Take Out is a series of dressers designed by Klaus Aalto in which the drawers are not really drawers at all — they’re actually individual suitcases. The idea was inspired by Aalto’s personal need for a storage solution for his tools. He ended up purchasing a Plasticase after a long search for the perfect briefcase.

Discarded Drawer Dressers by Entwurf-Direkt

German studio Entwurf-Direkt was established in 2001 from the desire to create a shop/event/art venue; a space that could be used both as an art studio and as a shop open to the public providing unusual furniture, exhibitions, lecture series, discussions as well as other events. Their furniture is built in cooperation with a couple of young carpenters and each piece is unique and made in close collaboration with the clients.

In his obsession with nature and ongoing exploration of water, Ilan Dei has created a contrasting collection between well crafted contemporary furniture and urban graffiti. The collection is called Awake Your Inner Vandal, Well Behaved Graffiti in Your Home. Unnoticeable at first glance the graffiti is like a seedy underbelly of the furniture that you can only experience from certain angles and interactions.

Yard Sale Project

Yard Sale Project by Ian Spencer is just one of more than 220 highly talented designer/Makers have been chosen to exhibit at Origin: The London Craft Fair, which will take place September 23-29th during this year’s London Design Festival. This Yard Sale Project Roccapina chair — made from 20 different hardwoods — will be part of the exhibition.

Yard Sale Project describes the work as one-off handmade furniture that aims to break free of traditional designs and constructions with a strong sculptural element.

Laurette is a playful collection of vintage-inspired furniture for children, designed by Laure Bailleux. It is colorful and imaginative, definitely creative enough to stimulate and inspire children (and adults!). The website is currently only in French, but they just started sending press materials in English so I have hopes that they will soon launch an English-translated site.

Atelier Collection by Capo d’Opera

Capo d’Opera’s newest project are ironic hanging storage units that resemble men’s clothing — a tribute to tailoring. The cabinets showcase five different fabrics from Oxford and Madras to Argyle, which represent shirts hand-knit sweaters. The bond that holds the cabinet together is either a zipper or buttons.

China Cabinet by Karolina Tylka

Karolina Tylka created an odd cabinet to store her china pieces. MoCo Loco got a peek at this curious design in which the suspended tableware is held in place by sheets of coated paper. With one version made of MDF, glass and paper and another made only of cardboard and paper, I wonder how safe and secure the china really is floating between sheets of paper?

Circus Shelving by Stephen Burks

The Circus shelving designed by Stephen Burks for MatterMade is a hand-made shelving system inspired by the playfulness of the big top. Each shelving unit includes up to eight colorful wire “cages” that easily plug into the solid oak surfaces, meaning no tools are needed for assembly. The cages create both exterior shelf space and a small interior space where favorite objects can be highlighted.

Lattoog

Lattoog is the brand new furniture design company from designers Leonardo Lattavo and Pedro Moog. Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (an influence that you can see in many of their designs) these two designers have been hard at work the past decade or so collaborating on a variety of beautiful home furnishings, some sleek and modern, others over the top. I have to say that their designs sure are in the spirit of Design Milk!
