03. Crying
04. Brothers
05. Memories
06. Save Our Love
07. Ocean Sonata
08. Miracle Of Life
09. Sorrow
10. Prelude To April

Showing his softer side, guitar god Yngwie Malmsteen buckles down and offers up a collection of ballads. Nine of the tracks on ANGELS OF LOVE are stripped-down and rearranged versions of previously released material spanning Malmsteen's 25-year solo career. (One song, "Ocean Sonata," is a brand-new composition.) Songs from TRILOGY, ECLIPSE, ODYSSEY, THE SEVENTH SIGN, FACING THE ANIMAL, WAR TO END ALL WARS, and CONCERTO SUITE FOR GUITAR AND ORCHESTRA are all given new acoustic life as the man with lightning fingers also utilizes his electric guitar to fill out the new arrangements. Soulful, delicate, and, at times, romantic, ANGELS OF LOVE displays a side of Yngwie Malmsteen few listeners ever knew. - cduniverse

V.A. - Anchored In Love - A Tribute To June Carter Cash (2007)

Because she rarely recorded under her own name, a tribute to the late June Carter Cash by default also stands as a tribute to her genealogy: several of the songs among the dozen here were recorded by June with her late husband, Johnny Cash, or by country music's legendary Carter Family, from which June sprang. In addition, the album was produced by John Carter Cash, the only child of Johnny and June, and there are tracks by Carlene Carter, June's daughter from her first marriage (to Carl Smith), and Rosanne Cash, Johnny Cash's daughter with his first wife. As producer, John Carter Cash largely plays it predictable. There are few surprises and no truly offbeat rearrangements or radical interpretations. Folks who enjoyed the singing of June Carter Cash will likely be quite satisfied with these loving, faithful covers. And they should be, because virtually all of the performances are flawless, honest, and inspired. Two duets lead things off: Sheryl Crow and duet king Willie Nelson give a spirited, if somewhat rote, reading to "If I Were a Carpenter," the Tim Hardin-penned classic, and Carlene Carter and Ronnie Dunn hoot it up on "Jackson," the Nancy Sinatra-Lee Hazlewood hit -- both songs were longtime staples of Johnny and June's shows together. A handful of top-shelf country artists, among them Loretta Lynn (a tender "Wildwood Flower"), Brad Paisley (a straightforward, beautifully sung "Keep on the Sunny Side"), and bluegrass hero Ralph Stanley ("Will the Circle Be Unbroken," what else?), pay their respects with kind treatments, and Emmylou Harris, who certainly learned a thing of two from June, sends it off in style with "Song to John," June's self-explanatory tribute of her own. It wouldn't be a tribute album if Elvis Costello didn't turn up, and though his "Ring of Fire" will never go down as the definitive version of that Johnny Cash signature, Costello brings his usual commitment -- and an autoharp, June's favorite instrument -- to his no-frills version. Two of the more left-field approaches come via Patty Loveless and Kris Kristofferson, who bring a touch of drollness to "Far Side Banks of Jordan," and Billy Joe Shaver, who's exactly the right guy to give a bit of bite to the Carter Family's "Kneeling Drunkard's Plea." You've got to think that both June and Johnny would have loved this homage, whose release coincides with the publication of John Carter Cash's same-titled biography of his mother. ~ All Music Guide

JOE HENRY - Blood From Stars (2009)

01. Prelude: Light No Lamp
02. The Man I Keep Hid
03. Channel
04. This Is My Favorite Cage

07. Bellwether
08. Progress Of Love
09. Over Her Shoulder
10. Suit On A Frame
11. Truce
12. Stars
13. Coda: Light No Lamp

Joe Henry’s growing reputation as the empathetic, resourceful producer behind some kick-ass R&B; comebacks (Solomon Burke, Bettye LaVette) may have overshadowed his unique gifts as a singer-songwriter. The ambitious Blood from the Stars insists you pay attention, and Henry makes it easy with his cinematic arrangements for an assortment of pros including guitarist Marc Ribot and pianist Jason Moran. The presence of “bent horns and bowed banjo,” in Henry’s parlance, lends New Orleans swagger, defiant amid the clouds of ghostly effects that give these songs a dark, fuguelike quality. Lines like “Someone used my mouth and laughed out loud” and “I clawed at your skirt like it was a dirt floor” seep with blues feeling and a soul-bruised air of dislocation, which only deepens the mystery. The album features veteran musicians like guitarist Marc Ribot and pianist Jason Moran. Joe Henry has produced and written with Loudon Wainwright, Elvis Costello, Allen Toussaint, Ornette Coleman, Solomon Burke, Madonna, Ani DiFranco, Don Byron, T-Bone Burnett and Ramblin' Jack Elliott. MARC BOLAN & T. REX - Anthology (1991)

This three-disc box set covering 68-77 is a ‘Marc on Wax’ release with Fly-RZ catalogue licensed from Castle. Probably issued to coincide with the re-release of ‘20th Century Boy’ it has all the hallmarks of a rush job. Let’s see what you get; three tightly packed CDs including all the big hits and some nice rarities, a booklet with a rather subjective overview of Marc’s career, good photos though, and a stiff slip case. HERE

DISC 1 - The Early Years

This starts off well with a different from usual track list. The singles are there of course but it all goes wrong when we get to ‘One Inch Rock’. The case gives a P date of 1968 (the single version) but in fact it’s the 1970 cut from ‘T.Rex’. The stereo electric take is quite often substituted for the mono single version (uncredited so beware) on iffy compilations, but giving the wrong info is unforgivable. Otherwise it’s all a bit of a jumble. The running order while different isn’t very engaging, and ceases even to be chronological after track 14. Spelling junkies please note ‘Consuela’ and ‘Saltimbanques’. On the plus side it does include the rare ‘Pewter Suitor’ and the even rarer ‘Oh Baby’.
01. Debora
02. Child Star
03. Knight
04. Consuela
05. Oh Harley (The Saltimbanques)
06. Evenings Of Damask
07. Iscariot
08. By The Light Of The Magical Moon
09. Organ Blues
10. Elemental Child
11. Childe
12. Seagull Woman
13. Once Upon The Seas Of Abyssinia
14. Cosmic Dancer
15. Lean Woman Blues
16. Rip Off
17. One Inch Rock
18. Pewtor Suitor
19. Salamanda Palaganda
20. King Of The Rumbling Spires
21. Oh Baby

DISC 2 - The Singles A's & B's
Actually just the big hits, from ‘Ride a White Swan’ to ‘20th Century Boy’, presented chronologically A then B. Sadly, again there are reasons to dislike this disc. First, and almost criminally, ‘Raw Ramp’ is cut up. ‘There was a Time’ and ‘Raw Ramp’ are divorced and ‘Electric Boogie’ amputated. Second, and merely a gross oversight by comparison, the ‘Xmas Jingle’ that precedes the B-side version of ‘Born to Boogie’ is not present, despite a mention in the accompanying booklet. Third, did you know Cochran and Capehart wrote ‘Is It Love’? Fourth, in this format I found it annoying not to have the full studio chat/noise found on the Fly vinyl B-sides. Fifth, there is a much better running order to be had than strictly ABAB etc, ABBA works much better. Still, twenty-two important tracks otherwise not on one album is an achievement.
01. Ride A White Swan
02. Is It Love
03. Summer Time Blues
04. Hot Love
05. Woodland Rock
06. The King Of The Mountain Cometh
07. Get It On
08. There Was A Time

19. Jitterbug Love
20. Sunken Rags
21. Solid Gold Easy Action
22. Born To Boogie
23. 20th Century Boy
24. Free Angel

DISC 3 - From Glam Rock to Fast Punk 1972-1977
No more than a run through of album cuts from 72-77, with a few single-side only tracks tacked on the end for good measure. Again the songs are assembled with no apparent thought for sequencing. The ‘Big Carrot’ track would have been a real bonus here, a good balance to ‘Oh Baby’ on CD-1. It all ends up seeming a bit messy and difficult to know what they were trying to achieve. The only error is ‘Ride My heels’.
01. Buick McKane
02. Rabbit Fighter

SUPER BLACK BLUES

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.us

Super Black Blues (2001)
This is one of the best urban blues album ever recorded. Not only is the music terrific, but also the reunion of such great musicians as Joe Turner, T-Bone Walker, Otis Spann, George "Harmonica" Smith and Ernie Watts, for the first and only time, backed by a brilliant rhythm section, including Ron Brown on bass, Arthur Wright on guitar and Paul Humphrey on drums, made this recording one-off. Last but not least, the producer, Bob Thiele, better known for his work with John Coltrane on Impulse. The session took place in New York, on October 17, 1969. Otis Spann, pianist for Muddy Waters before starting his own solo career, passed away a few months later, in April 1970. George "Harmonica" Smith was also the harp player for Muddy Waters before starting to play and record under his own name. There are only 4 long tracks on this recording, 3 of them penned by T-Bone Walker, but over 40 minutes of fresh raw real blues. Put together the Kansas City singing of Joe Turner, the Texas guitar and singing style of T-Bone Walker, the Chicago piano and singing style of Otis Spann, the unique harp sound and playing of George Smith, the honky tenor saxophone of Ernie Watts, and what you get is this terrific vintage recording. Joe Turner and T-Bone Walker share vocals on most of the tracks. - amazon.com

Recorded in the USA, on October 17, 1969

A Soundtrack To An Unwritten Film - That's the idea that brought Setzer's "Songs From Lonely Avenue" into being. Inspired by the great film noir soundtracks from the '40's and '50's, Setzer set out to create songs that would carry a classic cinematic mood completely missing from today's musical landscape. The result is the 3-time Grammy winner's best orchestra album today, and the first in an illustrious 30-year career where Brian wrote all songs on the album. - amazon.com

Their first studio album in three years, 'By A Thread' finds the Mule, lead guitarist and frontman Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, keyboardist Danny Louis, and bassist Jorgen Carlsson, adding a newfound shot of soul to their classic power-band sound."'By A Thread" was recorded largely in the Texas Hill Country at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in 2009, the album's origins are apparent from the first track, "Broke Down On The Brazos," named after the nearby river, with a deep Texas stomp for the backbeat and featuring what Rolling Stone recently called "an incendiary duel with ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons." Perhaps less descriptively named, "Steppin' Lightly" is another burner, set off by the soulful vocals and mind-bending guitar work of Haynes.

V.A. - Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - OST (1978)

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was a multi-platinum double album produced by George Martin, featuring covers of songs by The Beatles and was released in July 1978, as the soundtrack to the film Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It starred the Bee Gees, Peter Frampton and Steve Martin. The project was managed by The Robert Stigwood Organisation. In 1975 the original plans for the album were suspended due to a dispute between Columbia and RSO.RSO invested $12million into this soundtrack and the profit offset set against costs such as $1million for promotion. Although the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band debuted at #5 in the US Billboard album charts and stayed there for six weeks, becoming a multi-platinum album, there was reported resistance to the interpretation of The Beatles' songs, such as Martin's comedic take on "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". However Earth Wind & Fire's version of "Got To Get You Into My Life" became a million selling single and Aerosmith's "Come Together" charted in the top 40 and later appeared on the soundtrack for Armageddon. - en.wikipedia.org
