Maybe it’s just a function of the kind of week I’ve had, but I FREAKING LOVE THESE TOYS OF MASS DESTRUCTION.

(They’re da bomb! They’re DY-NO-MIIIIITE!) (I’ll stop now.) (Besides, I just totally dated myself with that “Good Times” reference.)

You can fetch Tuffy grenade, bomb, and dynamite toss toys at Nip and Bones.

Squeeeee!! Guess what we got in the mail??

There, amidst the bills and bank statements and Crate & Barrel catalogs (seriously, we get at least one a day), was a package with a really cool  postage stamp. Inside? A CHOO CHUM!!!

Those of you who read this blog regularly (all 17 of you…) know that I’ve wanted a Choo Chum for a while but couldn’t find them here in the States. Well, our pal Alison from Malton, North Yorkshire was kind enough to send us our very own Pink Vanilla Choo Chum. Alison is from Merry Dogs, Ltd., so you know she knows all about what’s up with our pup friends across the pond.

The toy smells glorious, like cookie batter, and Mingus was a fan.

Thanks, Alison!

I moseyed over to PetSmart this weekend to pick up some glucosamine tabs for Ming and Dizz (good enough excuse, right?), but I was secretly hoping I’d finally get to sneak a peek at the new Martha Stewart Pets line. Ever since hearing that the collection would debut in PetSmart this month, I’ve been eager to take a gander at what Sharkey and Francesca’s mom would come up with.

The collection is far bigger than I thought it would be, complete with bowls, feeders, leashes, collars, clothing, beds, grooming tools, and toys. The design is clean, and the colors are pleasing. In my humble opinion, the highlights of the collection? The grooming tote, waste bag dispensers, crocheted squeaky toys, and super-affordable mattress beds.

Martha Stewart Pets is currently available in-store at select PetSmarts but should be available online soon.

I spent the past few days visiting with family in my hometown. The activities included a trip to a knitting shop with my mom, wherein I discovered there is way more to know about yarn than I could ever imagine or understand. Anyway, next door to the yarn shop was a neat little specialty pet shop (much more my element), but alas, once we had finished Yarn 101 the pet shop was closed. Sad Katherine.

I spied these awesome little balloon-animal toys through the window, but I couldn’t read the label on them. I might have left some handprints on the window glass. My mom might have been embarrassed. Anyway, it was all very frustrating.

BUT! In a totally crazy coincidence (or what Alanis Morissette might erroneously call “ironic”), less than 24 hours later a Twitter friend sent me a link to – craziness – the exact same toys I had spied with my little eye. Pure craziness. I should have known the toys were made by Charming Pet Products,  creators of Henrietta and Earl and Beakham.

Anyway, I want that blue dog. And my mom’s ironically coincidentally going to knit me a blue sweater.

Check out Charming Pets’ Balloon Collection and find stores here.

June 11th. A red-letter day on my calendar for months. The World Cup starts today! I’m totally stoked for a month of suspense, cheers, fist pumps, and multilingual cursing.

La Coupe du Monde. El Copa Mundial. Il Campionato Mondiale. Die Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft.

I know, I know… if we could all just agree to call it futbol we’d be making progress.

Here’s a little roundup of some doggie soccer futbol stuff to get you geared up.

Left to right, by row:

> Orbee-Tuff soccer ball, Barker & Meowsky

> Dog soccer jacket, Five Star Fido

> Adjustable ribbon “Goal” collar, Coley’s Collars

> “Beakham” squeaky chicken, Five Star Fido

> Red Dingo Rush soccer leash, PawsCorp

> Aria soccer collar charm, Baxter Boo

A couple weeks back I posted about Choo Chums and kindly requested that someone send me some from England. Since no one’s come through on that yet (thanks a lot), I’ve found what looks to be a reasonable American substitute: Grriggles’ Chompy Rompers. They’re not quite as cute, not flavored, and don’t have nearly the design aesthetic… but hey – that’s probably what the Brits would say about a lot of American stuff, right?

Fetch Chompy Rompers tugs, bones, drumsticks, rings, and balls at Baxter Boo, Doggie Vogue, and Jake’s Dog House.

Anybody headed to England anytime soon? ‘Cause I’m going to need for you to pick me up some Choo Chums while you’re there.

These 100% nylon chew toys from Rosewood Pet come in chocolate, mint, and vanilla flavors, and have – hello – one of the best dog toy label designs EVER. But apparently they’re sold only in the UK (unless I want to pay redonk online shipping charges). Bugger!

We’ve all got dog toys lying around, and we all need a place to store them, but giant bone-shaped toy boxes don’t necessary fit in with our decor.

Here’s a roundup of a few chic-er alternatives.

1/ vintage metal milk crate – sydg

2/ bamboo wastebasket – the container store

3/ bolmen lidded trash can – IKEA

4/ green leaf fabric bin – marylion

Happy Earth Day, everybody! Dogs totally dig the earth… literally and figuratively, of course. Mine even like to eat it. We’re working on that.

Want to do something extra nice for the earth? Look into the cool hemp toys, leashes, collars, and other gear from Earth Dog.

Hemp is a wonderfully eco-friendly, sustainable, renewable material that just so happens to make super-durable dog gear, too. And noooooo, we’re not talking about Cheech and Chong kind of stuff here.  Hemp is the soft (but strong) fiber from the Cannabis plant that has no illicit use — but is grown pesticide- and herbicide-free, is 100% biodegradable, and could produce enough energy to end the U.S.’s dependence on fossil fuels. Whoaaah, maaan… that’s heavy.

Learn more about hemp’s goodness and check out more hempy dog gear at Earth Dog (a carbon-neutral company).
