A Vengeful Message on 'Pretty Little Liars' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 7th 2010 1:20AM
A Vengeful Message on 'Pretty Little Liars'No good deed goes unpunished. Or, no bad deed goes unpunished. Either way, everything gets gossiped about on 'Pretty Little Liars' (Tue., 8PM ET on ABC Family).

    [Spoiler alert.]

Emily (Shay Mitchell) has shared a slight kiss with neighborhood girl Maya (Bianca Lawson). Unfortunately, Emily has failed to consider the vengeful powers of the mysterious "A" -- the person who is the nemesis of all the girls on the show. And also, Emily made out with Maya in a photo booth, so evidence exists of of their so-called "scandalous" kiss. Naturally, this leads to trouble.

Now, "A" is sending out photos of the kiss via the Internet. It's all a very big deal -- if you're still in high school, as the characters on the show are. But we have to ask: is a girl making out with another girl really such a problem? We say no. Even though 'Pretty Little Liars' tries to present it as the most shocking thing ever.

    'Rescue Me' - 'Change' Recap

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 7th 2010 1:00AM
'Rescue Me'(S06E02) After last week's whirlwind tour through the people and environments that make up Tommy's world, things slowed down a bit this week so we could settle into this altered reality. In a lot of ways, that's exactly what it feels like. It's as if Tommy got shot and woke up in a parallel world that's almost exactly like the world he left, but just not quite.

The surreal tone of the premiere was lifted a bit, and things got back to normal in the firehouse, which means inappropriately awkward conversations in the kitchen amongst the guys and daring rescues on the job. This rescue, however, is both good and bad.

It looks like the danger of the firehouse getting shut down is going to be the underlying story that runs through at least these first few episodes, as we got a little bit of progress on that front. As for Tommy's personal front, it took some unexpected turns this week.

An Angry Kid Throws Food in Jillian Michaels' Face (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 6th 2010 11:15PM
An Angry Kid Throws Food in Jillian Michaels' FaceOn 'Losing It With Jillian' (Tue.,8PM ET on NBC), personal trainer Jillian Michaels travels to Arizona to help out an overweight Native American family. While meeting the family, who are of the Yavapai-Apache Nation tribe, Jillian learns a lot about local customs, which seem to involve eating a lot of "fry bread" -- dough that is deep-fried in lard. Not particularly healthy.

Eventually, while hanging out during a Native American gathering, Jillian can't really take it anymore. "Looking around, everybody's obese," she says. So she grabs the "fry bread" and tries to throw it out. Unfortunately, she's intercepted by a couple of kids, who want their delicious (but unhealthy) bread back. One of the kids still has some bread left, and his level of annoyance is so high that he throws it in her face.

"You're an idiot," the child says, after hitting Jillian with the foodstuff. He doesn't get to eat the bread, though, since he threw it away. "Well, maybe you'll live longer, kid," is Jillian's reply.

Craig Kilborn Quizzes a 'True Blood' Star About Vampires (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 6th 2010 9:15PM
Craig Kilborn Quizzes a 'True Blood' Star About VampiresIs this a good time to mention that we've kind of missed Craig Kilborn? Yeah, he's a little weird, and he's not exactly popular these days, and his new talk show will probably be canceled soon. But still ... we like Craig.

On 'The Kilborn File' (weeknights, 7PM ET on Fox), Kilborn welcomes guest Ryan Kwanten, who appears on the vampire-themed show 'True Blood.' If you're not getting your required daily dose of vampire and werewolf-related foolishness from 'Twilight,' then we recommend that you check 'True Blood' out.

Kilborn asks Ryan some of his patented oddball '5 Questions.' Among the questions is this one: Craig wants Ryan to "act," and show what it would be like if he was bitten by a female vampire. (Included in this hypothetical is the fact that Ryan would be "into" being bitten.)

How to Fix TV: The Summer Season Situation

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 6th 2010 6:30PM
'Rookie Blue'Sometimes it takes someone outside of a situation to really see what's not working, and come up with ways to fix it. Since I'm not a television executive, I can objectively look at what they're doing each season as a fan, instead of someone who's getting paid way too much money to decide how long the 'American Idol' results show should be each week.

For the past few years, the networks have been trying to create a "summer season" of original programming. While they've found some success with reality shows like 'Wipeout' and 'So You Think You Can Dance,' true year-round programming still remains an elusive dream.

Programming a few reality shows, burning off failed fall entries and launching the occasional scripted series that aren't strong enough for your real season isn't the way to make it happen. You need to create a revolution!

    But how to do it?

Inside a 'Double Exposure' Photo Shoot: Marcus and Indrani Talk Lindsay Lohan, Brooklyn Decker, Favorite Celebs and More

by Kelly Woo, posted Jul 6th 2010 5:40PM
Double ExposureCelebrity photographers Marcus Klinko and Indrani usually sit behind the lens, but their new Bravo reality show 'Double Exposure' has turned the camera around to document their world-trotting photo shoots and once-romantic, sometimes-contentious relationship.

The former couple, now just business partners, were thrust into the limelight last week thanks to an episode about a photo shoot with Lindsay Lohan, who was shown to arrive 11 hours late. The actress fired back on Twitter by saying she was "set up" and that it "sucks when friends use you in this case for ratings even if they're lying."

At today's photo shoot for 'Real Housewives of New York' star Jill Zarin, Klinko and Indrani addressed Lohan's remarks, plus gave me a preview of tonight's episode featuring Brooklyn Decker (11PM ET, Bravo).

Ratings Race: 'Persons Unknown' Continues Sliding, 'The Bachelorette' Dominates

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 6th 2010 4:40PM
'Persons Unknown'ABC (2.4/7, 7.796 million) continues to steamroll the competition on Monday nights with this summer's red-hot season of 'The Bachelorette.'

And proving that it doesn't take new programming to bring in viewers, CBS (1.8/5, 6.929) was right there with them in total viewers with their lineup of comedy repeats and a franchise procedural.

Say what you want about CBS, but they know how to make a product that the masses can't get enough of. Repeats of 'The Big Bang Theory' and 'Two and a Half Men' are doing numbers this summer that some comedies on other networks can't touch with new episodes during the fall season. They may not always get that sexy 18-49 demo crown, but they're doing just fine.

Adrienne Barbeau Joins 'General Hospital' ... and More Soap Casting News

by Allison Waldman, posted Jul 6th 2010 4:10PM
adrienne_barbeau_2008There's been a bunch of news from the soap world, stars signing, some leaving and a few old favorites returning. Here's the scoop on the soap opera revolving door:

-- TV/film star Adrienne Barbeau is joining 'General Hospital' as of August 12. The actress -- best known as Bea Arthur's daughter on 'Maude,' as well as movies like 'Swamp Thing' -- has been cast as Suzanne Stanwyck.

Stanwyck is closely aligned to Vanessa Marcil's character, Brenda, who will be returning August 11.

'GH' headwriter Bob Guza told Michael Logan that Suzanne is a tough dame. "Despite her hard edge, Suzanne has a lot of love for others, including Brenda -- she's her confidante, so to speak," Guza said.

    Is 'Damages' Canceled?

by Gary Susman, posted Jul 6th 2010 3:40PM
Glenn Close in 'Damages'For all its critical acclaim and the Emmy-grabbing prowess of Glenn Close, FX's 'Damages' is not expected to be renewed for a fourth season. Still, a report in TV Guide declaring the show dead may be premature.

In his column on Monday, the magazine's Matt Roush wrote, "Where FX is concerned, it really is over for 'Damages.'" He cited the twisted legal drama's low ratings and high production cost (with its New York City location shooting and its big-name cast, which this season included Close, Ted Danson, Lily Tomlin, Martin Short, and Campbell Scott). "While season 3 was a vast improvement over 2 in terms of quality and story, it didn't draw an audience big enough to justify the expense of a star-heavy show filmed in New York," Roush wrote. "This was a business, not a creative, decision."

If 'Damages' really has been canceled, however, FX has yet to say so. "No announcement has been made," FX Vice President of Media Relations Roslyn Bibby told TV Squad today. She said she did not know when a decision on the show's future would be announced.

    TV Squad's Dream Emmy Ballot

by Kelly Woo, posted Jul 6th 2010 3:00PM
Emmy statueEmmy nominations are coming soon! Before we find out who gets a nomination (and who gets robbed) on Thu., June 8, the editors of TV Squad wanted to sound off on our picks for this year's categories.

This past season gave us such a bounty of worthy shows and stars, and though none of us are members of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, we can still file our own dream ballots. My colleagues Maggie Furlong (aka The Show Girl), Joel Keller and Andy Scott joined me in deciding who was most deserving this year.

'Last Comic Standing' - 'The Semi-Finals Part Two' Recap

by Gabrielle Dunn, posted Jul 6th 2010 2:30PM
Kurt Metzger(S07E05) I'm way more excited for this week of comics than last week. If I remember correctly, this is a way better group and so the competition will be more intense. At least that's what I'm hoping after a lame opening bit involving a monkey in the control room.

The first semifinal comic up is Roy Wood Jr. His voice is weird and I sort of like his perspective, but his jokes aren't as strong. They get better as his set goes on though. Judge Greg Giraldo pretty much agrees with me. I don't know if he's memorable enough, but he's not bad.

'My Boys' Star Reid Scott Joins 'The Big C'

by Laura Prudom, posted Jul 6th 2010 1:40PM
Reid Scott - Getty ImagesWhile the prognosis isn't looking good for TBS comedy 'My Boys,' which is unlikely to score a fifth season pick-up due to the fact that most folks don't know it exists, star Reid Scott's career prospects are far from terminal.

According to Deadline, Scott has just scored a heavily recurring role on Showtime's new dark comedy 'The Big C' opposite Laura Linney. He'll play Dr. Todd, the fresh-faced oncologist treating Linney's Cathy for inoperable cancer, who is described as having "lots of training and intellect but lacks life or professional experience."
