  • Participants announced for 2010 Fresh Coast Basketball Classic
    The Fresh Coast Classic Basketball Tournament has announced the participants in their 2010 basketball tournament. Bowie State University (Bowie, MD), Clark-Atlanta University (Atlanta, GA), Johnson C. Smith University (Charlotte, NC) and St. Paul's College (Lawrenceville, VA) will compete for this year’s championship title.

  • WSSU to induct Eight Individuals and 2000 CIAA Championship Football Team into Gaines Athletic Hall of Fame
    The Winston-Salem State University C.E. “Big House” Gaines Hall of Fame will welcome its class of 2010 inductees when eight individuals along with the 2000 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Champion Rams football team will take their place among the WSSU greats.

  • Grambling State names Marcia Oliveira as Head Soccer Coach
    Grambling State University has named Marcia Oliveira as the fourth head coach of the Lady Tigers soccer program, as announced by GSU Director of Athletics J. Lin Dawson.

  • Southern names former Olympian interim track coach
    Southern University has announced that former two-sport athlete and 2008 USA Olympian, Brian Johnson, has been named Interim Head Track & Field Coach.

  • SCSU's Long and Hampton's Sanchez lead All-MEAC Preseason Football Squad; SC State picked on top for Third Straight Year
    South Carolina State’s Malcolm Long and Julio Sanchez of Hampton earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC) top football preseason awards, as announced by the conference on Friday afternoon at the Norfolk Marriott Hotel.

  • St. Aug's Copeland selected D-II Scholar Male Field Athlete of the Year
    Talented high jumper Christopher Copeland (Rising Junior/Suffolk, Va.) of Saint Augustine’s College was named Division II scholar male field athlete of the year for the 2010 indoor track and field season Friday by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

  • Shaw names Douglas Hunter Volleyball Coach
    Shaw University has announced that it has hired Douglas Hunter as Head Volleyball Coach. Hunter most recently served as volleyball coach for Winston-Salem State.

  • Kim Young leaves Grambling to become New Orleans head volleyball coach
    University of New Orleans interim athletic director Amy Champion has announced the hiring of Kim Young as the school's new head volleyball coach.

    • (8/2/10) Grambling State has named Marcia Oliveira as the fourth head coach of the Lady Tigers soccer program.
    • (7/30/10) Southern University has named Brian Johnson as interim head track & field coach. He takes over after the resignation of interim head track coach, Tinnequo Lightfoot-Ross.
    • (7/29/10) Kim Young, head volleyball coach at Grambling, has been named the head coach of the University of New Orleans volleyball program.
    • (7/29/10) Shaw University has hired Douglas Hunter as head volleyball coach
    • (7/23/10) Voorhees College has named Michael Cheaney as head men's basketball coach. Cheaney was formerly an assistant coach at Livingstone.
    • (7/22/10) Tennessee State University has hired Jeff Dabney as the new head softball coach. Dabney will be the fourth softball coach for the Tiger softball program
    • (7/19/10) Tinnequo Lightfoot-Ross has resigned as interim track coach at Southern University. She had just completed her 10th year at Southern and her first as interim head track & field coach. She took over the program after the long illness, and death of long-time SU Track Coach, Johnny Thomas. She previously served as an assistant coach for eight years.
