This made the rounds a week or so ago, but I’m still laughing at it.

At a recent Northwest Arkansas Naturals game, a local shelter pup was being featured as the “Adoptable Pet of the Game.” During the game, the pup gets loose, and hilarity ensues… as does pooping.

Poop ain’t pretty.

But your poop bags sure can be.

Fancy Business Bags (or the slightly more modest DogBag Duffels) are available from Doggie Walk Bags, a family-owned company in Costa Mesa, CA. These 100% biodegradable, odor-neutralizing bags feature convenient tie handles for easy, mess-free closure.

Fetch them at dogbag.com.

Let’s be honest here — or, as my 5th-grade teacher used to say, let’s get down to brass tacks. Having a dog isn’t always roses and candy canes. There’s their knack for puking *first thing* in the morning, a sound that will propel you out of bed with the force and speed of a pack of 12-year-old girls at a Justin Bieber sighting. And then, of course, there’s the standing in torrential downpours waiting for them to do their biznezz. And then, of course, there’s the biznezz. Yep, we’re talkin’ poop.

I saw Poop-Freeze on Daily Candy yesterday and considered it my doggy-blogging duty to share it with you. Poop-Freeze (with the slogan “Just frost and toss”) magically turns liquified poo (ugh) solid (ugh) for easy disposal (ugh).

You’re welcome.

You can fetch Poop-Freeze (which contains no CFCs) from Healthypets.com. And check this link to see all 12 of Daily Candy’s “Dog Accessories Worth Barking For” (featuring phetched favorites Get Lick’d, Scutte, and Doca Pet)

I’m a mature, sensible, grown woman.

There’s no reason I should find this funny.

But it is.

I have mixed feelings about Port-A-Poo poop bag holders. On one hand, I think they’re unbelievably brilliant. The Port-A-Poo clips to your dog’s leash to hold “used” poop bags on a walk, leaving your hand free (and keeping the stink as far away from your nose as possible).

portapoo01

On the other hand, I’m completely disgusted with myself, ’cause I totally thought of a similar idea a few years back. Ahh, well. Guess I’ll have to make my million some other way.

See how Port-Poo-Works, look for a retailer or order, and learn about the awesome family that totally beat me to the punch here.

(And thanks to our pal Morgan (well, actually his mom) for tellin’ us about Port-A-Poo!)

UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed.

You might have noticed our little tag line up there, “Where form and function meet Fido.” We love dog stuff, and we love great design. Every once in a while we stumble across a dog product where both form and function come together to produce something… well, pretty @#&$ing great. (Cue music crescendo…)

A while back the folks over at Bamboo Pet asked if we’d take a look at their new Silicone Travel Bowl (or Bol de voyage en silicone, if vous parlez Francais) and let y’all know what we think. Sure, I said, but we’re tough! We’re ruthless! We can make or break you! (Actually, I pretty much just gushed my thanks and waited eagerly for the package to arrive.)

bambootravelbowl001

Upon its arrival, we subjected the bowl to rigorous testing, which basically included determining the answer to two questions: 1) Does it look cool? and 2) Does it work?

Having analyzed our data, I can honestly say that this bowl is one of the best dog products I’ve run across in a while, and I’m not just saying that ’cause the nice Bamboo people sent it for free. (Please send more free stuff… please send more free stuff…)

Made of fun and bendy silicone, the Bamboo Travel Bowl collapses to less than a half-inch thick, making it easily transportable in a bag, pocket, on your head, wherever. It’s dishwasher safe and comes in two sizes (1 cup and 3 cup, which we tried) and three colors (blue, pink, and green).

In the interest of full disclosure, the only issue we encountered in our “testing” was Mingus’ insatiable desire to try to tip the bowl over with his paw, but that’s more a testament to the fact that my dog can be kind of a jerk than a complaint against the bowl itself.

So… how ’bout it? Would you like to have a Bamboo Silicone Travel Bowl of your very own? You can find a store near you here, or buy it online here… OR you could leave a comment below by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 5th to be entered to win a FREE 3-cup green travel bowl courtesy of Bamboo Pet and phetched! We’ll even throw in a handy Bamboo waste bag dispenser for your dog’s leash, ’cause we love y’all that much.

U.S. entries only, please. Contest entry deadline is 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 5th. Winner will be chosen by random drawing and announced Monday, July 6th. Please provide your correct email address (don’t worry, it won’t be posted) so we can contact you if you win.

Happy Earth Day!

Dogs are natural tree huggers. They appreciate fresh air and the feeling of grass beneath their paws. They reduce household waste by removing select items from the trash can and eating them (later returning said items to the earth in biodegradable form).

Here to help you celebrate Earth Day are some of phetched’s favorite planet-friendly products.

Clean Go Pet Reusable Puppy Pads offer a green alternative for those still struggling with the whole “outside” thing. The heavy-duty material absorbs and holds liquid (up to 8 cups for the large size… whoa) and are machine washable for use again and again for — voila! — less waste (horrible pun intended). Available at PetEdge.

Humans do lots of silly things, but one of the silliest things we do is scoop up 100% biodegradable poop, place it in plastic, non-biodegradable bags, and toss it in a landfill to sit for thousands of years. However, while your dog’s deposit on the sidewalk may break down naturally in a matter of days, your neighbors may not appreciate such “ecological” thinking. Carry along some biodegradable poop bags from poopbags.com (or biobagusa.com) to keep both Mother Earth and Ms. Jones happy. Made from corn and other renewable products, they are 100% biodegradable and break down in a matter of mere weeks.

Burt’s Bees wants to be “the greenest personal care company on Earth,” and they’re working toward that goal by using all natural ingredients, sustainable packaging, and ecologically friendly transport of products. Their Herbal Insect Repellent is DEET-free and safe for use on your furry friends.

And finally, how can you not love West Paw Design’s products?

Their dog beds, such as the Eco Nap, are made using post-consumer recycled materials — a medium-sized Eco Nap keeps 21 plastic soda bottles out of our landfills.

West Paw’s Eco Bones (below) are made of 85% re-engineered recycled materials. And to further prove their commitment to protecting our environment, West Paw offers a unique product recycling program: if your pooch happens to ever destroy the Hurley (below), send it back to West Paw to be recycled, and they’ll send you a free replacement. Now, that’s what I call eco-friendliness with bite.
