Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Image via Wikipedia

While it may be on a smaller screen, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is apparently much, much bigger than the two PSP GTA games Rockstar has put out.

Studio president Gordon Hall uses the two PSP Grand Theft Auto games – which it developed – for comparison, saying “this game is far bigger.”

According to Hall, Chinatown Wars outclasses the PSP games with “more odd jobs, deeper missions, and more moments of over-the-top action,” adding that it features “huge interaction with the Rockstar Social Club [and] a massive [narcotics trafficking] game that would stand alone on its own.” Game? Surely he means a motivational tool.

I think its officially made my going-to-buy list.

I’ve been playing a bit of Mirror’s Edge lately after stealing it from fx, and something has hit me smack in the middle of my stomach – nothing. It doesn’t make me ill

You might be wondering why this is such and important thing that I’m making a blog post about it. Well, I get motion sickness pretty easily. On holiday last week I had to pop pills on the tour bus, on the shuttle bus and on the boat to keep me from throwing up.

Server Issues

We had some unfortunate server issues in the early hours of the morning (largely to do with WordPress making a mess of .htaccess) but are back up – sorry for the inconvenience !

A computers switched mode power supply unit.
Image via Wikipedia

If you’ve ever been in the market for a PSU (power supply unit) then this will surely interest you – is it better to get a generic one or spend a little more and potentially save more in the long run. Slashdot linked to a techreport report on this subject with some interesting results –

The Tech Report aims to find out in its latest power supply round-up, which compares the performance, efficiency, and noise levels of a collection of reputable PSUs with some budget, no-name competition. As it turns out, any money you save on a generic PSU purchase will likely cost you more in the long run.”

This is something I’ve long suspected – firstly, the chance is much higher (in my experience) that a cheaper PSU dies on you. Buying a new one is expensive and time consuming – and it never dies while its turned off – you will always be needing your computer when it croaks.

Aside from that, you may well be looking at less power wastage and a lower operating cost..

The last Firefox 2 release is now live and Mozilla (as well as I) are advising to simply move to Firefox 3. Apparantly some 20% of their users are using the older version though, and when they do go to update will be prompted with a warning:

Firefox 2.0.0.x will be maintained with security and stability updates until mid-December, 2008. All users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to Firefox 3.

I’ve been using Firefox 3 since it was still in beta and it is a great step better, especially now on 3.0.5 – consider upgrading folks!

One for the Dog Lovers

Kaless on the forums has a post the dog lovers amongst us might enjoy –

If You Can….

If you can start the day without caffeine;
If you can get going without pep pills;
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains;
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles;
If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it;
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time;
If you can forgive a friend’s lack of consideration;
If you can overlook it when those you love take it out on you when,
through no fault of your own, something goes wrong;
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment;
If you can ignore a friend’s limited education and never correct him;
If you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend;
If you can face the world without lies and deceit;
If you can conquer tension without medical help;
If you can relax without liquor;
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs;
If you can honestly say that deep in your heart you have no prejudice
against creed or color, religion or politics; then, my friend, you are
almost as good as your dog.

Quick tip: Wikipedia has finally released a cell phone version of the enormous user-created encyclopedia at mobile.wikipedia.org. Also worth a mention is that its significantly faster than the regular website due to its cut-down content if you’re quickly looking for a definition.
