'Last Call with Carson Daly' Renewed for 10th (!) Season

by Chris Harnick, posted Aug 20th 2010 10:30AM
Carson DalyHappy 10th Season, Carson Daly! Wait, it's been 10 seasons of 'Last Call with Carson Daly'?

According to Variety, NBC has indeed picked up the late night talk show for a season 10. "I really feel that 'Last Call' has hit its stride. It took 10 years, but it feels brand new and great,"Daly told Variety.

NBC also announced that Daly will continue to serve as the host of its New Year's Eve programming.

If you get over the initial shock that 'Last Call' is still on, the late night show's renewal should come as no surprise. With the controversy surrounding Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno earlier this year, NBC made it clear months ago they wanted to keep Daly around, even if they didn't end up giving him the 'Late Night' hosting gig.

Spike Lee on the Gulf Oil Spill and Returning to New Orleans

by Joel Keller, posted Aug 20th 2010 10:03AM
Spike Lee filming 'If God is Willing and Da Creek Don't Rise' for HBOWhen Spike Lee first planned out his new HBO documentary, 'If God Is Willing and Da Creek Don't Rise,' about the state of New Orleans and the Gulf region five years after Hurricane Katrina, he figured he'd end the movie on a high note, with the city celebrating after the Saints won the Super Bowl.

    But BP changed those plans.

After the Deepwater Horizon blew up in April, starting the epic Gulf oil spill that only recently got plugged, Lee knew he had more work to do.

"The film is trying to tell what has happened in the last five years since August 29, 2005. So therefore we have to include the biggest oil disaster in the history of the world," Lee told a roundtable of reporters before his TCA panel earlier this month. "If I sat here and you guys see this film and you would've said 'Spike, what the f---? How come there's no BP in this movie?' Everyone would look at me like I'm crazy. It had to be included. So we included it, we had to start shooting again."

Explosive Drunk-Dials Lead to Snooki/Emilio Breakup on 'Jersey Shore' (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Aug 20th 2010 5:30AM
Snooki and Emilio Break Up on 'Jersey Shore'Copious amounts of drunk-dialing never ends well. But at least on 'Jersey Shore' (Thu., 10PM ET on MTV), it provides Jenni "JWoww" Farley the chance to defend Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi with some choice comebacks.

Snooki's bodybuilder boyfriend drunk-dials her to mention "half naked girls everywhere," then calls again to say (with slurred speech) that he's just slept with someone. Emilio eventually says he's kidding, but not before Snooki has sufficiently cussed him out.

Dropping Into a Cave to Chase Angry Eels on 'Extreme Cuisine' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 20th 2010 4:35AM
Dropping Into a Cave to Chase Angry Eels on 'Extreme Cuisine'The word "extreme" seems to get thrown around a lot these days. We have extreme sodas, extreme sporting events, and so on and so forth. And we're a little skeptical about some of these things, to be honest. So we'll just actually have to tune in to the show 'Extreme Cuisine With Jeff Corwin' (Thu., 8PM ET on Food Network) -- in order to learn if it's really EXTREME TO THE MAX.

On the latest episode of the show, host (and "food anthropologist") Jeff Corwin travels to New Zealand, where he hunts down an obscure species of eel. Supposedly, these eels are good eating, but in order to reach them, you have to rappel down into a cave. Also, the cave is pitch black, and is filled with waist-deep, freezing cold water.

Sharon Osbourne: David Hasselhoff Is Crazy for Doing the Roast (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Aug 20th 2010 4:10AM
Sharon Osbourne Talks Hasselhoff Roast on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'Sharon Osbourne has a high tolerance for crazy -- her 28 years as Ozzy's wife have no doubt helped her deal with manic, recovering-alcoholic people like former coworker David Hasselhoff.

She misses working with him on 'America's Got Talent,' she said on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12:05AM ET on ABC). "My thing is, hey, whatever you do in your own time, God bless. He can snort, sniff, shoot, do whatever he wants, as long as he comes to work straight -- which he did."

Chelsea Handler's Guest Lies, Then Accuses Her of Having Really Ugly Feet (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 20th 2010 3:39AM
Chelsea Handler's Guest Lies, Then Accuses Her of Having Really Ugly FeetWe ran into some controversy on multiple fronts during 'Chelsea Lately' (weeknights, 11PM ET on E!). First, there were some lies and deception. Then, there was a discussion of Chelsea's potentially disgusting "club feet." Oh man. Things are getting a little out of hand here.

Comedian Jo Koy was one of the guests, and he was promoting his latest comedy show. But out of vanity, silliness, or just plain weirdness, Jo pretended that his show was sold out. Then it turned out that his show wasn't sold out. Chelsea Handler was mildly peeved by this. "YOU ARE SUCH A LIAR," she said to Jo. "YOU LIE ... ALL THE TIME."

'Project Runway' - 'Hats Off to You' Recap

by Michael Pascua, posted Aug 20th 2010 2:04AM
Heidi and the models with interesting hats(S08E04) We continue this episode of 'Project Runway' right where we left off the last episode. Ivy is on the floor and is sent to the hospital. After all the hoopla, Ivy claims it was just dehydration. I'm sure that the combination of cigarettes, diet coke, stress and hours of sniffing hot glue was probably the culprit.

The designers are given a very interesting challenge to design a dress to go along with Philip Treacy designed hats. Interestingly, the designers stay loyal to their models instead of picking a cool hat; this mostly because Kristin was last pick and no one wanted Peach's model Ife -- even though she had one of the most dramatic hats, she came off a bit sharp. The designers were given the stereotypical one day, $150 and the chance for immunity.

Jennifer Aniston Once Dated Jon Stewart! (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 20th 2010 1:52AM
Jennifer Aniston Once Dated Jon Stewart!Jennifer Aniston is the guest on the latest 'Daily Show' (weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central). And while she's on the show, we get a shocking, semi-shocking, or at least kind of shocking revelation. Back in the early '90s, when she was a star on 'Friends,' Jen Aniston went on a date with ... Jon Stewart! He took her out to an Italian restaurant. No lie! True story!

Sadly, the date didn't go that well, which is probably why Jen ended up becoming Ms. Brad Pitt. (And then became ex-Ms. Brad Pitt.) According to Jon's recollection of the event, he realized that the date was going badly when Jen brought "so many of her friends." ... Yeah, that's never good.

In the penultimate episode of the summer season, you probably anticipated that 'Burn Notice' would be coming to a big climax. It seemed to me after last week that the cliffhanger would be all about Robert Patrick's character, John Barrett, and his part in the larger Simon/Vaughn/Management story line. However, that wasn't the build up. If you were picking up on the signals Madeline was sending out, though, you guessed that it was all about Jesse.

The End of the Iraq War on 'Colbert' -- Was the War Worth It? (VIDEO)

The End of the Iraq War on 'Colbert' -- Was the War Worth It?"WE DID IT!" This is the message emblazoned on the screen in huge capital letters during 'The Colbert Report' (weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central). Yes; it's time to celebrate the last American combat troops leaving Iraq. So, let's do it up; Stephen Colbert-style.

Balloons fall -- and Stephen yells, and lifts his arms in victory. The combat phase of the Iraq War is officially over! And now that it is over, Colbert remembers to give credit where credit is due. And the person who deserves all the credit? President George W. Bush.

'Big Brother 12' - 'Live Eviction #6, Head of Household #7' Recap

by Jackie Schnoop, posted Aug 20th 2010 12:30AM
The saboteur left a note in the 'Big Brother 12' house(Season 12, Episode 19) We wanted it, we got it. And I'm not talking about a car. Although it was heavily manipulated with all kinds of rule-bending, we knew the Diamond Power of Veto would be all but forced into play in tonight's 'Big Brother 12' episode.

This season has been an odd one, if nothing else. We've definitely seen more production interference than in seasons past. While it gives us more excitement and suspense, I can't bring myself to say that all of the interference to make it "good TV" is a good thing at all. Heck, I liked interference better when show fans were flying banner planes over the house. That leveled the playing field more than when the producers direct the action.

'Sons of Anarchy' Creator and Actor Publicly Feud ... or Not

by Chris Jordan, posted Aug 19th 2010 8:19PM
Any good biker gang worth its salt has its fair share of in-gang feuding. The 'Sons of Anarchy' are no different.

The FX biker drama's two top dogs, showrunner Kurt Sutter and star Charlie Hunnam, who plays Jax, are having a bit of a public rumble that could be nothing more than a little creative tension rising to the surface. Or maybe there's something more underlying it.

Hunnam initially voiced displeasure with Sutter's tendency to be less than forthcoming about plot lines in an interview in the Chicago Tribune.

"Keeping actors in the dark is not always the right move, because without knowing the direction that something's going, one can make slight mistakes,'' the British-born Hunnam said. "There has to be a big, psychological leap to get to where you're being taken.''

'America's Next Top Model' Cycle 15: Meet the Contestants

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 19th 2010 6:00PM
Tyra BanksIt's hard to believe that we're now on the 15th iteration of 'The Tyra Banks Show' 'America's Next Top Model' -- it's been a long, catfight-filled road since the show's debut in 2003.

To shake things up for 'Top Model's crystal anniversary, this season will focus on all things high fashion. (Does that mean we won't have to hear Tyra complain that the girls are "too commercial," or that we'll hear it even more?) Along with its classed-up image, 'ANTM' has upped the stakes. The winner will now appear on 'Vogue Italia' instead of 'Seventeen.' Maybe it's new judge André Leon Talley's influence?

In advance of the show's Sept. 8 premiere, The CW released a series of videos on its YouTube account yesterday introducing the 14 new contestants to their adoring public. (Side note: Whoa, there are now more cycles than girls competing!) Join us after the jump to take a first look at who's still in the running towards becoming America's Next Top Model.
