Mass Effect 2 getting new DLC weapon pack before Shadow Broker

A few hardcore Mass Effect 2 devotees noticed something off in the media released to promote the game's upcoming DLC pack, "The Lair of the Shadow Broker" -- Commander Shepard and Co. were wielding some heretofore unavailable weaponry. While some assumed the new content would include these future-guns, BioWare community manager Jarrett Lee quickly took to the forums to explain that "they are in fact part of a different pack that will be released prior to Lair of the Shadowbroker."

Lee assured fans that while the guns would be sold apart from the newly announced content, "Lair of the Shadow Broker does, however, contain some *really* cool stuff we haven't revealed yet." We're assuming he's talking about a hideous race of space monsters that can only be killed using ... these new, purchasable guns! Then again, our hearts are cold and calloused.

Street Fighter X Tekken screenshots X-posed

Curious what the cast of Tekken looks like when dipped in Capcom's unique art style for Street Fighter X Tekken (that's pronounced Street Fighter "cross" Tekken, by the by)? Check them out in this batch of screenshots for the mashed-up fighter, posted in the gallery below. ... continue reading.

DC Universe Online preventing the apocalypse Nov. 2

Yesterday's DC Universe Online-centric Comic-Con panel included a whole cornucopia of surprises for attendees (and potential subscribers). For instance, TV and film star Mark Hamill was there, talking about his role as the nefarious, wide-grinned Joker. Also, everyone in the audience got beta keys, which seemed to please them to no end. Also, it was announced the game wouldn't require a PSN+ subscription to play on the PS3 on top of the standard MMO subscription fee, which was also met with rousing applause.

The biggest surprise came from comic writer Jim Lee, who announced that the game would drop on November 2. Sure, we knew it would come at some point during the 11th month, but not two days into it. Why, that's practically late October, if you really think about it.

Preview: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (four new characters)

Dr. Doom, Super Skrull, Chun-Li and Trish joined the cast of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in the Comic-Con show floor preview build; though Thor and Amaterasu didn't make the trip (lazy gods!). I checked out the new characters and chatted with producer Ryota Niitsuma about the latest roster updates.

Of the four, Super Skrull seems to be attracting the most attention at the show. The famous comic book villain has been the hero at Comic-Con, wowing attendees with his Fantastic Four powers: slamming opponents with Thing fists, flaming on with Human Torch fire, and performing an impressive Mr. Fantastic stretch-throw impression. Niitsuma recalled that Skrull's mix of abilities was a tough concoction to brew -- but certainly a potent one in action.

Capcom making online version of Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike

Capcom didn't just announce two Street Fighter games in yesterday's Comic-Con panel -- that would hardly have been worth holding a panel. Producer Yoshinori Ono also announced that the company is working on Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online, an updated re-release of the 1999 arcade/Dreamcast game.

It's "not going to come out in the immediate future," Ono told the crowds already daydreaming about online Q matches, "but just let everyone know that Street Fighter 3 is coming back." He didn't have any more details, simply directing suggestions to Capcom-Unity. It seems relatively safe to assume that an online-focused fighting game is being considered at least for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, probably as a digital release like Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is getting Comic-Conned

Is it just us, or has this year's Comic-Con played host to an unnatural amount of newsworthy video game happenings? New games getting announced, new trailers, new demos -- where did all this come from? Is it possible that this comics-based event has taken a stronger interest in games due to this very feature, which is hosted on a video game website, but focuses exclusively on comics? We're not sure, but we love all the symmetry, regardless.

Below are our seven favorite webcomics from the past week. Check them out, then vote for your favorite in the poll after the jump!

Banana Hoard (Brawl in the Family)
Incognito (Digital Unrest)
Anatomy of a Headshot (Monday Night Crew)
Dat Feature (Nerf Now)
Off Track (Awkward Zombie)
Don't Ask (Virtual Shackles)
Planting a Flag (Penny Arcade)

THQ blames Red Dead Redemption for lower UFC 2010 sales

Last month, THQ reported some not-so-awesome sales figures for its second annual entry into the UFC Undisputed franchise -- to the tune of an almost 50 percent decline from sales for last year's first stab at game-ifying the sport. In a recent discussion with the print version of MCV (via CVG), Jon Rooke, the company's UK marketing director, provided one possible explanation for the decrease: "That's largely down to Red Dead Redemption," Rooke explained.

Though Undisputed 2010 has managed to ship a sizable 2.6 million units, Rooke stated that the title hasn't "delivered the broader sales yet." He added, "Rockstar have probably taken a fair amount of our market share. They shipped 5m units, taking a lot of consumer dollars." We know exactly what he's talking about: We picked up Red Dead Redemption instead of UFC because we heard the former had really great wrasslin' -- but we were unfortunately greeted with hours of rustlin' instead.

DC Universe Online trailer pulls the ol' switcheroo

Actually, you know what? The recently revealed Comic-Con trailer for DC Universe Online pulls two ol' switcheroos -- one you'll realize after watching the video posted below. The other? Well, the other switcheroo is that the trailer is inconceivably, expectation-shatteringly hot. ... continue reading.

British news outlet apologizes for 'Grand Theft Auto: Rothbury' report

A long, stupid story short: British newspaper The Daily Star recently ran a since-pulled article claiming Rockstar Games was working on a game titled Grand Theft Auto: Rothbury, based on the shooting rampage allegedly perpetrated by Raoul Moat earlier this month. The report was based on a shockingly tasteless and obviously Photoshopped box art for the non-existent title -- though the Star ran the report as cold, hard fact, even going so far as to get quotes from the still-grieving family members of the shooting victims.

Rockstar (and, assumedly, its fleet of superhuman lawyers) must have sent some stern words to the outlet, which ran a lengthy retraction (via Rock, Paper, Shotgun) earlier today. In addition to apologizing for the irresponsible report, the paper claims, "we have also agreed to pay them a substantial amount in damages which they are donating to charity." Well, at least something good came out of this situation, we guess.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Six more Rock Band 3 songs (and three for Dance Central!) revealed

As hinted at yesterday by Harmonix's Twitter, a whole gang of tracks were confirmed to be included in Rock Band 3 during the developer's recent Comic-Con panel. These ditties include:
  • "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears
  • "Rock Lobster" by The B-52s
  • "Foolin'" by Def Leppard
  • "Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson
  • "Hey Man, Nice Shot" by Filter
  • "Cold as Ice" by Foreigner
Also, three new tracks were confirmed for Dance Central: "Drop it Like it's Hot" by Snoop Dogg, "Push It" by Salt N' Pepa, and "Bust a Move" by Young MC. Never before has a rhythm game played host to a trio of tracks giving such welcome instructions.
