"Not like this before."

That's A.R. Rahman's answer when asked if he'd ever done anything comparable to the current tour of elaborate dance numbers staged to highlights from his vast catalog of music composed for Indian films.

"It's a combination of Broadway and a rock concert and Bollywood," he says. "I've been wanting to do this for ages."

Well, when you've become the first Bollywood composer to win an Academy Award (he actually won two: one for Best Score and one for Best Song) as he did last year for 'Slumdog Millionaire' and the number 'Jai Ho' – the peak of a run of acclaim that also included two Golden Globes and two Grammy Awards – you can do a few things you've never done before.

As he was preparing his upcoming album, 'We Walk This Road,' pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph and his producer T-Bone Burnett were working on the song 'If I Had My Way' by bluesman Blind Willie Johnson. At first, the results proved to be unsatisfactory. However, the presence of guitarist Ben Harper turned things around.

"[Ben] listened to that song and his eyes lit up," Randolph tells Spinner. "He went in there and completely killed those choruses and really gave us a base to come back in [and] revisit that song, because now we had a full-on song. It turned out to be such a great song and a great day in the studio."

In a recent interview, the Stone Temple Pilots' frontman revealed that despite their tumultuous -- at times violent -- past together, he and former wife Mary Forsberg still hang out ... even on Boy Scout trips for their son Noah.

As previously reported, Jenny Lewis has started another new project with her boyfriend Johnathan Rice. As Jenny and Johnny, the duo has been busy working on a new album. After recording with producer and friend Mike Mogis, Jenny and Johnny have finally released their first single, 'Scissor Runner,' for free download.

Excited to share their collaboration, the pair will be hitting the road this fall starting on Sept. 1 in Santa Cruz, Calif. Jenny and Johnny also plan to play Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival and perform as the openers for Pavement in Brooklyn on Sept. 19 and Superchunk's Sept. 22 gig in Philadelphia.

Singer-songwriter Larry Jon Wilson died on Monday, June 21 from a stroke, according to the Tennessean. The 69-year-old passed away while visiting his family in Roanoke, Va.

While he had modest commercial success, Wilson was widely respected by his peers and fans. In the '70s, Wilson made four albums, including his 1975 debut, 'New Beginnings.' His most recent release was a self-titled LP issued by Drag City Records in 2009.

It's only been three years since Montreal indie rock outfit Stars were demanding to be taken to the riot, but despite a steady stream of accolades it seems the band has become mired in a deep sense of melancholy.

After releasing the critically-adored 'In Our Bedroom After the War' in 2007, singer-guitarist Amy Millan released her sophomore solo album, 'Masters of the Burial,' while fellow vocalist Torquil Campbell created his own side project, Dead Child Star. Those death references reemerge on Stars' latest effort, 'The Five Ghosts,' with song titles like 'Dead Hearts' and 'I Died So I Could Haunt You.' But that fixation with mortality is perfectly appropriate considering Campbell's father, esteemed stage actor Douglas Campbell, passed away last October.

We've heard the tale a hundred times of the songwriter using their art to work through their pain, but Campbell says writing songs for the new album hasn't made him feel any better.
