After BP's Deepwater Horizon drill rig exploded on April 20th, killing 11 workers, the U.S. government, conservation groups and insurance companies started poring over documents looking for the cause of the accident. The faulty blowout preventer was the first culprit but other reasons for why the well exploded in the first place, and why it has been so hard to control, are coming to light. So is the fact that workers on the rig knew mechanical failures and flawed designs would lead to disaster. WBAI's Christine Black spoke to Kieran Suckling, Executive Director of the Center for Biological Diversity. His organization has been doing their own analysis of documents from the government's investigation. For Women Only. This 4- week series, beginning in August, is for women who want to understand the truth about how they are held back on the job, in the classroom, in the home, and how a feminist movement was organized to change it; how we can learn from it to build the kind of movement that can put male chauvinists on the run again, and how each woman can contribute to that effort. The class will teach the radical ideas and methods that sparked the rebirth of the feminist movement in the 1960s.
As of July 19th, the list of WBAI Local Station Board candidates has been finalized. The list of candidates and their statements, is now available. Ballots will be mailed August 16th.
