Concrete Chesterfield Sofa by Gray Concrete

UK-based Gray Concrete created this concrete Chesterfield sofa for exhibiting at 100% Design London. The sofa is made by taking a mold from a real Chesterfield, which is then used to make a glass textile reinforced casting. The cushions are a part of the casting. Before making the mold, the padding inside the cushions was replaced with a rigid foam which was modeled to make “bum prints.”  The molding techniques used by Gray Concrete pick up detail really well so the concrete sofa really looks leathery. There’s even a concrete 50p piece stuck down behind one of the cushions to complete the realistic effect.

Lattoog

Lattoog is the brand new furniture design company from designers Leonardo Lattavo and Pedro Moog. Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (an influence that you can see in many of their designs) these two designers have been hard at work the past decade or so collaborating on a variety of beautiful home furnishings, some sleek and modern, others over the top. I have to say that their designs sure are in the spirit of Design Milk!

Successful Living from Diesel

We featured the GRAF lighting by Successful Living from Diesel a while back, but at ICFF I was able to get a closer look at all of the pieces in the collection, specifically the ones resulted from the partnership with Moroso.

Nebula Nine Sofa and Cumulus chair are like large clouds, with generous shapes, soft cushions and stonewashed linen covers, ideal for relaxing and socializing. The frame is in wood throughout, very strong and compact. I refused to sit on this sofa at ICFF for fear that I would never get up.

Rift Seating from Moroso

Named after the Great Rift Valley, Patricia Urquiola’s latest seating collection for Moroso was geologically inspired. Just like tectonic plates, which diverge, collide and overlap, creating several layers, the Rift sofas and chairs convey, in a highly unusual way, an effect of a sliding movement and asymmetric fusion.

The range includes eight interior pieces: a small chair, a slightly larger chair and a settee, three Y-shaped islands and two L-shaped compositions that could be considered either islands or sofas. They are made of stress resistant polyurethane foam in varied densities and polyester fibrefill on a hardwood frame. There are also indoor/outdoor chairs made of polyurethane shell and lacquered steel base. They come in two heights and about six colors including gray, violet, green, black and white.
