John Buis Selected to Light Flame

Basketball BC’s President John Buis has been one of four honoured people selected to light the flame at the Opening Ceremonies of the World Police and Fire Games.  Four people, one representing police, fire, corrections and border control have been selected to light the flame at the Opening ceremonies, Friday July 29th at GM Place.  The ceremonies begin at 8pm.  Criteria for selection include a comeback from a serious injury and involvement in amateur and community sport.

 
Canadian Senior Women’s National Basketball Team Training Camp

August 2-14. All practices are at Envision Athletics Centre on the University of the Fraser Valley campus in Abbotsford.  Practices are open to the public.

Long Time Executive Director Leaves Basketball BC

Basketball BC President John Buis announced today that Executive Director Michael Hind is leaving the organization to pursue new endeavors.

"Mike’s contributions have supported the growth of our sport," said Buis, "including the development and expansion of the Steve Nash Youth Basketball program across BC and helping make it available across Canada through the agreement with Canada Basketball, facilitating the purchase of a world class portable basketball court, hosting numerous National Championships and international games as well as establishing the virtual Hall of Fame on our website."

Basketball BC wishes to thank Mike Hind, for his dedication and contributions in establishing Basketball BC as one of the largest Provincial Sporting Organizations in British Columbia and the leading resource for basketball in the province over his 18 years with the organization.

Canadian Mens U19's Finish 7th at Worlds!

Kelly OlynykCongratulations to former Basketball BC provincial team members Kelly Olynyk, Ty Nurse and Marc Trasolini who just finished competing at the FIBA U19 Mens Basketball World Championships with the Canadian National Mens Junior Team in New Zealand.  The team reached the quarter finals this past Friday where they lost to the eventual world champions from the USA 93-73.  The next day they lost a tough game to Puerto Rico by 2 points 67-65 but bounced back the next day and beat France 82-74 to finish in 7th place overall.

BC Athletes and Coaches Representing Canada This Summer

Canada BasketballEach summer a number of current and former Basketball BC Provincial Team Athletes are selected to the various rosters of our Canadian National Teams.  This summer there are a total of 8 Men's and Women's National Teams, for each gender there are the following levels: Cadet (U16), Junior (U19), Developmental (FISU) and Senior. Click below for a listing of the 18 BC athletes who have been selected to National Team rosters this year.  Congratulations and good luck this summer!
