Well in the end my partner and I had a wonderful, stress-free engagement party with our family and friends and I was very proud to see my dad give a confident, warm and caring speech at the party - completely unprepared too!
Dad and his two kids ended up having several heart-to-hearts during the evening and it was lovely to see them talking again. I don’t know what the future holds for them in terms of their relationship but that will be up to them, not me. Thanks all for your advice.
