How can I make the text on this site bigger?

Some users may find increasing the text size within their browser makes reading pages easier. There are A+ and A- icons on story pages which will adjust the font size of the story body. These buttons will not work if you have disabled Javascript in your browser.

You can also change the default text size and zoom level in most browsers. This can be done on any web page, including the one you are viewing now. Many browsers use a "zoom" feature rather than a "text resize" feature. Zoom differs from text resize in that it changes the size of all content, not just text. Many users find this zoom is more useful than text resize.

To change text and zoom settings in your browser:

  • In Internet Explorer 7 and 8, you can use the Page Zoom feature:
    • In IE7 click Tools then Zoom.
    • In IE8 click Page then Zoom.
    • Alternatively, hold down the Ctrl key and at the same time, push the - or + key.
    • Alternatively, hold down the Ctrl key and scroll the mouse wheel (if you have one).
  • Internet Explorer 6 has very poor text handling capabilities; if you have issues with text size we recommend upgrading to IE8 or switching to another browser.
  • In Firefox, click the View menu, then select Zoom and then choose whether you would like to zoom in or out by one step. You can repeat this process to zoom in/out further.
    • Alternatively, hold down the Ctrl key and at the same time, push the - or + key.
    • Alternatively, hold down the Ctrl key and scroll the mouse wheel (if you have one).
  • In Safari, click the View menu then click Make Text Bigger or Make Text Smaller
  • In Opera, click the View menu, select< Zoom and then choose your desired zoom level.
    • Alternatively, press Plus (hold Shift and press the = key) to increase the page zoom, or press the minus key (-) to reduce the page zoom.
    • Alternatively, hold down the Ctrl key and scroll the mouse wheel (if you have one).
  • In Chrome, click the Page icon, go to the Zoom menu and use the larger/normal/smaller options to change the zoom level. You can repeat this process to zoom in/out further.
    • Alternatively, hold down the Ctrl key and at the same time, push the - or + key.
    • Alternatively, hold down the Ctrl key and scroll the mouse wheel (if you have one).
  • In Netscape, click the View menu, then select Text Zoom and then choose the size you would like (the default is 100%).
    • Alternatively, hold down the Ctrl key and at the same time, push the - or = key.
