    Wingspan – Down2Earth (EP)

    August 23rd, 2010

The day has finally come. Wordap and Pigeons and Planes are proud to present Wingspan’s first EP, Down2Earth. As the EP title suggests Wingspan is a very down to earth person. He lets us into the major occurrences that happened in his life during the past 2-3 years. Out of all these songs my favorite is probably “Sky Status.” For a young artist like himself, who’s only been in the game for 3 years at most he has the ability to deliver a well rounded song. The chorus and lyrics on this song are just too dope. Wingspan is definitely an artist to check for. He keeps on improving his craft. With the passion he has in his music I can see him going far. I think its safe to say we’ll be seeing him on a lot more collaborations in the future.

    Throwback Thursday on a Monday

    August 23rd, 2010

Ok I haven’t really had anything to post today (Sunday) so here’s a track that’s always been one of my favorites. It appears on one of my favorite Joe Budden mixtapes, The Growth (Bootleg). You probably haven’t heard this version of the mixtape so download it here. The song is called “Not Your Average Joe” and it featues RNB singer Joe and Fat Joe. This was originally planned to be one of his singles off the ill-fated album. Unfortunately after “Gangsta Party” didn’t take off he really never had another chance. This song fit the era it was made very well. I could see this being a big hit back then if they would have really pushed it to radio. As you already know I recently purchased Mood Muzik 3 in anticipation for Mood Muzik 4. I can’t wait! Joe Budden is one of the most underrated introspective rappers out.

    Down 2 Earth: This Monday!

    August 22nd, 2010

On Monday July 23rd Wing Span plans to release his long awaited and pushed back debut EP, Down 2 Earth. Various things happened in his life causing the pushback. Doubt, car crashes, death and betrayal were all part of the reasons for pushbacks. Finally after all the bullsh*t, things are looking up and this EP has finally gotten the get go. Here are the 2 songs he’s released off the EP to date. Lookout for these songs and 6 more songs this Monday on Pigeons and Planes as well as Wordap.

    Single of the Week #34

    August 21st, 2010

This week Crooked released his Planet C.O.B. Volume 1 mixtape on his website, Planet COB. The track I’m posting now is a bonus track for it. Crooked I doesn’t give us a ton of deep songs but when he does you know they won’t disapoint. This is one of those occasions. Crooked also recently returned with the sequel to his critically acclaimed Hip Hop Weekly series. It looks like Crooked I has a lot to offer us over the next 50 months. I wonder if finally releasing B.O.S.S. will be in his plans? I guess we can only wait.

    Just Copped 8/20/2010

    August 21st, 2010

Earlier today I went to best buy to cop Statlanta and Str8 Killa. To my disappointment they had neither. This gave me the incentive to pick up some albums I never got around to picking up though. I ended up picking up Lil Flip – Ahead of My Time, Joe Budden – Mood Muzik 3, K’naan – The Troubador, and Outkast – ATLiens. I had previously heard all of them except for the Lil Flip joint. Hit the jump for my thoughts on the CD’s.

Kanye West – Power RMX (feat. Jay-Z)

    August 20th, 2010

Wow this Remix is really dope. The only part I’m not really feeling is the Swizz Beats Remix towards the end. Other than that Jay and Kanye both drop crazy new verses. Also there’s a little John Legend singing on it! I woulda posted this as single of the week but I already posted the original as one. Any how Kanye’s new album, Dark Twisted Fantasy is currently scheduled to drop November 16th. I think we can expect something amazing with this one. People have said good things about it but most importantly he’s been killing his verses as of late. As a bonus I’ve included a trimmed down version without the beat change.

Drake – Miss Me (Feat. Lil Wayne)

    August 20th, 2010

Drake is back with his 3rd video off his debut album, Thank Me Later which recently reached platinum status. This time he gives us visuals to a timeless Lil Wayne collaboration known as “Miss Me.” While the video doesn’t feature anything groundbreaking, I love this track. Whenever Wayne and Drake collaborate they always bring something dope to the table. I’m really hoping that Drake and Wayne collabo album actually happens someday. I’ve been bumping Thank Me Later as of late and I still feel that its a great successor to So Far Gone.

    Music Video Weekly #105

    August 18th, 2010

Today I decided to play an album from a group known as Artifacts whom I had never heard about. I started listening to their CD, Between a Rock and a Hard Place and thoroughly enjoyed it from the first song to the last. Comprised of El Da Sensei and Tame One, Artifacts became an underground success in the early 90s. They only put out 2 albums after disbanding but as of earlier this month they’ve decided to reform. My best guess is that their new album won’t probably be out until 2011. Both rappers were from Newark, New Jersey. I had previously heard of El Da Sensei from some of the tracks he had Pacewon featured on but other than that I had virtually no knowledge on him or his group member. Their 2 main singles were “Wrong Side of da Tracks” and “C’mon Wit da Git Down.” The earlier of the two was more popular but I found that I liked “C’mon Wit da Git Down” a little bit more. If you haven’t heard Between a Rock and a Hard Place then you should definitely give it a spin.

Lloyd Banks – Any Girl (feat. Lloyd)

    August 16th, 2010

The video a lot of Banks fans have been waiting for is finally here. I’ll be the first to admit I preferred the original solo version with just Banks but let’s face it Lloyd has the potential to make this a crossover type of record. While I don’t think this clip is anything ground breaking, it will most definitely get played on the video channels. Speaking of which, it just made its video debut on MTV Jams just earlier today. As you probably already know, G-unit artists, Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks just signed deals with EMI. It’s looking like Hunger For More Pt. 2 might finally come out this November. I don’t think Yayo will ever put up decent numbers but I could definitely see the PLK putting up Fabolous numbers with the right promotion. For all of y’all looking to catch up on the latest Lloyd Bank’s tracks don’t forget to check Knuckles’ Lights Camera Packin mixtape here.

    Single of the Week #33

    August 14th, 2010

This week’s single is from Minneapolis hip hop group, Atmosphere. It’s a promo song for their upcoming To All My Friends tour. If you don’t have the tour dates you can check them out here. I’ve just recently started getting into Atmosphere. Their last album, When Life Gives You Lemons was one of my favorite albums of 2008. They are definitely a group to lookout for. They never seem to disappoint, they just seem to get better.
