[edit] Aktivix offers Email and Mailing Lists
AktiviX provides email boxes and Mailman Mailing lists for individuals and groups broadly aligned with "Who/what is AktiviX?".
Email addresses are username(at)aktivix.org, mailing lists are listname(at)lists.aktivix.org
[edit] Requesting Email and Mailing Lists
Send email clearly stating the name of the mailbox or list required to aktivix-request@lists.aktivix.org. Not all names are possible, so be prepared to change.
Service requests are provided on a "Friend of a friend" basis. If you don't know anybody here join the mailing lists and irc channels and introduce yourself. See Main_Page#Aktivix_Community for more info
Email boxes and List admins are required to join an announce only list. This enables the workers to provide advance notice of service changes.
(TODO add a T&C paragraph that says something like .. " the aktivix community reserves the right to remove or otherwise alter the service provided to any member who acts in a way that is (or likely to ?) damage the the quality or level of service provided to the community as a whole. For example .. Sending unsolicited commercial email, using excessive amounts of disk, CPU, or bandwidth resources, behaving in ways that are unacceptable to the aktivix community..")
[edit] Editing List Archives
see http://springnight.burngreave.net/pipermail/list-admins/2005-February/000009.html
send exact details of the post you would like editing and the text you would like it replacing with.
[edit] How quick is Aktivix to sort my account or list?
The aktivix services are provided by volunteers, so it is impossible to provide any guarantees around timescale of implementation or service levels. But, hey we are a friend of your friend, so we will do our best! :)
[edit] Aktivix Community
The Aktivix community is a loose network - people come and go. Aktivix is connected through networks of trust with many other groups, collectives and organisations. Anyone who is interested in taking non-hierarchical, consensus oriented social and cultural action to reclaim technology are welcome. Aktivix do not welcome sexist or racist ideas. Aktivix also rejects the violence of capitalism.
For more info see AktiviX and also AktiviX:About.
[edit] Technical Infrastructure
The AktiviX discussion list, AktiviX-discuss is where lots of stuff is sorted out. Some people hang out on the #aktivix irc channel on irc.indymedia.org, there is a brief history of how we got here on the AktiviX:History page... And then there is of course this Wiki.
[edit] Information for Aktivix Admins
Information on administrative tasks is held on this page Aktivix:AdminProcedures
[edit] Face-2-Face Gatherings
The last Aktivix gathering was AktiviX:AktiviX_II in Sheffield, September 2004. There was a loose proposal for AktiviX:AktiviX_III to be held in connection with a hacklab in Lancaster in February, 2006 organised by a by a local group. In the end the HackLab went ahead without Aktivix branding, but many aktivixi people were there.
There has been talk of InfoSeed in Edinburgh hosting an Aktivix event but there are no plans yet.
Below there is info from previous gatherings....

[edit] Services
Initially the plan is to offer list hosting and personal @aktivix.org email addresses. In the future other services could be added, DNS, IRC, web hosting etc... The ambition is to start some sort of commmunity server project. It could take many forms so give your input and help create it on AktiviX:CommunityServer
[edit] Mediawikis
This is the activix mediawiki site. There is a discussion about licensing models for the Wiki on AktiviX:Copyrights. See MediaWiki Install for notes on how this wiki has been set up.
aktivix is not currently able to offer hosting of mediawiki sites for other groups as well, but hopes to in the future: see the MediaWiki Hosting page.
[edit] Lists
Email lists for activists are be available from lists.aktivix.org
Application using the Friend of a Friend protocol. Request a list by mailing the aktivix-request@aktivix.org list and if you get a seconder and if there is no dissent it'll be created.
The AktiviX:AUP (acceptable use policy) still needs sorting out... and a list application form will be needed. This can all be documented on a AktiviX:Lists page...
[edit] Email
yourname @ aktivix.org email accounts are available, as with the lists, ask on the request list aktivix-request@aktivix.org or on the irc channel. See the AktiviX:AUP, AktiviX:Email and AktiviX:Help:Mail for more info...
[edit] IRC
There is now an #aktivix irc channel on the irc.indymedia.org server. For more on howto irc try the IRCHowTo or join using the web interface.
[edit] Bookmarks
Aktivix provides an online bookmarking service at links.aktivix.org. This is based upon the Rubric bookmarking engine.
[edit] Encryption matters
This site is available via https and it uses a CACert certificate, please install the CACert root certificate if you haven't done so already.
[edit] Help
Some AktiviX:Help needs sorting out...
Please see documentation on customizing the interface and the User's Guide for usage and configuration help.
[edit] AktiviX
We should probably start a AktiviX:TODO list... and then write something AktiviX:About what the point of this site is and perhaps answer some AktiviX:FAQs...
