"From one moment to the next, his violin might sound like a subway car screeching to a halt, the wailing of Jimi Hendrix's guitar, or a gently gurgling mechanical toy. From the cacophony arose memorable jazz riffs and Paganini style virtuosity." - The New York Times
Japanese drumming master Shoji Hano was first introduced to drumming at the age of four in the style of Kokura Gion Taiko at a local festival.
He began playing the western drum set at the age of 15. Influenced by jazz legends Max Roach, Art Blakey and “Philly” Joe Jones, Hano commenced public performances in 1974. In 1975, encounters with such mavericks as Kaoru Abe (alto sax) and Toshinori Kondo (trumpet) as well as being introduced to the martial art Shintaido had led Hano to develop his own style of improvised drumming based on the philosophical concepts of Shintaido.

"do you play requests?" don't you hate that question!!
In this performance, the musicans will be taking requests - not to play songs, but to play ideas/concepts - in varying groupings (solo, duo, trio, and bigger ensembles).
Are you interested? There will be a little money in it (we have enough to pay $30 each to 30 musicians)
Get in fast! contact Ryko at ryko@centrekingsbeauty.com to register your interest.
There will be a mandatory rehearsal to be held before the event (date to be advised) - there will be two rehearsal opportunities - one in Sydney and one in the Blue Mountains.
