beats.
That’s just what I think, anyway.

“Though they’re a bit more accustomed to green fields, cool lakes, and the shaded cover of the North Woods, Minnesotan duo Peter Wolf Crier seem right at home amongst the traffic humming by on Houston and First Ave in this segment of The Guest Apartment at Little Veselka in the LES. Preparing three bluesy and soulful songs from the band’s recently released, Jagjaguwar debut Inter-Be, the band interacted with passersby (with help from one adorable observer in particular), taking time to discuss the roots of their album and how it shaped their identity as musicians along the way. ”
Today marks the release of the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Original Motion Picture soundtrack, featuring Beck, Broken Social Scene, Metric, and Frank Black (just to mention a few), plus the original score composed by Nigel Godrich is hitting stores as well.
To help celebrate, we attended a ‘Meet the Filmmakers’ session at the Apple Store in SoHo featuring Director Edgar Wright, Michael Cera, Anna Kendrick, and Jason Schwartzman.

Check out the latest song/video from Sigur Ros‘ vocalist/guitarist, Jónsi, “Animal Arithmetic” from his solo release, Go, out now on XL Recordings.
As part of my new commitment to being open about my taste in music throughout my teens and early twenties, I’ve decided to mine for my fave tunes from my youth, as you will and l present a video from a song that I loved then and still sorta love now. Today’s presentation is the wonderfully awesome “Thunder Kiss ’65″ from White Zombie‘s La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol. 1.
Awww, 1992, where have you gone?
“I Lived My Life To Stand In The Shadow of Your Heart” is the fourth single from the band’s critically acclaimed record Exploding Head.

Hey guys, sorry for my absence, but I had a serious allergic reaction to something and was in the hospital all Monday. Yesterday was “sleep it off and take tons of Benadryl” day, so I am back in the office today. Just getting back up to speed, so thanks for bearing with me and thank you for all the kind words on Facebook.
I am not THIS big of a fan of anything. Hell, I think I made two wrestling posters back when THAT seemed like a good idea. This takes the cake, though. 17 months of creation? Insane.

Today, Australian three-piece Clubfeet, drop their debut LP via Plant Music, entitled, Gold On Gold. The band have been getting very favorable reviews and strong comparisons to other bands like Hot Chip, Teenagers, and Junior Boys and are sure to make their way into your hearts with their “Dance-y McFuntime” goodness (*Ssquared created this word. Since their album hit our desks a month ago, Jagjaguwar’s Gayngs has been blowing our mind. The soft, indie rock has found a solid home into our music rotations (and definitely deserves one in yours as well. The video here is for “The Gaudy Side of Town,” a personal fave, that Pitchfork.tv had on display (no, I am not in love with P4K!).
You should watch and listen – if you ever wished for an 80s renaissance or harbor a crush on Phil Collins but wish he was more…more INDIE, Relayted is the epitome of “cool”.

With the release of “Sleep Forever” (the band’s sophomore release), Crocodiles will be on the road a great deal over the next few months. Thanks to our good friends at Baeblemusic for passing along a clip of one of RE’s favorite bands, Local Natives, rocking the piss out of Bowery Ballroom. The clip comes from their sold out NYC show in May (that I was out of town for) but we can click above and watch together forever. Their album, Gorilla Manor, is on constant repeat in my home and office, and my geekiness and love for them knows no bound.s
