The Net Goes Crazy for Sharks
It's Shark Week on the Discovery Channel (they've posted their Top 10 Shark Attack Videos!), and bloggers are going a little shark-crazy. "Shark Week appeals to everyone's need to be thrilled, chilled and see blood spilled, not to mention indulging an inherent fear of monsters," notes Jaunted. Neatorama takes a look at the "weirdest sharks," including the megamouth: "There have been only 41 confirmed sightings, including one last year in which a megamouth was caught and eaten by fishermen in the Philippines. See a video of a live megamouth at YouTube." Luxist rounds up tooth-inspired jewelry. And Contextures has actually come up with "handy Excel functions you can use in case of a shark attack. Of course, if you stay home and watch television, you should be safe. The infamous land shark rarely attacks."
New Don: Mad Men Season 4 (Spoilers!)
Bloggers are buzzing about last night's season 4 premiere of Mad Men, and the creation of the new ad agency, Sterling, Cooper, Draper, and Pryce (SCDP). Don Draper is no longer living with Betty, but "even in an apartment, Don has a maid," points out Unlikely Words. "Last night's episode found Draper and his team struggling to craft their new image, outmaneuver larger firms, and execute on all the other details that a small business needs to survive," says Business Insider, listing five small business lessons from the new season of the series. Don't Eat the Shrimp has lessons for people working in PR: "Don Draper is serving as the 'face,' of the agency. He's out doing interviews with trade publications and isn't happy about it. The best spokesperson isn't always the first pick. If someone isn't up to the task, find a better face. Roger Sterling has incredible one-liners, but I don't think he's the face you want, and Bert Cooper isn't exactly friendly. Lane Pryce might be the man here."
