BURMA: FREE ZARGANAR

As stars of the comedy world gather for this year’s Edinburgh Festival, one of Burma’s most popular comedians remains behind bars. Zarganar was sentenced to 35 years in prison in 2008 for criticising the Burmese government’s handling of Cyclone Nargis, and for his independent efforts to help victims of the disaster. His health is poor and his family has been banned from visiting him.
