The Streets of Cleveland are Silent
I've been meaning to write something about the passing of Harvey Pekar. Time to do it, Harvey was certainly one for documenting his life. I had the pleasure to meet Harvey when he spoke at the Edinburgh Film Festival several years ago. I wrote about it here. He seemed like a genuinely decent guy, although undoubtedly an eccentric. He had a keen sense of social justice that he stayed true to, even when it cost him gigs like his spot on a U.S chat show.
His work with Robert Crumb endeared him to many and they were clearly kindred souls in many respect, as a read of Crumb's work on his days as an obsessive Jazz record collector would confirm.
He'll be missed.

Hawk in a tight spot
In between these guys heads you will see a hawk flying. Part of a falconry display at Linlithgow Palace. The local seagulls were gathering in mobs to chase off the birds of prey.

Ar-gen-tina
Not only are Argentina the best team in the world cup, they are the most socially conscious (although Algeria did watch Battle of Algiers before the game with England and dedicated the result to the people of Palestine). They are backing the candidacy of the Mothers of the Disappeared (who campaign for victims of the fascist 'dirty war' in Argentina) for the Nobel prize. More here.

Gaza demo
A great turnout today in the stifling heat to demonstrate in Edinburgh against the appalling murder of activists from the freedom flotilla trying to break the illegal blockade of Gaza by the Israeli state.

Teenage Fanclub
Great gig as ever from Teenage Fanclub on Thursday night in Edinburgh. Also enjoyed the support act Veronica Falls. Main problem was the sound which was muddy and seemed to get swallowed up in the Picture House. You need to be nearer the front to get any decent sound at this venue.
