Work at gdgt

gdgt is hiring! We are a new breed of product-driven social platforms changing the way consumers share and acquire information about their products. gdgt leverages a robust structured product database connecting to people with products (and, in turn, one another).

We work in small, effective teams, iterating rapidly and maximizing impact on the millions of people using our product. We're well grounded, but our goals are lofty -- which is why we need bold, inspired, relentless people to help us achieve them.

gdgt is funded by some of the smartest investors in the business, including True Ventures and Betaworks. If you love gadgets and think you have what it takes, join us! Current positions include:

Core engineer
We're looking for a strong technical leader ready to go all the way when it comes to building exciting new features and compelling experiences that will help gdgt redefine the online gadget space. You have a vision, but you know how to execute and get things done. When you zero in, you're more effective in one or two good hours than a lesser developer's all-nighter, which is why you get that working smarter > working harder. But you still do both.

You:
  • Feel right at home building core features in OO PHP5.
  • Write code so clean, fast, and elegant, you might just hang it on your mantle.
  • Have solid MySQL and relational db skills.
  • Know your JS, jQuery, memcached, APC, and JSON.
  • Love finding solutions to complex problems and putting them to work in a way that scales.
  • Are disciplined and efficient in your approach to architecture and stability.
  • Have absolutely no love of IE6.
Familiarity with Facebook Connect and Twitter OAuth is a plus, as is experience with C or C++.

Position is full-time in SF / Bay area; salary based on experience.

Design lead
We have a penchant for great visual design, and we know we've got a lot of work to do to really get it right. We believe that the way something looks and the way it functions are (and should be) intertwined, which is why we're looking for someone follow through from concept to wireframe to visual and help us build some truly unique, groundbreaking experiences.

You:
  • Extremely strong visual designer. Good taste and keen aesthetic sensibility: very important.
  • Have an innate understanding of UX and IA; obsessed with marrying delightful visual design and thoughtful, elegant usability.
  • Can wear many hats; follow through and execute concepts through various stages, from flows to wireframes to final visuals.
  • Know how to edit and have minimalist tendencies. You're totally unafraid to challenge design assumptions and put the product first.
  • Are obsessed with the web: designing for it, using it, everything.
  • May have strong front-end development skills (HTML / CSS / JS / jQuery, etc.), which are a plus, but not required.
  • Will be working directly with product leaders and a crack team of kick ass engineers to execute your vision.
Position is full-time in SF / Bay area; salary based on experience.

Qualities we look for:
  • An innate love and understanding of the web.
  • Belief that a worthy product with thoughtful design and sound engineering can truly change the world.
  • Willingness to challenge assumptions, especially your own.
  • An inspired, inspiring personality. You want to work with creative problem solvers, not cogs -- and so do we.
  • A proactive and self-directed approach: you don't need -- or want -- someone micromanaging you.
  • Desire for challenge and growth. You're self-reliant, clever, and resourceful, and we will grow together.
  • Fearless. You may fail, but you're honest, resilient, positive, and never ready to throw in the towel.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • The facilities to recognize a good internet meme when you see one.
  • Modern Warfare / MW2 skills a plus.
Naturally, you'll need to legally be able to work in the US, and, if specified, be in proximity to the position in question (or willing to relocate). To apply, use our contact form to send us a message with:

  • A little something about yourself and why you're specifically interested in working on gdgt.
  • Some of your favorite gadgets on your list (and why).
  • Your employment history.
  • Any sites or projects you've worked on that may be relevant to the position.
Make sure you include title of the job you're applying for in the subject.
