About the Bike Dump

The Bike Dump is a community bicycle shop in Winnipeg. We are all-volunteer, and offer

  • Tools and space to fix your bike
  • A stock of recycled bike frames and parts to build yourself a bike from
  • Volunteers to help guide you through your repairs or project
  • Recycled bicycles sold on a sliding scale
  • Monthly bicycle repair workshops

We appreciate

  • Donations of old bikes, bike parts, tools, or money
  • Volunteer time, either helping others with bike questions, tearing apart and building up bikes for the space, help coordinating fund-raisers, working on the space, or whatever

We strive

  • To make cycling and repair knowledge accessible far and wide
  • To organize ourselves transparently, democratically, and non-hierarchically
  • To offer creative alternatives to auto dependency and its consequences, i.e. Iraqi civilians killed by cluster bombs, rapid depletion of the resource the economy rests on, urban sprawl, lack of exericise, of community, and on and on.

Wednesday, February 17 - Bottoms Brackets - Learn how to adjust and replace the ball-bearings between your pedals.
Wednesday, March 17 - Headsets - Learn how to adjust and replace the ball-bearings around your forks.
Wednesday, April 21 - Deraileurs - Learn how to adjust your gears.

If you have an idea/request for a workshop, or if you would like facilitate a workshop (you don’t need to be a regular Bike Dump volunteer to do this), please contact Matt. Possible future workshop topics include: brakes, coaster hubs, shifters and derailleurs, internal 3-speed hubs, frame painting, cargo bikes, DIY bike trailers, safe urban riding skills, winter cycling, stems, handlebars and seat posts, cranks and chainrings, BMX bikes, generator lights . . . .  Let us know what you want to learn!
