ביום שבת ה- 6.6 יצאו תושבים פלסטינים מדרום הר חברון להפגנת מחאה כנגד בניית מאחז חדש שהקימו מתנחלים בשטחים החקלאיים שבבעלות התושבים הפלסטינים. בעלי הקרקע הפלסטינים הציגו מסמכים שטוענים כי הקרקע עליו הוקם המאחז היא בבעלותם. למרות זאת, כוחות צה"ל שהיו במקום הרסו את הסוכה הפלסטינית שנבנתה בסימן מחאה, ולא נגעו במבנים שהציבו המתנחלים.

12:20 מוקדם יותר הבוקר מעל 60 פעילות ופעילים מקואליציית נשים לשלום, קודפינק, קבוצות שלום הפעילות בדרום וכן פעילים עצמאיים, הגיעו למעבר ארז במטרה להעביר ציוד מגרש משחקים לתוך עזה. הצבא הישראלי לקח את הדרכונים לבדיקה והחזירם כעבור שעתיים עם תשובה שלילית. לאות מחאה, בנו הפעילות/ים את מגרש המשחקים בתוך המחסום, עליו פאטצ' אדאמס וצבא הליצנים הישראלי העלו מיצג והזמינו למשחק פוקר פספורטים. בינתיים, הקבוצה ערכה היכרות ושוחחה עם האנשים שהמתינו במחסום בתקווה להיכנס לעזה והקשיבה לסיפורים שלהם.

12:20 - في وقت مبكر من صباح اليوم قام أكثر من 60 ناشطة وناشطًا من "تحالف نساء للسلام" و"كود بينك"، ومنظمات سلام من منطقة الجنوب، وكذلك ناشطون مستقلون، جميعهم وصلوا إلى حاجز إيرز بغرض نقل معدّات وأجهزة ألعاب حديقة إلى غزة. وقد أخذ الجيش الإسرائيلي جوازات سفر الناشطين للفحص، وأعادها بعد ساعتين مع جواب بالرفض. واحتجاجًا على ذلك أقامت الناشطات والناشطون ساحة ألعاب في منطقة الحاجز، قدّم فيها كل من باتش آدمز وجيش المهرجين الإسرائيلي عرضًا فنيًا احتجاجيًا. وقد تعرفت المجموعة على كل من كان في الحاجز ينتظر على أمل دخول غزة، واستمعت إلى حكاياتهم.

The Israeli army shot Yousef Akil Srour, aged 36 years in the chest with 0.22 caliber live ammunition. He was dead upon arrival to Ramallah Hospital.

Yousef Akil Srour is the 5th Palestinian to be killed by the Israeli army in Ni’lin during a demonstration against the theft of his land for the construction of the Annexation Wall.

הצבא הישראלי ירה ביוסף עקאל סרור, בן 36 בחזה עם אש חייה בקוטר 0.22. הוא מת כאשר הגיע לבית החולים ברמאללה.
יוסף סרור הוא הפלסטיני החמישי שנהרג על ידי הצבא הישראלי בנעלין בזמן הפגנה נגד גזילת אדמותיו לצורך הקמת גדר הסיפוח.
כוחות ישראלים ירו במוחמד מוסלאח מוסא, בן 15, בחזה התחתון מיד לאחר שירו בסרור. הוא נלקח לבית החולים ברמאללה.
כוחות הכיבוש הישראלים רצחו חמש מתושבי נעלין בהפגנות נגד גזל אדמותם וגם פצעו קריטית מפגין אחד מפעילי ארגון הסולידריטי הבינלאומי.

Do you know how much money Caterpillar made in 2008 from the sale of its military equipment to Israel and to all other countries outside of the US? About 30 million dollars.

Sounds like a lot? It's not. This is only 0.06% of the company's sales.

And yet this tiny percentage has a huge impact on the lives of the Palestinians who see their homes demolished and their orchards uprooted with CAT bulldozers.

This coming June 10, we will be at the Caterpillar annual shareholder meeting for the sixth time.

The Jerusalem zoning committee approved a plan for a hotel to be built in Wadi al-Joz in an area that holds various stores and a Palestinian kindergarten. The stores and the school will have to be demolished in order for the hotel to be built.

I am getting a report now from Jesse of Ta’ayush who is in Safa. For information on Safa see this post. Ta’ayush was on the ground with Palestinians farmers when 15 to 20 young settlers arrived from the settlement of Bat Ayin. He tells me that the settlers starting throwing rocks at the Ta’ayush activists and the Palestinians. There were at least three IDF soldiers watching this happen from the hilltop road. The settlers got closer and broke the camera of one activist and began to flip the car of Ezra Nawi breaking his windshield. Approximately thirty border police arrived on the scene and declared the zone closed. The settlers were not required to leave the area and five Ta’ayush activists were arrested as they were helping Ezra to flip his car back over. He tells me that more Palestinians are arriving to help Ezra with his car.

יום הנכבה הבינלאומי 2009
סיור ברחבי תל אביב בעקבות הכפרים הפלסטיניים שקדמו לה
ביום שבת 16/5/2009, צויין בת"א יום הנכבה בסיור שארגנה זוכרות ליישובים הפלסטיניים שהיו בשטחה עד הנכבה ב-1948. כ-120 משתתפים/ות סיירו בשני אוטובוסים בעיר, שחוגגת מאה שנה להיווסדה כשכונה של יפו ושכחה לחלוטין את המקומות אליהם התפשטה אחרי שישראל גירשה מהם את הפלסטינים ויישבה במקומם יהודים. מנשיה, אבו כביר, סלמה, ג'מאסין, סומייל, שייח מוונס ואתרים נוספים כבר היו קיימים כשהוגרלו מגרשי "אחוזת בית" ב-1909. זוכרות "החזירה" ישובים אלו למפת העיר שהפיקה והפיצה בסיור.

يوم لأنكبة 2009
في الذكرى ال – 61 لبداية النكبة الفلسطينية، نظـّمت "زوخروت" (ذاكرات) يوم السبت 16/5/2009 زيارة إلى القرى الفلسطينية المهجّرة التي تقوم تل أبيب على أنقاضها. شارك في الجولة حوالي 120 شخصاً، أغلبهم يهود إسرائيليون، وتنقلوا في المدينة بحافلتين تحت شعار "ذاكرات النكبة". في هذه الأيام، تحتفل المدينة التي أقيمت لتكون أحد أحياء يافا، تحتفل بمناسبة مئة عام على تأسيسها. بعد 1948 توسعت تل أبيب على حساب القرى الفلسطينية التي قامت إسرائيل بتهجير أهلها وتوطين يهود مكانهم. المنشية، أبو كبير، سلمة، الجمّاسين، صُمّيل، الشيخ مونـّس وغيرها من القرى كانت موجودة عندما أجريت القرعة بين السكان اليهود عام 1909 للحصول على قطعة أرض في أول حيّ في تل أبيب، "أحوزة بيت". القرى الفلسطينية لم تذكر إطلاقاً في احتفالات المدينة. "زوخروت" أعادت هذه القرى إلى خريطة تل أبيب التي أصدرتها مؤخراً ووزعتها خلال الجولة.

A tour aroud Tel Aviv, following the Palestinian villages
Last Saturday, May 16 2009, Nakba Day was commemorated at Tel Aviv in a tour organized by Zochrot to destroyed Palestinian villages around Tel-Aviv. While celebrating 100 years to its foundation as a Jaffa neighborhood, Tel Aviv forgets the Palestinian localities that existed before the establishment of "Ahuzat Bait" and until the Nakba. The Palestinian localities of Manshiyyah, Abu Kabir, Salame, Jamasin al Gharbi, Sumayl, Shaykh Muwanis and other places were evacuated and repopulated by Jews. Zochrot returned these localities to a new Tel Aviv map that was distributed at the tour.

Residents of Bil’in marched today after the Friday prayer in a protest joined by international and Israelis activists. Protesters carried Palestinian flags and posters of the martyr, Bassem Abu Rahmah, and also banners commemorating 61 years of the Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe). A 5 meter long key was carried as a symbol to the right of return which a lot o Palestinians still have keys of their original homes and land ownership documents.

خرج أهالي قرية بلعين بعد صلاة الجمعة اليوم في مسيرة شعبية حاشدة شارك فيها مجموعة من المتضامنين الدوليين والإسرائيليين، وقد رفعوا فيه الأعلام الفلسطينية ودروعا حديدية لحمايتهم من رصاص العدو وقنابله وضعت عليها صور الشهيد باسم أبو رحمة، ورفعوا أيضا اليافطات التي تحيي الذكرى الحادية والستين لنكبة الشعب الفلسطيني، وقد رفعوا مفتاحا بطول خمسة أمتار كُتب عليه الرقم ( 61) دلالة على عدد سنوات النكبة، وتأكيدا على حق العودة للاجئين، والذين ما زالوا يحتفظون بمفاتيح بيوتهم وأوراق الطابو التي تثبت ملكيتهم لتلك البيوت.

חוזר מנכ"ל משרד הבריאות מדצמבר 1993 קובע כי נפגעות אלימות במשפחה, יהיו זכאיות לשירותים רפואיים עבור בעיות רפואיות שהן תוצאה ישירה של מקרה האלימות, ועבור בדיקות לביסוס ראיות משפטיות בלבד. נוהל זה יוצר מצב עגום , בו נשים חסרות מעמד נקלטות ושוהות במשך חודשים ארוכים במקלטים המפוקחים וממומנים על המדינה, אך אינן זכאיות לקבלת שירותי בריאות עבור בעיות רפואיות שבשגרה אלא רק בעבור בעיות הקשורות באופן ישיר לאלימות אותה חוו. הניסיון להפריד בין מצב רפואי שהוא תוצאה של אלימות, לבין מצב רפואי שאיננו כזה הינו לעתים רבות מלאכותי ובלתי אפשרי ולכן נדון לכישלון.

Data provided by the Ministry of Welfare and Social Services, shows that during the 2006, 34 status-less women resided in shelters for victims of domestic violence, 24 of whom arrived at the shelter with their children. During 2007 33 women stayed in shelters, 25 of whom came to the shelter with children. The State of Israel recognizes the right of these women to protection and provides them with shelter, but does not allow them to receive medical care while they are in the shelters.

הקפאת שכר שכזאת משולה לפגיעה במעמד הבינוני והנמוך בישראל, שעמו נמנים רוב עובדי המגזר הציבורי. מעמדות אלה הם גם הנפגעים העיקריים מן הקיצוצים הרבים שהוכרזו ביום 6.5.2009.

Over 100 Palestinian demonstrators were joined by some 15 internationals and 25 Israelis for the weekly demo in Um Salmona / Ma'asara. The army set several roadblocks to prevent access to the area, but eventually almost all Israeli cars got through. The army set up its jeeps farther into the village than in the past, and separated the Israeli demonstrators from the Palestinians who came from the other side. Some Israelis managed to flank the army and join the main demo, but most of us remained on the other side and chanted slogans.

מעל 100 פלסטינים הפגינו יחד עם כ 15 בינלאומיים ו 25 ישראליות בהפגנה השבועית באום סלמונה / מעסרה. הצבא הקים מספר מחסומים כדי למנוע גישה לאיזור, אבל בסופו של דבר כמעט כל המכוניות הישראליות הצליחו להכנס. הצבא הציב את הג'יפים שלו עמוק בתוך הכפר, והפריד בין המפגינים הישראלים לבין הפלסטינים שהגיעו מהצד השני. כמה ישראלים הצליחו לאגף את החיילים ולהצטרף להפגנה העיקרית, אבל רובנו נשארנו בצד השני וקראנו סיסמאות.

Without international intervention Israeli human rights activist Ezra Nawi will most likely be sent to jail.

Ezra Nawi has been active for years in the area known as South Mt. Hebron. The Palestinians in this small desolate area in the very south of the West Bank have been under Israeli occupation for almost 42 years; they still live without electricity, running water and other basic services, and are continuously harassed by the Jewish settlers who constantly violate both Israeli and International law, and are backed by a variety of Israeli military occupation forces, all of which operate in an effort to cleanse the area from its Palestinian inhabitants and create a new demographic reality in it.

In this series of personal testimonies, PCHR looks at the aftermath of Israel’s 23 day offensive on the Gaza Strip, and the ongoing impact it is having on the civilian population.

Mahmoud before and after the attack that claimed his sight

Mahmoud Mattar spent his 15th birthday in February this year, lying in the intensive care unit of Egypt’s Sheikh Zayid hospital. He is one of the 1,606 children who were injured during Israel’s military offensive on Gaza, some of who sustained horrific disabilities, head and spinal injuries, facial disfigurement, burns and amputation.
