Kanye West will always be in the news. Even with all the hoopla that went down with his obnoxious Taylor Swift interruption, he and his ego had no problem climbing back up the charts and into the headlines. Proving he’s a better marketing strategist than M.I.A., the unveiling of each new song off of the upcoming album has already gotten generally positive reviews.
We may have been bombarded by his excessive updates since he has decided to take over Twitter. However, each step from an impromptu performance at the Facebook and Twitter headquarters to releasing a fresh cut with Beyoncé and Charlie Wilson to debuting yet another new song last night with John Legend and company has only boosted his presence online. Oh yeah, and that Bon Iver collab everyone has been talking about? It’s been confirmed.

Billboard reports today that Deryck Whibley, frontman for pop-punkers Sum 41, was the victim of an unprovoked attack on Thursday, August 5th during the band’s visit to Japan. And now, as a result of the attack, which aggravated Whibley’s previous slipped disc injury, Sum 41 has been forced to cancel five Warped Tour appearances.

It’s a good week when the #1 album on the charts is by none other than deserving band, Arcade Fire. Eminem came in a close second but The Suburbs is just too hot to be be pushed down right now.
Many fans are certainly happy about this as well as other Merge Records artists such as Spoon, who congratulated Arcade Fire via Twitter. Besides the fact that we’ve been waiting a long time for this third studio album to come out and that awesome Madison Square Garden concert YouTube stream, there are a lot of factors that could have helped the Montreal-based band out. If you’re one for bargain prices, your purchase of their album on Amazon for $3.99 may have helped boost their rank on the charts – but was it worth it?

If you got a style, you should stick with it and that’s what the Minneapolis-based band, Velvet Davenport does. Led by Parker Sprout, the band can best be described as a mix between incredibly bizarre and 60s psychedelia. Velvet Davenport has a handful of album out in the market, but just some months ago released their acid-pop-esque record Get Out.
It was the Winter of 2007 when these boys decided to come together. Velvet Davenport seems to be a bit absent in the internet, but they’re a great band who really evoke the spirit of the 60s, not only in their music, but also their music videos (which you can watch below) and their overall look. Not to mention that Sprout’s vocals are beautiful. Check out the Velvet Davenport in our BeatCrave Fav series below…

Because his arrogant and, more often than not, misguided public displays of hyper-ego (or, as he calls it, “talking”) don’t hit us fast enough, Kanye West has finally taken to Twitter, a site that allows his insipid megalomania to take shape in 140-character bursts. And, according to MTV, West made the move because, quite simply, traditional journalism cannot capture how funny he is:
