'You've left your children home alone with a paedophile'

  • Woman unaware partner was pervert
  • Man raped her 10-year-old daughter
  • Not the first time he infiltrated a family

TO the unsuspecting young mother he was the man who promised a bright new future for her and her daughter.

They fell in love and she had three more children.

It was only when she was in hospital with complications with her pregnancy late last year that a DOCS caseworker told her: "You have left your children home alone with a paedophile."

The woman checked herself out of a hospital in the NSW Mid-North Coast only to discover her now 10-year-old daughter from a previous relationship had been raped by the pervert.

The woman said DOCS, initially called in to investigate her for allegedly yelling at her toddler, then removed all four children on the grounds that she had failed to protect them from a sex offender.

It was not the first time the man, while on the child protection register, had moved in with a woman and abused her daughter. His last victim was just 13 months old when he committed an act of indecency on her.

absolutely partners have the right to be informed of that type of history. How could we as a society accept anything less. The risk for these innocent kids is entirely unacceptable. much of the problem with paedophilia and instances of child sexual abuse is the secrecy that veils the offenders... they have no right at all to have their actions veiled once convicted. what rational, civilised person would think otherwise??

My mother knew my stepfather was raping me from the age of 9. When i was a teen i reported it to the police. My mother defended him and is still married to him after many years. The police "lost" the files so nothing was ever done about even though i was looked at by doctors in 2 states. Im now an adult and still have nightmares about it. As for my "mother" i hardly speak to her.

I strongly believe that a mother should be told that her partner is a sex offender, if it is known. It is totally unfair if they don't. Peofophiles don't deserve to be protected

Its about time the interest of kids went first and we forget about the privacy of convicted child offenders.

This is why the public needs to know who is on the sex offenders register. Why protect the criminals, if you hide their acts from the world and then shelter them when they reoffend what punishment do they actually serve. Let them and their crimes be known to all at least then, if nothing else , we can protect our own childen from these sick bastards.

To be fair to this woman, she was unaware that her partner was a paedophile. When she found out she tried to do something. It's not like these lower lifeforms wear a tattoo on their foreheads stating their sexual preference (but that might not be such a bad idea). Imho it's long past time that these fiends receive anything less than whole of life jail terms once convicted. That way they can't get out and re offend. It's also time to tell the bleeding hearts, do gooders and for that matter some doctors that paedophiles can't be rehabilitated, that like someone carrying a highly contagious and deadly disease that for the sake of the rest of society that they must never be allowed back into it again. Hard but whose rights come first, the children or the paedophiles. I know which I would put first.

  • Nikkopen Posted at 7:27 AM Today

Until we take away the privacy protections from paedophiles they will continue to abuse children without the fear of being found out or retribution. You can't give a child back it's innocence and there should be a "life" sentence for such offences.

  • David P of Melb Posted at 7:29 AM Today

Shouldn't this be one of the main reasons for the sex offenders register? It is not supposition and rumour - they ARE convicted perverts. At least give them a warning, then the partner chooses how to deal with it.

  • Craig of Sydney Posted at 7:30 AM Today

This type of predatory child sexual abuse is the worst kind. This scumbag should get life but the judicary in this country is so soft he will probably serve another few years and then get out and do it all again.

Where do DOCS get off telling mum "she had failed to protect them from a sex offender" if she had no idea?? Yes - partners have EVERY right to know. This man (and all the other offenders) should be locked up.

    Comment 15 of 37

  • Steve of Melbourne Posted at 8:13 AM Today

It should be required that all sex offenders inform anyone they are living with out their criminal past. Even if they are not in a relationship it is still relevant to people who think children are safe in their own home.

  • C.Wade of Melbournw Posted at 8:15 AM Today

How could she protect her children from a sex offender, when she did not know he was?? Maybe if she had been told.......the young girls life would not be in ruins.

Untrusting - you are not alone. It's never too late for counselling, and you have the right to sleep peacefully at night. Your mother failed you miserably, but you will find you have amazing inner strength and courage to get through this.

"by law I cannot confirm or deny the identity of anybody on the child protection register" - what an oxymoron! How does it protect children if you can't identify someone on it!!!!!!! Bloody useless.

  • observer of Sydney Posted at 8:26 AM Today

Just because some woman becomes a mother doesn't mean she knows what she is doing. There are so many women who put the interests of the man before their own children. Like the woman who left the comment that her breasts were for her partner, not for some baby to feed off. That is the type of woman who should never be allowed to have children. We need a register of all convicted sex offenders. So what if vigilante groups go after them, this, in my opinion, is a good thing.

  • Johnboy of Canberra Posted at 8:30 AM Today

Totally agree with Sean. Children need to be protected from these sicko's. Adults are meant to be a role model for children and these people certainly are not.

  • Phill Posted at 8:36 AM Today

Convicted sex offenders forfeit the right of privacy. To often these days they talk of the rights of criminals, what about the rights of the innocent.

  • Kevin of Melb Posted at 8:41 AM Today

Why was this guy free anyway? He already committed multiple offences before, so why let him out to do more harm. These guys need permanent locking-up, not temporary.

    Comment 24 of 37

  • Sal of Sydney Posted at 8:59 AM Today

Why can't we have the name of this pervert published when he already has an established record on committing similar offences? There is something seriously wrong when the law protects the perverts but not the children. Right now I am completely disgusted.

  • Trudy of Port Melbourne Posted at 9:00 AM Today

Any person who commits a crime gives up their rights to privacy the minute that crime is commited. Why do we continually let the children suffer?

What good is the Register if it is only available to a select few? It should be publically available in order to protect who it is designed to protect in the first place!

  • This is ridiculous of Perth Posted at 9:21 AM Today

What's the point in having a bloody register if only certain police can look at it? I thought the idea of the register was to help prevent this sort of thing happening, and protect people from these animals, but clearly that's not the case.

  • Medusa Knows of Banana Republic Posted at 9:40 AM Today

Was he on parole at some stage? Why didn't P&P; inform his partner of the facts? The blame for this tragic situation can be placed at several govt. doorsteps. Unbelievable. I hope this woman's children are returned to her ASAP.

My 2 young children were being sexually abused by their father. The day my 5 yeasr old daughter told me, I went to the police. They thought my daughter was too young to testify, so he was never charged. 2 1/2 years & $20,000 later I'm still fighting in Family Court to prevent my children having to see their father. My daughter is now 8 and talking about killing herself. My 6 year old son is having trauma related learning difficulties. The NSW Health child & family psychology unit won't see us because they don't deal with families involved in Family Court proceeedings. Every service we get refered to says they can't help us either because of Family Court or being they don't deal with sexually abused children. The toll that this has taken on the kids & I is incredible. The sad thing is, that the kids father isn't even on the sex offender register because he wasn't charged & convicted. For all I know, he has another child by now or is living with someone elses kids. The whole system is a disgrace.

My 9 year old daughter was sexually abused by a family friend, his wife knew what he was doing to my daughter (& his own daughters) & did nothing. When my daughter finally told me (he used threats of violence against us to silence her) & we went to the police, I was made to feel like the criminal. His wife allowed him to return home after he got out of prison 12 months later. I think anybody who knows of these crimes and protects these creatures should be charged as well!

Privacy isn't something you just chop and change when you feel like it. Everyone has the right to privacy, even criminals. Blame the individual, not the system.

  • Punish them of Canberra Posted at 9:59 AM Today

I wish the laws were more stricter on crimes committed against children. Imprisonment for the rest of their life or just throw them away in an uninhabited island.
