Longtime Hollywood agent Ed Limato, whose clients included Steve Martin, Richard Gere and Denzel Washington, died this past Saturday at age 73, the Associated Press reports. The well-known agent died of lung disease at his home in Beverly Hills, Sarah Ceglarski of the William Morris Endeavor Entertainment Agency said.
Limato began his career as an assistant to Frano Zeffirelli, an Italian filmmaker. Zeffeirelli's agent eventually helped him get a job in the mailroom of Ashley-Famous Agency in New York--which soon became International Creative Management. He worked his way up in the company until he was a partner and co-president.
The legendary agent then moved to William Morris where his roster over the years included A-list stars Marlon Brando, Kevin Costner, Billy Crystal, Mel Gibson and Sharon Stone.
