Giuseppe Zanotti Crystal-Embellished Suede Clutch, Handbag of the Day

suede clutch
Much of the fashion world has re-purposed the 1980's look into clothing and accessories and this particular handbag certainly fits that look. Bold coloring and an exposed zipper harken back to the leggings and punk rocker vibe for me. Featuring cobalt-blue crystals shining atop a black suede backdrop this clutch by Giuseppe Zanotti would pair perfectly with an electric blue mohawk. Embellished with a diagonal zipper cutting through the crystals and a fold-over flap with magnetic fastening, this perky little bag also has an internal pouch pocket and is lined with designer-stamped satin for $930. Options including staying in Class VI - Mountain River's New River Gorge Adventure Resort on the canyon rim of the New River Gorge, or camping at the edge of the New or Gauley River. The resort is over 1,000 acres with luxury vacation homes for rent, a wide variety of WV cabin rentals from rustic to deluxe, and ample private West Virginia campground facilities. Many of the cabins on the Gorge have hot tubs, a different type of white water to soothe away the day's adventures. Check out the Class VI-Mountain River website for more details.

Hum, A New Hibiscus Liqueur

We've seen hibiscus in tequila, now it's getting a starring role in Hum, a new organic rum-based liqueur that is infused with ginger, cardamom, kaffir lime and dried hibiscus flowers. The 70-proof potion is a deep ruby red and has a floral scent with a spicy finish. The blend was created by a pair of mixologists, Adam Seger and Joe McCanta. Suggested recipes include serving it with tonic or a splash of soda or using it in a variety of drinks including a daiquiri, negroni, margarita or mojito. The base spirit is distilled by North Shore Distillery in Chicago. It sells for $36.

Porsche Design P'6612 Dashboard Le Mans 1970 Limited Edition

With 16 overall wins, nobody has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans more times than Porsche. The journey started in 1970 when Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood led a 1-2-3 finish for the German team behind the wheel of the iconic Porsche 917 K. Forty years later, Porsche Design has released a special-edition chronograph to commemorate the occasion in the grandest of style.

Bearing a dial styled after the 917 K's dashboard instruments and offset by the number 23 that adorned the triumphant 917 K and which followed Herrmann throughout his career, the Porsche Design P'6612 Dashboard Le Mans 1970 Limited Edition features an automatic chronograph movement and a tachometer scale around the bezel can be used to calculate overall speed, etched into the brushed and polished titanium case and affixed with a perforated calfskin strap with red topstitching reminiscent of the 917's steering wheel. Only 917 examples will be made, each accompanied by a scale model of the 917 K and a booklet signed by Herrmann and Attwood.

Blacksocks.com, One Less Decision In Your Life

One of the best ways to get a little more time in your day is to automate as many things as possible. It's not the most exciting thing in the world but not having to think about which underwear you are wearing or what you are going to eat for breakfast leaves more brainpower for the important stuff. Helping you along in your automation goal is Blacksocks.com, a company that sells "subscriptions" for underwear, undershirts and yes, socks. The Swiss e-tailer Blacksocks.com has sold over one million socks since starting in 1999 and former World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz is among its customers.

"The target Blacksocks demographic is any man who's looked down to find his toe yawning out of a hole in his sock," said Blacksocks president and founder Samy Liechti. To set it up you select which item you want and how often you want them delivered. So instead of running to the store when your socks gradually get winnowed out due to wear, you don't have to worry, new socks will be on their way. Each sockscription lasts one year and you can choose three, four or six deliveries. A delivery of three pairs of business light black socks every three months costs $95.

Fenom, Absinthe Goes Clear

You've probably heard of absinthe, better known as the green fairy. The legendary herbal potion made its triumphant return to the cocktail world a few years back and since then has found favor with those looking for something a little unusual. A new "modern absinthe" called Fenom recently launched in Miami. The new absinthe is clear, lower-calorie liquor that is offers a more subtle herbal flavor. The lower alcohol content (80 proof/40 percent) and clear consistency are designed to increase drinkability. It has 63 calories per ounce and is made to be enjoyed without the addition of water and sugar, just served straight with ice, but also be used with mixers like soda. A recipe that made the rounds at Miami's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim called the Two Piece combined mint leaves, Fenom, lime juice, a half wheel of orange, simple syrup and ginger ale.

The new blend liquor is handcrafted and distilled at a family-owned facility located in Fougerolles, France, that has produced authentic absinthes for more than 100 years. All natural ingredients, including wormwood, fennel, anise, gentian and mugwort are blended together with natural spring water from the Vosges Mountains. It comes in a sexy mirrored bottle. So far it's only available in South Florida but it's on the move.

Fairfield Concours to Showcase 1939/47 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Vutotal

The star car at this year's Fairfield Concours d'Elegance will wears the Spirit of Ecstasy on her hood and no less ecstatic design all along her body. The 1939/47 Rolls-Royce Phantom III "Vutotal" Cabriolet by Labourdette, now in the John Rich Museum collection, started off as a standard Phantom III designed by Henry Royce. It was re-envisioned by coachbuilder Hooper and Co. in 1938 with a Sedanca de Ville for the chassis, then showed off in Europe before being tweaked for the U.S. market.

When that show car ended up in the Parisian studio of Henri Labourdette in the forties, he threw out everything but the running gear and rebodied the car gold-plating-and-brass-adorned aerodynamic bodywork that swooped back into a boattail. He also got rid of anything that identified it as a Rolls, save for its mascot and a couple of interior trim pieces. The final detail: the Vutotal windscreen, a thick slice of glass that appears to support itself. The conversion cost $44,000 at a time when the average price of a home was about $4,000.

Elsewhere on the Concours docket, featured judging classes will include Porsche, Bugatti, Period Hot Rods and Custom Cars from 1948 – 1964, there'll be regional vintage club gatherings, an auction conducted by RM Auctions, and photographer Jesse Alexander will be the featured artist. The Barn Find category is a new one this year and is still accepting submissions to go with dusty, rusted hulks including the 1949 Willys Panel Wagon and 1961 AC Greyhound. The seventh annual Fairfield Concours opens its lawn on Saturday, September 11, 2010.

Once $40 Million, Mansion Sells For Deep Discount

Sheldon Good & Company has announced the results of a the sale of the Lytle Mansion on Mercer Island in Washington state. We first started watching this home in 2005 when it was listed at a whopping $40 million. The three-story mansion on two acres was put up for sealed bid auction this year. The property sold for $12 million, one of the highest prices for a single-family estate home in the Northwest in 2010. "Our home had been on the market for almost four years without any significant buying interest. Selling had become a dilemma and we realized we had to take a more proactive approach," said Charles Lytle, President of Lytle Enterprises and owner of the Mercer Island estate in a press release.

This home has some incredible details. The indoor saltwater pool has a cloud mural and Egyptian-style columns that have been specially treated to look aged. A Dale Chihuly chandelier spiraling twelve feet of crystal hangs over a marble floor in the entry. The house is full of inlaid stones, marble fireplaces and everything is done on a grand and ornate scale. It has four bedrooms but with nearly 23,000 sq. feet of space much of the space is devoted to waking pursuits. There are two wine cellars, an exercise room, massage and tanning room, music room, steam room, sunroom and a dining room with a gleaming gold leaf ceiling. The master suite has a raised platform bed, a marble fireplace and a bathroom where the tub is set on a pedestal and has a chandelier over it. Outside there is a saltwater pool and 175 feet of waterfront including a boat dock that can accommodate a 140 foot yacht. No word on who the lucky new owner is.
