Farewell shoppers

Sophie Elsworth – Thursday, April 01, 10 (02:41 pm)

Hello shoppers,

Well today I am signing off from my short stint blogging on every woman’s favourite topic - shopping. Thank you for all your feedback and I hope you’ve enjoyed my posts.

Amanda Horswill will be filling in for the rest of the month until Paddy Hintz returns from holidays. Have a wonderful Easter and be sure not to eat too much chocolate.

Sophie

P.S Make sure to go hunting for discounted eggs after Easter, there’s always great bargains!

Cheap happy snaps only 10c each

Sophie Elsworth – Monday, March 29, 10 (11:29 am)

Hello guys,

Well I spent a chunk of my weekend time processing digital prints that have been sitting on my camera for far too long. It always pays to shop around before rushing off the process your latest happy snaps.

At Big W on the weekend I paid 15 cents each for 6 inch by 4 inch prints. However today I see there’s a much better deal with 10 cent prints available at Harvey Normal until April 11. This includes online orders and in store too.

Definitely a good idea to rush to the camera store to finally print off all those photos from months ago.

Rugging up for winter

Sophie Elsworth – Friday, March 26, 10 (11:46 am)

Hi guys,

Well I’m back in Brisbane after covering Cyclone Ului up north, however shoppers I’m only blogging for a few more days before I go away on annual leave. It’s a shame I haven’t been able to blog more often but I’ve spent most of March out of the office covering floods and storms.

After checking out a range of Easter sales that are hitting Queensland stores, one that has captured my attention is the Kathmandu sale. With the cooler weather starting to kick in, it’s certainly time to start hunting around for some bargains. Kathmandu have up to 60 per cent of a great range of clothing.

Check it out - http://www.kathmandu.com.au

Happy shopping!

Pretty white desk

Sophie Elsworth – Thursday, March 18, 10 (10:49 am)

image

I’ve been on the hunt for a pretty white desk and after months of searching I think I’ve finally found one.

It’s called the Charleston desk and it’s only $129 from Officeworks. 1200mm W x 600mm D x 740mm H.

It’s got a smart white finish and isn’t too bulky either. It comes with one drawer and has a 12 month warranty. Definitely worth checking out. I’ve been told Super A-Mart also has some bargain desks too.

Ben Sherman bargains

Sophie Elsworth – Wednesday, March 17, 10 (04:04 pm)

One of my favourite fashion labels is Ben Sherman. Got to love it when you pluck one of their pretty pink t-shirts from the rack with a $59.95 price tag, only to find when you reach the checkout that the price has been substantially slashed.

There was no reduction shown on the price tag, but when the shop assistant scanned the barcode she happily informed me the t-shirt was marked down to $41 and then there was another 50 per cent off that, so I got it for $20.50.

Myer are advertising 30 per cent off all full-priced women’s clothing by Ben Sherman and numerous other labels. Check out their sale at the moment, there’s some great buys.

Pack your bags

Sophie Elsworth – Wednesday, March 17, 10 (10:10 am)

Hi guys,

With the Easter holidays edging closer, finding a good luggage bag is essential. Myer has 40 per cent off all Antler luggage until Sunday, March 21. That’s a steal.

A 70cm Translite large suitcase was $289 and is now just $169. It’s worth checking out this sale, because the last thing you want is your luggage bags falling apart as you grab them off the baggage carousel.

Got to love a Country Road sale

Sophie Elsworth – Tuesday, March 16, 10 (12:23 pm)

As a self-confessed Country Road addict, receiving an email that there’s a mid-season sale is a good enough excuse to get me in the door.

For VIP cardholders the trendy label is offering 20 per cent off everything on Wednesday, March 17 between 8am and 9pm at all Qld stores. (But make sure to check individual store times, some vary.)

Then on Thursday, March 18 there’s 50 per cent off selected items. Love it! See you there!

(And thanks to Jess of West End for pointing this ripper sale out too!)

We all love cheap flights - how to find them

Sophie Elsworth – Tuesday, March 16, 10 (11:29 am)

Hello guys,

You may have been wondering why there has been no shopping blog for the past two weeks. I’ve been marooned in Cunnamulla in western Queensland covering the floods, but I’m back on deck now and ready to chat away on what’s hot and what’s not in the world of shopping.

Something that bugs me greatly is the promotion of cheap flights by airline giants.  Snapping up bargain airfares is something I’m certainly yet to master.

No frills airline Jetstar is slashing airfares by up to 40 per cent on both domestic and international flights. But be sure to read the fine print. Forget grabbing a cheap flight during the Easter break or taking dozens of kilos of luggage with you. It’s for travellers who can only fit in a couple of pairs of undies and one pair of heels into the minuscule carry-on bag!!

There are still some good flight deals around if you’re not planning to travel during peak holiday times. Budget airline Tiger Airways is offering $68 flights (conditions apply) each way from Brisbane to Melbourne from May 1 to June 30. Hello, that’s a steal.

A farewell, for now

Paddy Hintz – Thursday, February 25, 10 (12:55 pm)

Dear guys,

Just a short note to let you know I won’t be around for a little while. I’ve got some accrued leave to take and Sophie Elsworth will be stepping in during my absence.

I’ll be back at the end of April.

But in the meantime, I’ll be missing the little nuggets of gold that regularly land in my in-tray in the form of your comments.

In the double life that I lead as a reporter for the news pages of The Courier-Mail and as a contributor to this blog, the blog has proved to be a valuable resource for the stories that we write for the paper.

You guys have taught me a lot about shopping. It’s been heaps of fun. See you in a little while.

Anthropologie is here . . . kind of

Paddy Hintz – Thursday, February 25, 10 (08:52 am)

image

You can all start lining up to thank me now.

Surely, this can’t be a coincidence?

Earlier this week, lured on by Sarah at A Beach Cottage and her post about what she would buy from Anthropologie’s sale if she could, I sent the company an email.

“Dear Anthropologie,’’ I wrote, “You forgot to include Australia in the countries which you will ship to!’’

And this cheeky little email (I’m even starting to sound like Sarah from A B C), got a response which landed just this morning.

“Dear Paddy,’’ wrote Anthropologie, or more correctly Casey Doyle. “The wait is over!  Anthropologie.com is now shipping to Australia.  Please visit our international site for currency and shipping information.’’

So go your hardest. The bad news? It appears the sale is over. And there’s another catch, the shipping fees.

I couldn’t find the sale Sarah was mooning over, but I did discover a bedding sale.

To my eternal frustration, the window wouldn’t load on my computer at home. You can try by going here.

But I did discover this shadowed vine scarf, above, which is $A32.73 and would go nicely with the shade of grey Sarah is developing over at her cottage. (I am sounding like a blog stalker, aren’t I?)

I pretended to buy and the shipping fees came in at $44.70 and the total spend was calculated at checkout as $77.40.

Go here if you still want to buy.

Value doesn't have to mean cheap but those sale signs sure do help. The first step to getting value is being informed, so this site is for shoppers who love to share.
