Die Strategie scheint aufzugehen: Pakistanische Sicherheitskräfte haben sieben der 15 Top-Taliban verhaftet. Alles deutet auf eine enge Zusammenarbeit der CIA mit dem pakistanischen Geheimdienst hin – und darauf, dass der gefangene Mullah Baradar bei Verhören plaudert.

Nett von ihm. Und das tut er natürlich freiwillig. Denn unter Obama krümmt kein CIA-Mann einem Terroristen mehr ein Haar. Man muß schließlich nicht immer gleich grob werden. Man schwätzt einfach ein bißchen über dies und das, und am Ende legt auch der hartgesottenste Taliban seinen neuen amerikanischen Freunden gerne eine Namensliste mit den bösen Buben auf den Tisch.

Und wenn das wider Erwarten doch nicht reichen sollte, muß man die Verdächtigen nicht mal mehr an dubiose Verbündete ausliefern wie noch unter dem doofen Bush. Man kann sie stattdessen nämlich auch gleich direkt von ihnen gefangennehmen lassen. Und anschließend hört man einfach aufmerksam zu, wie sich das nette Gespräch mit den befreundeten “Ermittlern” so entwickelt.

Realpolitik ist eben eine feine Sache, so lange sie nur der richtige macht. Wenn das nicht den Jubel an der Siegessäule wert war, was dann? Falls “The One” den Friedennobelpreis noch nicht hätte, wäre er jedenfalls spätestens jetzt an der Reihe.

Wo ist das Problem? Da schnappen sich die übrigen Abgeordneten einfach die Todesanzeigen der weit zahlreicheren Opfer des Talibanterrors, dann verlassen unsere pseudolinken Terroristenversteher aus Scham über den reaktionären Abschaum, denen sie Afghanistan lieber heute als morgen überlassen würden, schon freiwillig den Saal. Und wenn man sie dann zur Begrüßung jedesmal aufs neue damit konfrontiert, bleiben sie vielleicht sogar ganz draußen. Da können sie sich dann ja in die nächste Dresdendemo einreihen, da steht man auf so was.

Deine Einlassungen zum Sozialstaat sind durchaus diskussionswürdig. Möchtest Du da nicht zufällig Wirtschaftsminister werden oder so was? Das würde uns – und Dir! – Deine weitere öffentliche Selbstdemontage auf dem für Dich offensichtlich zu unübersichtlichem Terrain der Sicherheitspolitik ersparen:

Gaza – Israels Entscheidung, zwei Kulturstätten im Westjordanland zum israelischen Nationalerbe zu erklären, stößt bei den Palästinensern auf scharfen Widerstand. Ismail Hanija, Anführer der im Gazastreifen herrschenden radikal-islamischen Hamas, rief deswegen am Dienstag zu einem neuen Palästinenseraufstand gegen Israel auf. Palästinenserpräsident Mahmud Abbas von der rivalisierenden Fatah-Organisation warnte in Brüssel vor einem “Religionskrieg” und kritisierte Israels Entscheidung als Provokation.

Die israelische Regierung hatte am Sonntag beschlossen, die Patriarchengräber in Hebron und das Rachelsgrab bei Bethlehem auf eine Liste von insgesamt etwa 150 Stätten zu setzen, für deren Erhaltung man sich einsetzen wolle. Im Rachelsgrab soll die Lieblingsfrau Jakobs – einer der biblischen Erzväter – beerdigt sein, in den Patriarchengräbern der Urvater Abraham, den auch Muslime als Ibrahim verehren.

Solange die Palästinenser nicht in der Lage sind, im Umgang mit den Toten und religiösen Symbolen anderer einen halbwegs zivilisierten Umgang an den Tag zu legen, sollten sie in dieser Angelegenheit besser mal die Füße still halten. Wenn sie wirklich an einer Aussöhnung interessiert sind, steht es ihnen jederzeit frei, sich zusammen mit den Israelis um die Ruhestätte Abrahams kümmern, damit dessen Erstgeborener auch mal stolz auf sie sein kann. Da könnten sie dann endlich mal unter Beweis stellen, daß sie nicht nur kaputtmachen, sondern auch bewahren können.

Und dann, so in hundert Jahren vielleicht, wenn in Palästina Juden hoffentlich nicht mehr als Affen und Schweine betrachtet werden, wird sich unter entfernten Verwandten sicher eine vernünftige Lösung finden, nach der jüdischen Organisationen in Palästina hinsichtlich des Erhalts religiöser Stätten dieselben Rechte zugestanden werden, wie sie die Araber in Israel seit Jahrzehnten als selbstverständlich erachten. Bis dahin aber kann man sehr gut verstehen, daß die Israelis ganz gerne selber ein Auge drauf haben, wer hier bei der Grabpflege das letzte Wort hat.

Kurz nach dem Mord war es Lieberman gewesen, der die israelische Linie vorgab. Der Geheimdienst Mossad, so postulierte es der Außenminister, müsse grundsätzlich mit einer “Politik der Unklarheit” agieren. Eine Aufklärung des Mords im Auftrag der Regierung gehört nicht zu dieser Politik.

Also so was! Wo doch jeder andere Geheimdienst nach derartigen Aktionen auf einer Pressekonferenz die Details der Operation unaufgefordert auf den Tisch legt.

European Union is experiencing an explosion of modern anti-Semitism. Have
the lessons of murderous Nazi racial anti-Semitism been inculcated into
mainstream European opinion and action?

The results of the Jewish Agency’s report released in January showing global
anti-Semitism spiraling out of control – and of a German Bielefeld
University study in December documenting mushrooming hatred of Israel –
recall the memorable line in the film “Casablanca,” in which police Captain
Renault announces that Rick’s Cafe must be closed because of illegal
activity. “I’m shocked, shocked to discover that gambling is going on
here!’” says Renault, while being handed the proceeds of his gambling wins.

While some observers of Jew-hatred in Western Europe are not shocked by the
largest wave of anti-Semitism since the Hitler movement, many European
governments, policy makers and academics tend to feign shock like Renault or
simply cannot fathom that hatred of Israel is the most ubiquitous form of
contemporary anti-Semitism.

The Bielefeld study found that 41 percent of Europeans agreed with the
statement that Jews are exploiting the Holocaust to advance their own
interests, and 46 percent supported the contention that Israel in general
“is conducting a war of extermination against the Palestinians.”

Um meiner Schreibfaulheit entgegenzukommen und meine(n) Mitblogger nicht ganz im Regen stehen zu lassen, habe ich mir jetzt einen Twitter-Account zugelegt. Zwar nicht unter NBFS (das war leider schon vergeben), aber NB4S trifft’s bei diesem neumodischen Kiddiekram eh besser.

Das gibt dann zwar sicher keine ganz so substantiellen Artikel wie im Blog selbst, aber für den einen oder anderen spontanen Zwischenruf reichts schon noch, ohne daß mich die Vorstellung, demnächst einen ellenlangen Artikel schreiben zu müssen, schon Tage vorher in tiefe Depressionen stürzt.

Und daß man bei Twitter zwecks URL-Kürzung fast zwangsläufig bei bit.ly landet, macht es für einen bekennenden Gaddhafi-”Fan” wie mich noch mal ganz besonders amüsant. In diesem Sinne:

Die Islamische Republik steuere auf eine “Militärdiktatur” zu, sagte die US-Außenministerin am Montag bei einer Diskussion mit Studenten in der katarischen Hauptstadt Doha. Denn die Revolutionswächter unterwanderten mit den von ihnen kontrollierten Unternehmen zunehmend das politische System. “Die Regierung, der geistliche Führer, der Präsident und das Parlament werden verdrängt und Iran steuert auf eine Militärdiktatur zu”, warnte Clinton.

Wie schade! Wo die Welt mit den zivilen Diktaturen nicht gewählter Regierungen, selbsternannter Präsidenten, fanatischer Führer und den Pseudoparlamenten, die die sich zu halten pflegen, doch immer so gute Erfahrungen gemacht hat.

Okay, that is a credit point for President Obama but now a question for Progressives etc. :
With all the moralizing and lecturing over civilian casualties in “Bush’s Wars” what are your feelings on President Obama now creating so many more civilian casualties as these terrorists that we are killing are surrounded by bystanders who get killed as well.

The media doesn’t report  the wedding bombings on the front page anymore (because the evil you know who is out of office) but President Obama has simply stepped up predator strikes with the same munitions and the same civilian casualty issues.

So do you have any moral qualms with this ? Is it okay to kill civilians now, (and suspected terrorists given that, when vaporized, they have a hard time defending themselves from accusations in a court or tribunal? If killing civilians and unconnected suspects is okay, how did it become okay given that doing so was a great moral stain on our nation only 2 years ago?

Okay, it makes some issues easier like the need for renditions, the need for Gitmo
and don’t forget the controversy over Mirandizing them and civil/military trials

Anyway. Given what he said prior to the choice I had feared he wouldn’t and it is proper to give him due credit for continuing President Bush’s policies of kill Al Qaeda at every opportunity wherever they are – and unilaterally too.

This is more than a great schenkelklopf this is the best joke of this Administration.

President Bush signed a bill Friday to pay for military operations in Iraq after a bitter struggle with Democrats in Congress who sought unsuccessfully to tie the money to U.S. troop withdrawals.

Democratic presidential rivals Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama both voted against the bill.

“I fully support our troops” but the measure “fails to compel the president to give our troops a new strategy in Iraq,” said Clinton, D-N.Y.

“Enough is enough,” Obama, an Illinois senator, declared, adding that Bush should not get “a blank check to continue down this same, disastrous path.”

Their votes continued a shift in position for the two presidential hopefuls, both of whom began the year shunning a deadline for a troop withdrawal.

Sen. John McCain, a GOP presidential contender, said the two Democrats were embracing a “policy of surrender.”

“This vote may win favor with MoveOn and liberal primary voters, but it’s the equivalent of waving a white flag to al-Qaeda,” said McCain, R-Ariz. MoveOn.org… is a grass-roots anti-war group that rose to prominence in last year’s elections.

Iraq’s new government of national unity will not stop the deterioration. Iraqis have had three such governments in the last three years, each with Sunnis in key posts, without noticeable effect. The alternative path out of this terrible trap has five elements.

The first is to establish three largely autonomous regions with a viable central government in Baghdad. The Kurdish, Sunni and Shiite regions would each be responsible for their own domestic laws, administration and internal security.

Whats about his assertion that the surge, the strategy that won the war in Iraq, was going to be a failure and should not have been implemented:

“I mean, the truth of the matter is that, that the — America’s — this administration’s policy and the surge are a failure, and that the surge, which was supposed to stop sectarian violence and — long enough to give political reconciliation, there’s been no political reconciliation… The reality is that, although there has been some mild progress on the security front, there is, in fact, no, no real security in Baghdad and/or in Anbar province, where I was, dealing with the most serious problem, sectarian violence. Sectarian violence is as strong and as solid and as serious a problem as it was before the surge started.”

etc. etc. etc.

President Obama did nothing absolutely nothing for Iraq. He voted consistently against any kind of measure that would ensure victory and insisted troops be withdrawn before the victory was achieved.

Because of President Bush there is now a democratically elected government in Iraq. Not the best but it is a fresh start.
Because of President Bush there are millions of free people in Iraq that once ruled by a tyrant. Because of President Bush  and his willingness to change course and listen to new ideas, we won in Iraq and this is why those troops US and Friends can be brought home.

Nothing President Obama, Vice President Biden, or anyone else in his Administration did enabled Iraq to be a success story. If the American people had listened to these fools we would have ran home with our tails between our legs.

I don’t know how it works in Germany and if is an acceptable solution to blame a Verfassungsgerichts adjudication if you are the Chancellor.
But in the US i NEVER see a President rebuke the Supreme Court to their face, in a State of the Union speech.
Obama did it Wednesday night. What’s more, he lied about the Supreme Court’s recent ruling overturning recent campaign finance law.

Justice Alito couldn’t sit there and take it. Notice how he shakes his head then mouths “not true.”

Even the Washington Post has come out in opposition in his ed (not the op-ed)to the Obama administration’s decision to treat the crotch-bomber (Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab) as nothing more than a common street criminal.

Whether to charge terrorism suspects or hold and interrogate them is a judgment call. We originally supported the administration’s decision in the Abdulmutallab case, assuming that it had been made after due consideration. But the decision to try Mr. Abdulmutallab turns out to have resulted not from a deliberative process but as a knee-jerk default to a crime-and-punishment model.

…Some intelligence officials, including personnel from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, were included in briefings by the Justice Department before Mr. Abdulmutallab was charged. These sessions did provide an opportunity for those attending to debate the merits of detention vs. prosecution. According to sources with knowledge of the discussions, no one questioned the approach or raised the possibility of taking more time to question the suspect. This makes the administration’s approach even more worrisome than it would have been had intelligence personnel been cut out of the process altogether.

The fight against an unconventional enemy such as al-Qaeda cannot be waged exclusively or effectively through any single approach. Just as it would be a mistake to view all terrorist acts as law enforcement challenges, so would it be unwise to deal with all such incidents as acts of war. All paths must be seriously considered before a determination is made.

I cannot belive in a lifetime how anyone could believe giving Miranda warnings to a terrorist is a good idea.
I know the left has many peaceniks who are more naive than a 6 year old but hey, Miranda warnings for a foreign terrorist suspect? He is not a US citizen and he was trained by and is a part of a non-state entity which has declared war on the US. He simply does not have the same protection afforded to a US citizen. He is an enemy (unlawful)combatant. No Miranda warnings are necessary.

What the Post still fails to understand is that the administration’s “myopic, irresponsible and potentially dangerous” blunder in this case was less a result of one bureaucratic miscommunication than of the inherent confusion at the base of its thinking about terrorism and the law. As long as there is indecision about whether violent jihadists should be treated as standard criminals or as the illegal combatants they are, blunders like this are inevitable. The administration’s policy is not the nuanced approach the Post takes it to be. It is wishful thinking masquerading as a nuanced approach.

If you send the FBI agents to handle this case they reacted the way they have been trained and questioned the suspect and then Mirandized him. This would be normal procedure for a typical i.e bank robber . This admin is so far behind the curve of filling vacancies that they don’t have any of the HIG team in place. Plus, these bright lights at the FBI didn’t think to call in and ask if this bombing case might rise to a higher level. It’s really not the agents fault because they have been so brain washed about civil rights and sensitivity training that this is the results and it is the right result for criminals but not for (unlawful) combatants. That is bureaucracy at its worst and it is a lefty view of the war.
There is no war there are only criminals with bad mum and dad.

This was a good,wise and humane decision:

extending temporary amnesty to Haitians who were illegally inside the U.S. before this week’s catastrophic earthquake.

Some 30,000 Haitians had been awaiting deportation but will now be allowed to stay in the U.S. and work for another 18 months. . . .

We hope even the most restrictionist voices on the right and in the labor movement will understand the humanitarian imperative. The suffering and chaos since the earthquake should make it obvious that Haiti is no place to return people whose only crime was coming to America to escape the island’s poverty and ill-governance.

For that matter, we don’t mind if they stay here permanently. Haitian immigrants as a group are among America’s most successful, which demonstrates that Haiti’s woes owe more to corruption, disdain for property rights and lack of public safety than to any flaw in its people. Their remittances to Haiti also help to sustain the impoverished population. Haitians received some $1.65 billion from overseas in 2006, according to the Inter-American Development Bank.

The President and his advisors have reason to be proud of themselves.

Nigerian Indicted in Terrorist Plot

DETROIT (AP) — A Nigerian man accused of trying to blow up a Detroit-bound Northwest Airlines flight on Christmas Day was indicted Wednesday on charges including attempted murder and trying to use a weapon of mass destruction to kill nearly 300 people.

An anonymous State Department employee, talking to The American Spectator about Flight 253 and underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab:

This employee says that despite statements from the Obama Administration, such information [that Abdulmutallab had been banned from Britain] was flagged and given higher priority during the Bush Administration, but that since the changeover “we are encouraged to not create the appearance that we are profiling or targeting Muslims.”

If this statement is correct, it makes President Obamas Adminstration directly responsible for Abdulmutallab’s success in spiriting a bomb aboard Flight 253, and the statement is easily believable, given STRATFOR’s report last June about intelligence agencies being ordered to stop investigating Black Muslims.

Several weeks ago, STRATFOR heard from sources that the FBI and other law enforcement organizations had been ordered to “back off” of counterterrorism investigations into the activities of Black Muslim converts.
