The Next Avenger is... Red Hulk?!

While the Heroic Age: Avengers panel was extremely light on announcements this year, Brian Michael Bendis and Joe Quesada did solve one small puzzle for the fans--literally. The back pages of certain Marvel comics have been teasing the arrival of a new Avenger in the ongoing "Avengers" series by Bendis and John Romita, Jr. by way of a word puzzle. After the Powerpoint presentation sped by a little too fast, Bendis finally announced that Red Hulk, better known as General Thunderbolt Ross, father of Betty and antagonist of Bruce Banner, is joining the team.

Red Hulk (also known as Rulk) joins the team as a character in need of redemption, which is obvious considering the past two years of fighting and villainy he's gotten down to, and Bendis is also going to give him a place in the greater Marvel Universe. Bendis made it a point to thank Jeph Loeb and Jeff Parker for the use of the character. Loeb is the co-creator of Red Hulk, of course, and Jeff Parker is the front-runner for the new writer on Hulk, as shown by this post on Robot 6.

'Walking Dead' Clip Screening Fan Reactions

As the zombie-loving hordes shuffled out of the first look at AMC's "Walking Dead" at San Diego's Comic-Con earlier today, ComicsAlliance was there to place our fingers on the even metaphorically non-existent pulse surrounding the event.

The consensus? Overwhelmingly positive. If today's clip was any indication, it seems like fans might finally get a good zombie (and a comic book adaptation at that!) show on TV when the series debuts in October.

Click past the jump to catch fan reactions fresh from the convention.

Geoff Johns Announces New Flash Ongoing: 'Flash: Speed Force'

Geoff Johns let slip a bit of good news for fans of the Flash family during this afternoon's DC Nation Special Edition panel. After a fan asked about Bart Allen, Johns asked Dan DiDio if he could spill the beans. Eventually, after a bit of back and forth, Johns just went ahead and took the leap: "Flash: Speed Force" is coming.
Next year, a second ongoing series will debut called "Flash: Speed Force;" This series will feature currently absent Flash-related heroes like Wally West, Bart Allen, Jesse Quick, and XS, Bart Allen's cousin and Barry Allen's granddaughter from the future. There were no other details revealed on the panel, other than the fact that Johns is impatient to get to it, as is apropos of a writer for "The Flash;"

New Video Gives First Look at Upcoming 'Young Justice' Animated Series

"Young Justice" fans got their first clear look at Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment's upcoming animated series today following the "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" panel with a behind-the-scenes video full of new animation.

Featuring YJ producers Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti, the video went far beyond typical teasers, showing off what seems to be completed series footage and providing clear plot information.

A beefy team including Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, Superboy, Miss Martian, Artemis (previously believed to be Arrowette) and even Speedy/Red Arrow are slated to star in the first season. Unlike the YJ comic, however, the teens will act directly under a very present Justice League in a world where Superman has only been around for about ten years.

The producers also hinted at the edgy nature of the show, promising dangerous situations and at least one death in the first season.

Catch the video's behind-the-scenes-look at YJ after the jump.

Grant Morrison Franchises Batman in 'Batman, Inc.' Ongoing Series

In 2006, it was "Batman." In 2009, it was "Batman & Robin," "Return of Bruce Wayne," and "Batman" again. Now, Grant Morrison's run on DC's most popular character enters its fourth year in a comic titled "Batman, Inc." slated for November with frequent Morrison collaborator Yanick Paquette ("Seven Solders: Bulleteer," "Return of Bruce Wayne") , as revealed on the "Batman: The Return" panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
While Grant Morrison kept mum on explaining exactly what the series is about, he did say that he looked to two interesting things for inspiration: "The Brave & the Bold" cartoon and the Johnny DC comic books. He likes seeing Batman teaming up with other people and wants to bring some of that flavor in the new series. Morrison explained that "[i]n '[Batman] R.I.P.' you got to find out what happens when you take Bruce Wayne out of the equation. ['Batman, Inc.'] is what happens when Bruce is more in the equation and what he does with the Batman idea and how he turns it into a franchise... Everything in [Batman's] operation is about to change."

'Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters' Video Game Announced

Most casual comic fans are stoked about DC/Warner Bros. upcoming "Green Lantern" feature film, but the hardcore fans are already looking forward to the merchandise -- in other words, when are we getting action figures, assorted gear and, the mother of all tie-ins, the video game?

Well, the wait -- and it was certainly a short one at that -- is over, Lantern fans, as DC and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have announced the first ever Green Lantern video game, "Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters."

Inspired by the upcoming film staring that dreamy Ryan Reynolds fella, players will wield the Green Lantern Power Ring as Hal Jordan (looks like you're stuck with "Batman: The Brave and the Bold," Guy Gardner fans) and take flight across the universe, battling against horrible alien menaces while restoring order to farthest reaches of space.

Produced by Double Helix, "Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters" is set to hit all major consoles and the Nintendo DS next summer, most likely coinciding with the feature film and hot summer days where all anyone wants to do is stay inside an air conditioned room and mash buttons.

'Thor' Video Game Concept Art and Teaser Trailer from Comic-Con

When Sega announced its "Thor" movie video game earlier this week, we could only guess as to what the game would look like. Now, with a new teaser trailer and a barrage of concept art hanging out at Marvel's San Diego Comic-Con booth, fans can finally get a closer look at the game's - and possibly its film source material's - aesthetic.

While the teaser trailer doesn't reveal much aside from Thor's 3-D rendered back as he surveys a brightly colored expanse, the concept art does explore at least a few of the video game's promised nine worlds from Marvel's Norse mythology. So far fans can catch glimpses of the fiery Muspelheim and its ruler Surtur, the icy Niflheim, and the Vanir's homeland Vanaheim. There's also multiple shots of the city of Asgard, which could shed further light on the look of Thor's homeland from the upcoming film.

X-Men Panel: 'Generation Hope,' Four Wolverine Titles and X-Men Team-ups Coming Soon

Marvel's X-Men panel was full of reveals today. First up: Mutants are back! ...kind of. In the aftermath of "Second Coming," five new lights appeared on Cerebro. There are new mutants to be found out there, and Kieron Gillen is the man tasked with chronicling that story. In November 2010, Gillen is launching "Generation Hope," an ongoing series that features an all-new X-Men team and the introductory saga of the first new mutants in years.
Back in the '90s, well-loved team series "Generation X," featuring such fan-favorites as Chamber and Jubilee, spun out of the Phalanx Covenant and turned a brand new generation of mutants into the latest iteration of the X-Men. This new series will tap that vibe once again, with five brand new mutants who have some as-yet unexplained connection to Hope, the young lady who kicked off "Second Coming." The series is about "five people, who before yesterday, were completely normal" before having their entire lives upended, said "Uncanny X-Men" writer Matt Fraction.
Gillen described the rise of these new mutants as "not an easy thing." Fraction and Gillen are going to very slowly rebuild the mutant population, but it will be a long process - and one not done just because people want to create new characters. The first issue of the "Five Lights" arc in "Uncanny X-Men" hits this Wednesday, and after that wraps, we'll see "Generation Hope" on the stands.
