Lovett 'raped sleeping woman'

A MODEL allegedly raped by former St Kilda footballer Andrew Lovett thought she was having sex with one of his teammates after a night spent drinking with several players, a court has heard.

On the first day of Lovett's committal hearing, Melbourne Magistrates' Court heard the alleged victim told St Kilda's Jason Gram and a female friend that Lovett, 27, raped her inside Gram's apartment.

In a police statement tendered in court yesterday, Gram said the alleged victim was inconsolable and told him: "He f...ed the s... out of me. I feel like a slut. I thought it was you. It was the dark guy. I had no interest in him whatsoever."

The court heard she told her friend that Lovett said "Why not? You're a sexy bitch" during the alleged bedroom assault.

"She was curled up in the foetal position, crying and in a hysterical state," the female friend told police.

Lovett is contesting two counts of rape.

The court heard he told Gram the sex was consensual.

The preliminary hearing was told the alleged victim and her friend, who cannot be identified, met several St Kilda footballers - including Lovett, Gram and captain Nick Riewoldt - at the Royal Saxon Hotel on the night of December 23 last year.

After a few drinks, the women and Lovett travelled with Gram in a taxi to his Port Melbourne apartment.

2"At this point (my friend) was asking for water, and I just wanted to get her home," the alleged victim's friend says in her tendered statement.

"Andrew said they had plenty of water back at Jason's house, and that they would look after her.

"As he was so persistent, I decided we would go with them for a short time, get (my friend) sobered up, and then take her back to my place."

The court heard the intoxicated woman was placed fully clothed on Gram's bed.

Gram said in his statement that she then asked him to stay with her and kissed him - before her female friend and Lovett walked in.

The friend said she tried to get the young woman up but could not move her.

2"It was clear that she was extremely drunk and to get her out of there in that state would have been very difficult."

The friend told the court that she later found the woman away from the bed, crying in a foetal position and demanding to leave.

The alleged victim later told her friend: "I was asleep and he raped me ... I kept saying no."

2Gram said he confronted Lovett and told him the woman was accusing him of rape. But he denied calling Lovett a "dog".

"Andrew went to the ground and sat down," Gram told police.

"He said, 'This is f---ed. I would never do that."

The court heard Lovett later sent a message to teammate Sam Fisher, swearing that he would never rape a woman.

The committal hearing, before magistrate Jelena Popovic, continues.
