A Black-headed Gull in St James's Park, London, England. Although the gull typically has a black head, as the name suggests, its winter plumage around the head is white with black spots, visible on the side of the head. This image was taken by myself with a Canon 5D and 70-200mm f/2.8L lens at 150mm, ISO 1600 and f/8 with a 1/1250s shutter speed. Gulls (often informally seagulls) are birds in the family Laridae. They are most closely related to the terns (family Sternidae) and only distantly related to auks, skimmers, and more distantly to the waders. The News Tribune Sun 27 Dec 2009
