Legendary Hollywood Agent Ed Limato Dies at Age 73

By PopEater Staff  Posted Jul 5th 2010 08:38PM
Longtime Hollywood agent Ed Limato, whose clients included Steve Martin, Richard Gere and Denzel Washington, died this past Saturday at age 73, the Associated Press reports. The well-known agent died of lung disease at his home in Beverly Hills, Sarah Ceglarski of the William Morris Endeavor Entertainment Agency said.

Limato began his career as an assistant to Frano Zeffirelli, an Italian filmmaker. Zeffeirelli's agent eventually helped him get a job in the mailroom of Ashley-Famous Agency in New York--which soon became International Creative Management. He worked his way up in the company until he was a partner and co-president.

The legendary agent then moved to William Morris where his roster over the years included A-list stars Marlon Brando, Kevin Costner, Billy Crystal, Mel Gibson and Sharon Stone.

Win a Trip to 'The Office' Set and Help a Great Cause

Win a Trip to 'The Office' Set and Help a Great CauseMarcus York, who recurs as business park manager Billy Merchant on 'The Office,' doesn't just play a guy in a wheelchair -- it's the life he's lived since a car accident rendered him paraplegic. Which is why he works with SCI Cure, a foundation striving to help those afflicted by spinal cord injury. Their goal? "Accelerate research and get us out of wheelchairs as quickly as possible!"

The fast track to that goal is research and clinical trials, and the fast track to that is to donate $1 -- a dollar that could win you and a friend an all-inclusive trip to a taping of 'The Office.' That's right -- a chance at airfare and a two-night hotel stay for you and a guest, transportation to the studio, and a meet-and-greet with cast members ... for a buck.

"The winner can expect to meet a cast and crew that are probably some of the friendliest people in Hollywood," York (pictured here with Steve Carell), tells PopEater. "And it would certainly assist in bringing in the funding to help the millions of paralyzed individuals worldwide."

Before we get to that answer, let's saunter down memory lane and examine what happened to old hit shows when their head honcho or honchette, leading lady or proverbial King of the World, left for lives outside the magical box of television.
