Help and FAQ

We've got information coming here really soon, stay tuned. For now, hit up our support discussions!

  1. How do you say gdgt?
We tend to say it like g-d-g-t (gee-dee-gee-tee) but you can call it "gadget" -- it's a little easier.

  2. Does gdgt stand for anything else?
Not really. If we were a little more clever, it could be an acronym for "gadgets, devices, gizmos, and toys."

  3. Why isn't this gadget on the site?
We have thousands of products in our database right now, but that's just a small fraction of the hundreds of thousands of gadgets that are out there. We knew we couldn't add all of them ourselves, so we're relying on the community to help us out by submitting products we haven't gotten to yet. That means if you can't find a product you can add it yourself! Just click on the add new page and start filling out the specs and info.

  4. Where are all the other product categories?
We're launching with almost 20 product categories, and thousands of products -- but we know we have a LOT more to add (Bluetooth headsets, Blu-ray players, AV receivers, the list goes on...). If you don't see your category listed, hang onto your product submission for now and check back soon, we'll definitely have more coming online shortly.

  5. My submission was rejected, what gives?
Could be a number of reasons why, and we'll try to explain when it's not accepted. Usually it's because the product had some bad data or was miscategorized. It might also be because the product was already in the system as an alternate configuration of a master product. Either way, don't give up, and we'll continue do our best to help you get products into the site!

  6. Is there a mobile version of the site? What about an iPhone app?
We'd love to do both, but we don't have either at the moment. We'll likely start first with a nice mobile version of the site, and then we'll start looking at how to approach mobile apps. But we're working on it!

  7. Will you be adding OpenID support?
Yeah, that'd make sense. We're not sure when it'll roll out but we're definitely looking into it.

  8. How do I remove a product that I added to my have/had/want list?
Go to your profile's gadgets page; from there, select the options button on any corresponding gadget and you will be able to delete it.

  9. How do I add a picture, URL, or bio to my profile?
You can add a picture, URL, and bio to your profile on your profile settings here.

  10. How do I add someone as a friend?
Well, first you'll start things out by following someone: go to their profile and clicking the "follow" button under their profile picture. As soon as they follow you back, you're friends. (Whether you designate them your bestie, bff, or friend 4 lyfe is entirely up to you.)

  11. Where can I go to see my friends' activity on gdgt?
You can see what your friends on gdgt are doing in real time right from the social stream on the home page, and you can even customize what kind of entries you see. Try not to be too much of a voyeur though, it's kind of creepy.

  12. Won't someone just look at my profile to case me for a robbery?
If someone is really looking to commit a crime and already knows whereyou live, you've probably got a much bigger issue at hand than what'son your gadget list. It's up to each of us to be diligent in protecting one's online and offline privacy. That said, we take privacy concerns very seriously and allow you the option adjust what personal information you share on gdgt.
