Randy Brown purchased this property in Omaha, Nebraska and decided to move his family into the house while phasing construction projects. The project is a living laboratory for architectural experiments. The home is a combination of rusted steel and vintage-y looking wood that almost make it look like a modern abandoned mine. I like the use of volumes and how they interact with each other.
Wallter, the brand that brought you the beautiful Fold Bedding, wall decor, and modern mobiles has just launched a line of modern planters. The powder-coated spun aluminum planters are available in orange, mustard, white, or teal and come in three styles: Post, Wall, and Hang. The wall planters are ideal for small indoor container gardens, and the posts are perfect for lining your fence or patio with greenery.
Chris Held is a visual artist, and co-creator of the new American design house, Von Tundra. His work often combines contemporary, as well as historic, design symbolism with industrial furniture, such as shipping crates, pallets, and scaffolding. In doing so, Held positions his objects in the narrow margin between excessive frill and brute utility. The resulting works re-install craft as a vital component of the everyday that stretches beyond the built world into all aspects of daily practice. This piece, called Persian Pallet, is a piece that he created with Andrew Vomhof using dry erase marker on whiteboard pallet.
I couldn’t attend Dwell on Design this year, but I was lucky enough to be able to secure a few photographers to capture some of the house tours. Over the next week, you can see these exclusive house tour photos right here on Design Milk!
This cute Atwater cottage on the East leg of the Dwell on Design house tours was designed for and by the husband and wife team of RST Design and 73 Construction, Inc.

Below are few things I am digging right now.
Truncheon is a series of lamps designed by Commonwealth (Zoe Coombes and David Boira) for MatterMade consisting of a suspended tube light, an articulated task lamp and a freestanding tube that rests against a wall.
Avoiding unnecessary knobs or switches, the Truncheon adheres to its namesake, a simple compact stick form fashioned out of traditional materials and shaped by advanced digital technology. Resisting the demand to convert to compact fluorescent bulbs, the designers opted for energy-saving LED bulbs.
makelike is a Portland-based multidisciplinary design studio with a life long obsession with cacti. That’s why they decided to design a limited-edition theme-based line of products created for the home specifically focusing on the prickly green desert plant. The collection includes wallpaper, limited-edition posters, tea towels and pillow cases, screenprinted by hand using water-based inks in (or around) Portland, Oregon. What a fun theme!

Let’s go from East to West, starting with this modern home in the Hollywood hills. The Deronda house was designed by Michael Ferguson of Space International.
VIKTOR is the new High Potential Particle (HPP) Filter System purifier by Swizz Style, which produces the same air quality as a HEPA filter, but uses less energy and has a sleek design. Unlike other purifiers, VIKTOR filters the air through a patented HPP Filter System, which cleanses the air while active carbon eliminates unpleasant odors. Offering an optional perfume dispenser, you won’t need to mask odors with scented candles or air fresheners anymore. The HPP filter is also washable, more cost-effective, energy-efficient, and uses less energy than the typical HEPA paper filters. For more information on the HPP system, watch a short video.
