'The Green Hornet' trailer debuts despite Jimmy Kimmel's power outage

Greenhornet2

On Monday night, the cast and filmmakers behind "The Green Hornet" unveiled the first-ever trailer for Sony's upcoming 3D action hero pic at Mann Chinese 6 in Hollywood.

On hand for the media-only presentation were star Seth Rogen, director Michel Gondry, writer Evan Goldberg and producer Neil Moritz.

"We really wanted to make sure it portrayed the real feel more than anything," Rogen told the audience. "And I'm sure you all know a million times more about the Green Hornet than 99% of the people who will be seeing this trailer."

Following a brief Q&A, Rogen was supposed to then run next door and introduce the "Hornet" trailer on Jimmy Kimmel Live! but the late night talk show was having technical difficulties so the teaser never aired on ABC. (The 12:45AM ET online launch of the trailer, however, was still kept.)

Based on the popular 1960s TV show, "The Green Hornet" tells the story of a playboy heir (Rogen) to an L.A. newspaper fortune who resorts to fighting crime against the city's evil dwellers. Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz and Jay Chou also star.

Sony's 3D action-comedy hits theaters on January 14, 2011.

Disney first to sell tickets through Facebook

Toystory_boffo

To infinity...and Facebook?

Disney has unveiled a new ticket application for "Toy Story 3" that allows Facebook users to purchase movie tickets on the social networking site.

Dubbed Disney Tickets Together, the Facebook application gives users the opportunity to order tickets in advance for the Pixar film, which then alerts friends and followers of the purchase. The social networking experiment, the first of its kind, could essentially change the way Hollywood sells tickets online.

Facebook_boffo Dan Rose, Facebook's VP of partnerships and platform marketing, tells the New York Times, “What Disney is doing moves beyond just creating awareness to using the platform to acquire customers directly,” Rose said. “This is the first time that a movie studio has tried this, which we think makes a lot of sense because moviegoing is one of those activities that is inherently social.”

Toystory_poster_boffo According to the Times, Disney unveiled the new application May 26 on the "Toy Story 3" Facebook page, which currently has over 735,000 fans.

While Fandango.com remains the Internet's most popular destination for online movie tickets, Facebook is the King of the Web with over 500 million users worldwide. Thus, a successful "Toy Story 3" campaign would certainly boost the industry's ties with social network sites in general, not just Facebook; something online marketing execs have been touting as the wave of the future.

And Hollywood could surely use the increased awareness, especially after a dismal Memorial Day weekend, which marked a seventeen year-low for overall ticket purchases.

Let's just see if Facebook users "Like" the new ticket application, first. After all, not every tough guy wants his friends to know about a future date with Buzz Lightyear and Mr. Potato Head.

"Toy Story 3" hits theaters June 18.

Men in Black III takes "Flight" thesp

Clement_jemaine "Flight of the Conchords" star Jemaine Clement is in advanced talks to play one of the villains in Sony's third installment in the Men in Black franchise.

"MIB" marks the third feature film for Clement, who last starred in Jared Hess' "Gentlemen Broncos" and can be seen this summer in Jay Roach's laffer "Dinner for Schmucks" as well as 3D animated pic "Despicable Me."

The New Zealand native joins a cast which already includes MIB vets Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. Josh Brolin is also in talks for the Barry Sonenfeld-directed sequel. Brolin will play a younger version of Agent Kay (Jones).
